Well well well Slap Shot.....here we are again. Another Edina-Minnetonka game in March! Finally get to see the game again we missed out on in 2018.
I do have to say though, I don't think this is really that great of an Edina team. Tonka is flat out better, but anything can happen in one game. But I'm expecting Tonka to come out on top, 3-1, 4-1 with an empty netter possibly. Still, just another feather in the cap of Lake Conference domination that has been around the past 13-14 years.
Think about it since 2009: EP wins in 2009, Edina beats Tonka in 2010, EP wins again in 2011, Edina wins in 2013 & 2014, Wayzata beats EP in 2016, Tonka wins in 2018, Edina beats EP in 2019, EP wins in 2021. And now either Edina or Minnetonka defeat the other in 2023. That is some SEC football stuff right there.
I think you underrate your Hornets. They started 0-3 without Clark but since then have gone 22-3, play very well both ways, only lost by 1 to Tonka a few weeks ago, and are playing as good as any team in the state. Plus iirc Tonka has never beat Edina in either a section or state final so they need to get that monkey off their back. Crossing my fingers. ?
That was a very fun "Semi-final Friday" of hockey. "A" games were much more of the nail biter type, but overall it was a tremendously enjoyable day. Picks for today are Mahtomedi and Edina.
Feels like this has happened in every game all tourney. Warroad takes a lead late in the first and Maht responds shortly after to tie it.

He does a REALLY nice job on the play-by-play. Also works smoothly with whoever is doing color, be it Clymer, Parrish or Louie.Also Jim Erickson is so much better than LaPanta it's a joke.

eh i don't know if i agree. but hey kudos to maht for using it as fuel and really coming at them. all the momentum now and warroad looks gassed
Is this gonna be another one of those "Full intermission/resurfacing and then it ends in less than a minute" deals? Kids on both squads look bushed. The "AA" final has a tall order this evening to try and match this one. Remarkable effort from both sides. "A shame one side has to lose" can seem cliched, but not in this case. Amazing.

Anyway Edina isn't giving Tonka any room to move. They are playing a very good game forcing just about every possession to the outside. I don't see this ending as anything but a nail-biter.

In the closest thing you can have in hockey to Iowa vs. Sconnie...Edina hits the pipe with 30 seconds left and it rides the line but Tonka wins a game they were mostly outplayed in.

The whole tournament was great entertainment.
That was one heck of a game. Edina threw everything they could at Tonka and like a lot of tight games this one came down to one spectacular play (this time by Schultz) creating the separation goal. Liked seeing the hugs in the handshake line - a lot of these kids have known each other for many years and I'm sure there's a lot of respect between them.
Ok now onto to the Gophers!

I probably say this every year, but that was an excellent tournament all the way around. Lots of individual talent, but it felt wide open like nearly any team could win in both classes. Some incredible individual performances. High school hockey remains alive and well.
