The decision to sit back and not press is as responsible for this game being tied as the penalty. The US was dominating and a 2nd goal was likely to happen had they stayed aggressive.

Yes, 100%. They should have had more than one goal in the first half and let Wales carry the play in the second half. Really a missed opportunity for a "W" in the opener.

USA needs to beat Iran to advance. Tie or loss and they are done.
The math is really simple now. Win or go home.
The third and final group match for the US is on Tuesday against Iran. With a win the US advances to the round of 16 with a draw or loss we are eliminated.
Thru 2 group matches for everybody.
England has 4 points
Iran has 3 points
USA has 2 points
Wales has 1 point
Pretty much if the US can’t beat Iran, they don’t deserve to be in the round of 16

Tyler Adams has played really well so far. Great decision to name him captain too.
Brits are pissed, Twitter showed a bar with beers being tossed and crowd getting crazy in London. The header penalty shot England missed was a gift.
I am trying really hard to watch soccer but there I wish the announcers would explain the game more for people.
I don't understand why a penalty shot was awarded to Portugal when the Ghana player contacted the ball first.

Do not try to understand the calls... You will just go crazy because the FIFA reffing is flat out awful.
I just enjoy the world competition part of it. And definitely the Team USA / we're all in this together thing!

Theres also some rules in soccer that defy common sense.

Usually when people talk about being willing to go to the net and take a hit/risking your body to score they are talking about hockey but it applies to this goal.
Round of 16 match is against the Netherlands.
One could say the USA is going Dutch for their Saturday breakfast (9 am start time) but hopefully the US makes the Dutch pay. ?

And Iran was working the refs right from the drop, complaining about everything while I only saw the US do it once (probably legitimately) and our goalie also exchanged a laugh with the ref at one point. They should be embarrassed that it was obvious that they thought their only chance was to game the system, especially when their coach threw a fit when Klinsman suggested in a tweet before the game that was exactly what they were gonna do.

Klinsman was very critical when he started to coach the Us that the players didn’t play for fouls enough. Whether it’s by design or not, I do appreciate the US team not flopping all over the place.
