We’re supposed to be beating the crap out of these guys, right?
The line was -19 IIRC but I would have bet a lot on an EMU cover. They're not a bad team and Fleck rarely runs the score up against teams like this.
Anybody who paid attention last week knew this week was going to be a heavy focus on establishing the run.
That said, 10 points on 3 trips inside the 5 yard line hurts the offensive production numbers.
Another drive inside the 5 yard line ends in a FG. 13 points on 4 drives inside the 5. PJ won't be thrilled.
DT is rolling now, only field gremlins can seemingly stop him.

I’ll never understand having the time to look at it and getting it dead wrong anyway.
That was definitely a safety.
Nice interception!
BSF got knocked in the side of the helmet by an EMU linebacker's helmet on the INT Athan threw (entirely on BSF, hit him right in the middle of his body). Refs didn't even bother to look at potential targeting.
Darius Taylor. That's the post
Good win in the works.
0 second half first downs against the Gopher defense. Pretty good.
Darius Taylor!! That kid is a major talent
Here's everything #Gophers coach PJ Fleck had to say following Minnesota's non-conference win over Eastern Michigan. "I love how we're getting to the point of when we win, we win by 19, and some of us will say didn't win by enough. And I love that."
When you tell somebody somethin', it depends on what part of the United States you're standin' in... as to just how dumb you are.
Much improved 2nd half. Defense had allowed 148 yards through 2, so that 2nd half performance was elite+. Impressive shutdown D in the 2nd.
The offense played well for what they were allowed to do. Stubborn PJ surfaced, especially with goal to go. That hurt us on the scoreboard but likely doesn’t matter season wise.

I said this to a couple buddies last night but it felt like PJ was very confident the defense wouldn't give up more than 1 TD so he wanted the OCs to continue to work on the ground game inside the redzone in live game scenarios when the other team knows what is coming. I mean multiple times last night EMU was lining up 5 defensive linemen inside the 10 yardline just daring the Gophers to throw and I think in a game where the Gophers didn't have a clear edge if a team was lining up that way the Gophers would have changed into a pass a few times.
I can see that angle, but I also think with a big game coming up against a stiffer opponent stretching your passing game legs in red zone situations would have been just as beneficial. If you can't run it in and have to go with the pass do they truly know what they've got?
I like these including the helmet and no I won't get off your lawn!

I dig them!
Can my lawn chair stay in its prime spot?

Not a huge fan of the shiny helmet thing in general, but overall, a great look.
Got space for another lawn chair there?
B1G refs... corrupt, or just incompetent?

They are awesome.
I like these more than I hate the black helmets. The Mason era (or was it Gutekunst?) gold helmets were awful. But I like these shiny ones.
UNC gets away with two pretty obvious holds on 3rd downs, one on the long TD on the first drive.
Gonna be a frustrating game if the officials allow that to go on all day with a QB as good as Drake Maye is.
Gophers get to the UNC 25, Athan gets pressure and throws a ball behind BSF who tips it right into the hands of a UNC linebacker.
This could get ugly.
Gophers try to sub in a bunch of players on 3rd down, UNC rushes back to the line and snaps the ball before Gophers get set and hit a WR that was left totally uncovered for 55 yards down to the 1. 14-0 UNC

Was Coach TO tying his shoes or something?
A holding call!
That’s a call in the NFL that the official just says it was holding. College ref says pass interference.
Everyone in blue is wide open.

Yup. If it was called holding, which it should have been because it was before the ball was thrown, its a Gopher first down. Instead they call it PI and because the pass then bounced off a UNC helmet they can pick the flag up on a deflected pass.
Why rush to score the TD. Take 10 seconds more off the clock. Give UNC no chance at a FG before half. Now they have 30 seconds at a chance.
21-10 at half and Gophers get it back after halftime.
Kesich makes a FG to cut it to 21-13 with 11 minutes remaining in the 3rd quarter
Darius Taylor is just so fun to watch.
16 for 109 and a TD through 2.5 quarters today.
Uh oh. Athan comes up limping after a first down run and a deep throw that ended up short. Looked like his leg was bothering him which may be why he left the deep pass a couple yards short.
Kramer in.
Gophers convert a 4th and 1 and then Kramer throws a lollipop to the endzone for an INT.
Cut Kramer
Laughable throw by Kramer
I'll cut him some slack because he did get popped pretty good right after he threw it but throwing into double coverage from the 35 yardline is ill advised, pressure or not.
Nate McCollum for UNC has 14 catches already.
Athan back in as Gophers trail 24-13
Feel like they needed to go for it there on 4th and long... with the new clock rules there is a decent chance they only get one more possession.
Edit: nevermind. Read the clock wrong. Thought it was 11 minutes left
Between shoving a guy out of bounds on a punt that was well OB... and then wasting a TON of time on 4th down. That was an awful sequence. Feel like that was probably the ball game there
I have no idea what this team is trying to accomplish offensively

The QB is awful. There’s not much else to do. You can only run so many naked boots to his right before the other team stops biting.
We're just not that good. Will be very lucky to go better than .500 in Big ten play with our schedule.
NC with another TD so it's 31-13 with 5:00 left, that should do it.
Le sigh.

Yeah, could be a tough one. That was a pretty impressive "thunk" today. We're just not that good. Will be very lucky to go better than .500 in Big ten play with our schedule.
That was the strangest game I've seen in the PJ Fleck era...
Puts in the backup QB and let's him throw a bomb? (Easy int)
Wasted tons of time. Zero aggression or sense of urgency. Seemed okay sitting back and letting UNC take the game rather than trying to push back.
