Got my homer hankies in the mail today.  Good luck charm?

well, technically yesterday.

Depends. Have you bought them the past years that have included their 18 game playoff losing streak? ? #GPL JINX

Pretty good season for Pagan after that disastrous outing in April.

They still lack pitching by a wide margin.

On paper this is the best, deepest starting rotation they've had in my entire life. The worst ERA of their projected SP from last season is 4.40. With Maeda, Winder, SWR, and Paddack (probably out until midseason) all quality options for injury replacements.

Come on...you can't honestly believe that.

The Twins finish the season top 10 in runs scored (top 5 in the American League) and top 3 in runs given up (first in the AL).

Does anyone know if we will have Lewis healthy enough to play in the wild card?

How will this translate to playoffs where there are no other AL Central teams?  I am just a casual Twins fan during the long regular season.  They seem to be really coming along....while playing in a weak division.  When the playoffs start it seems to be a very different game where the big arms can be difference makers.

Do the Twins have the pitching staff to win in the playoffs?

iirc they've had a competitive record vs non-ALC teams but are vulnerable. No idea how they did vs TOR during the regular season.

3-3. Each team won a series 2-1 while in the other’s park.

With the high variance and craziness of baseball, I still cannot wrap my head around going 0-18 in the playoffs. Let’s hope Pablo Lopez and Sonny Gray deliver the goods. I have a good feeling about it.

While they obviously play in a weak division, they only went 29-23 in AL central division games. They were 20-12 against the AL West and 13-19 vs AL East (1-5 vs Tampa Bay, 2-4 vs Baltimore, 3-3 vs Toronto). The Tampa games obviously stand out as ugly but IIRC those games were usually close - they did blow us out once.

Yes they're in the playoffs, moving parts, blah, blah, this is still an amazing fact:

Luis Arráez is the third former Twin to win the National League batting title in the past 11 years.

Both teams are going with 12 pitchers and 14 position players.

I suspect the Blue Jays will bring in a left handed pitcher to face Kepler and Kirilloff at some point at which point Solano, Farmer, and/or Castro could have key at bat(s). I am a little surprised Luplow didn't make the wild card roster but if he made it then OF Stevenson or a pitcher would have had to be left off. Stevenson could be a key pitch runner.

Carlos with an amazing play to save a run.

Polanco is struggling at 3rd today.

That is a sweet play by Correa. He doesn't have time to set his feet/make a full body throw yet throws a bullet home. His arm strength is unreal. That was an all arm throw.

Yeah playing Polanco at 3B (rather than Lewis), Julien at 2B (rather than Polanco), Lewis at DH (rather than Julien) weakens the defense at both 2B and 3B. Hopefully Lewis can play in the field if we advance in the playoffs.

Thats not an "official" AB, right? So, Lewis has still homered in every post season AB he has had?

Lewis walked on 5 pitches (the only strike was on 3 and 0) his third time up. The Blue Jays are learning. ?

@fightclub30 correct, walks don't count as at bats hence the reason the term plate appearance gets used.

The incredible shrinking (and inconsistent) strike zone leads to a blue jay run.

TBF, this umpire has been mostly exceptional behind the plate today.

The big managerial question is looming for Rocco now. Thielbar got you through 9-1-2 in the lineup so you have a fresh inning to go against Vlad, Bichette, and Biggio.

Do you bring in your best RP (presumably Duran) in the 8th inning to face their best hitters and hope he can give you 2 innings today and the team can get a big enough lead tomorrow that he becomes obsolete in game 2? Or use him for the 8th and then play matchups in the 9th with Jax/Pagan/Stewart/Funderburke? Or use Jax in the 8th against their best guys and hope he can give you a clean inning?

I go Jax because he's been so good against righties with that slider/sweeper. But he still makes me nervous.

He for sure is an 'edge of the seater' but that was a wicked good inning!

Jax/Jeffers opt to throw a first pitch fastball (for some reason I will never understand) and Vlad smokes it into right center for a double.

Then Jax and Jeffers remember "Hey this slider is absolutely ridiculous, maybe we should throw that" and throw it 6 times in a row for back to back Ks.

Gives up a good knock to Guerrero Jr, but looked daaaamn good against 4, 5, & 6!

That's been a SOP for a couple seasons, if I recall correctly.

Correct, since they announced they are cracking down on foreign substances increasing spin rate. Unless you are a Yankees pitcher in Yankee Stadium, of course.

Duran in for the 9th.

Hopefully he's not too amped up. Trust your stuff. They can't touch it. You don't have to overthrow to get outs.

A 2 out walk to Whit Merrifield rolls the lineup over for George Springer.

Here we go.
