@orion STA-Cretin is streaming on St Thomas channel for free tonight. Lakeville South-Lakeville North, I saw was on one of their channels tomorrow night. I’ll be paying $10 to watch Edina-Wayzata. Should be well worth it.

Edina-Wayzata game, they’ll also have Minnetonka-Chan tomorrow night
@goldy77 Thanks, I agree on the Wayzata Edina game. I'll buy that as well but the only thing better is free hockey!
Gentry up 4-1 on White Bear after 2.
Cretin up 3-0 on STA after first period
Gentry advances to 4AA title game after beating WBL.
Looks like Northfield is going to state as they're up 6-0 on New Prague in the 3rd.
Other games are all close so far
CDH defeats STA 4-2 in the 3AA final
Hermantown back to state...
Live stream of Little Falls and St. Cloud Cathedral who are about to start OT with a trip to state on the line
Shots are 50 to 25 after the first OT. The Little Falls goalie is coming up big.

If you thought 3M Arena at Mariucci was a clunky name, this game is being played at the "Furniture and Things Community Event Center"
And each rink in that building has its own name. Nice arena, but terrible naming.
Edina beats Wayzata 2-1. Both teams deserve to go to state. Edina scored early, kind of hung on, scored and ENG, Wayzata scored with 30 seconds left to make it 2-1. Edina hung on to survive.
Probably will be a 2 seed, especially if Tonka wins. If Chan wins, could go either way. Both would have arguments for the 1. Don’t know if it really matters.
Cathedral advances on a 2OT PP goal immediately following what *may* have been a missed offside call.
@chris83 ?? I’ll be in seclusion in the west wing.

His point is there is always going to be somebody who is the best in Class A.
There is no Class A team waiting in the wings to dominate the way Hermantown has the past decade. And while STA hasn't won a title since moving to AA, the handful of friends I have that went there would be unhappy if they went back to A.

Does that team always have to move up to AA?
The best team is likely to have certain advantages that are helping them.
Before Hermantown it was St. Thomas Academy that people where pissed at. Which is kind of ironic since at the time people were rooting for Hermantown to beat St. Thomas Academy in the State Tournament because people were tired of STA.
At some point there will be a new best team in Class A and people will get mad at that team. The cycle tends to repeat itself.
BTW, how has moving to AA worked out for St. Thomas Academy? A strong case can be made that it hasn't worked out that well for them.
Yes I realize St. Thomas Academy is in the section 3 champion game so they might make it to state this year but this is their 10 season in AA and they've yet to make it.
Sports by their nature always have things that people can legitimately be upset about and I get why people are mad at Hermantown but in the end they are doing what they think is best. This same argument happens every year right around state tournament time we can use it to set our watches. Oh wait nobody owns watches anymore. ?
2021 Lost in round 1
2020 Lost in the 3rd Place Game
2019 Lost in the 3rd place game to Blaine
2018 they won the Consolation Champion
2017 they won the Consolation Champion
2015 they won the Consolation Champion
@bert Thanks. I was going to post the same thing. Seems like making state 6 out of those 10 years has worked out pretty well for them.
6A is Alexandria vs. Fergus Falls
Thanks… must’ve had a mental error after seeing Little Falls lost in OT to SCCS in 5A.

I would disagree. STA has been very competitive in AA.
Contrast that to Dodge County, New Prague, Northfield, Spring Lake Park and others who were forced to move up because of enrollment. I know that New Prague was 0-4 in sections being pushed to AA. That St. Thomas Academy is a fixture in the section final is a pretty successful run. Maybe not what they were used to at Class A, but they aren't getting annihilated.
Still think moving the A tourney to Mariucci would easily fix this problem. You offer a great experience to Class A folks and a world-class, premier experience to the AA. Hair-man-town and STA wouldn't settle for A when the opportunity to play at the X is reasonably achievable.
Agree… the only issue I see with that is tv coverage and enough of a crew.

Agreed. St. Thomas is where they should be. Adding CDH to that section was good because it needed to be more competitive as St. Thomas made the tourney a few years where they weren’t the most talented team in 3AA, but like everything else it has ebbs and flows. I would say making the state tournament 6/10 years is pretty darn good and most programs would kill for that consistency. Plus they’ve won a few Thursday games which puts them above WBL ?

AA should be a battle.
@chill-kessel 3AA isn’t much stronger. If your going to move a team it should be out of 6AA.

I was thinking geography.
(and you're*; must be that STA education)
I may be mistaken, but I do believe Northfield is getting bumped up to AA, or at least will be in the near future. While not some juggernaut, they're only growing & going to get better. I guess the same thought was applied to Farmington though too & not much has transpired out of that other than 2016.
Geography wise, I don't know much that can be done about 1AA. Maybe Lourdes can become a hockey factory? Maybe Dodge can grow enough to become a Hermantown destination to send kids to? But unless the system gets blown up, which it doesn't seem there is much appetite to do, the Lakeville's (particularly South) are going to be fixtures in St. Paul every March.

I saw the initial numbers from the MSHSL yesterday. Northfield will stay in Class A for hockey next year.
Lourdes is pulling form the same talent pool and Rochesters Century, Mayo, and John Marshall. They have ONE youth program feeding four high schools. Split your Bantam AA into four groups and you end up with Lakeville North vs Lakeville South in the Finals each year.I may be mistaken, but I do believe Northfield is getting bumped up to AA, or at least will be in the near future. Even before the Hill/Gentry section final. I see AA pretty much sit up.
1) Minnetonka
2) Edina
3) Maple Grove
4) Andover
5) Cretin-Derham Hall
*) Lakeville South
*) Moorhead
*) Hill Murray / Gentry winner

STA is a perfect fit for 1AA. It would make 3AA more weaker, though it would make 1AA more of a challenge for the two Lakeville schools. It's just some sections are deep in talent with 3-4 solid squads and some some have 1 or 2.
Keep your stick on the ice...
And prior to 2014 when Lakeville North was runner-ups followed by going undefeated and winning State in 2015. Sec. 1AA was the laughing stock of the Tourney for many years. The section champion probably couldn't make the section championship in the 7 other sections and maybe even not the semi's in most.

Good with this, except I'd swap Lakeville South & Cretin. South has the better record & beat Cretin head-to-head. Although South hasn't really played anyone too difficult for the past month.
If Hill Murray wins, 7 of the 8 teams from last year will be back, with Tonka being the newcomer.

Does this cause @yougeagle to get moved down to Class A in the GPL spelling and grammar tournament? ?
Thankfully I don't have this same problem since I am the mostest goodest at speling and gramer. ?
