The new Expansion Draft rules is BS. It started with Vegas, followed by Seattle and now in the PWHL. What happened to the growing pains of entering a league. Growing pains like most every other team had to go through. San Jose, Ottawa, Tampa Bay, Florida, Anaheim, Nashville, Atlanta, Columbus and Minnesota, all had to have their growing pains since the league went from 21 to 30 since 1991.
It’s like these leagues want to make the recent expansion teams immediately competitive at the expense of the others and their building of teams.
I know for sure that there was an NHL expansion draft in 1991 with San Jose.
When you tell somebody somethin', it depends on what part of the United States you're standin' in... as to just how dumb you are.
Britta Curl is the next protected player by the Frost
Has this been confirmed? If so, it is a dumb move. I highly doubt anyone would touch her.
Edit: I see multiple sources repeating it now. Alright then, I would have thought Zumwinkle or Pannek if they were going with another forward

That expansion draft had to do with the North Stars. San Jose got to draft a pool a players from Minnesota. And then San Jose and Minnesota had an expansion draft. Though the number of players got to protect from San Jose. And the number of players each team got to protect from San Jose and Minnesota is nothing to what both Vegas and Seattle got to choose from.
The NHL catered to Vegas and teams learned to be bettered prepared for Seattle. This is why I don’t listen to Vegas fans. They are clueless to how their expansion draft was handled.
I can see the points that @frozen4champs made and I see their point. Make sense for the PWHL. Though the NHL is a joke in how they handled Vegas and Seattle.

Huh.

I understand wanting the new teams to be competitive but this feels like they let the pendulum swing just a bit too far.
btw iirc I don't think SEA had it quite as good as LV did in the NHL but I could be wrong on that.
For the PWHL, I have a much easier time accepting this than I did for Seattle and especially Las Vegas. It's a new league, trying to get from 6 up to 8 teams after only a couple years. You can't leave the two new teams out in the cold. If we were having this conversation in 2035 after the league had been running for over a decade, my feelings would be different.
B1G refs... corrupt, or just incompetent?

Seattle had the same rules as Las Vegas. And teams could protect the same amount of players in each expansion draft. Personally, I think teams were better prepared for Seattle draft compared to Las Vegas.

I agree with needing the new teams to be competitive, but this is a bit much in my opinion. With the signings that have already happened and the players still exposed, Vancouver and Seattle will be stacked.
Zumwinkle is gone, bank on it. Still don’t get why she wasn’t protected with the first three, let alone the fourth they were given.
The PWHL expansion draft is tonight. The Frost lost these 2 players tonight in addition to Thompson and Jaques.

Hopefully no one took my “bank on it” advice about Zumwinkle. 😂
I’m shocked she wasn’t taken, contract terms didn’t seem to matter to the expansion teams, especially Vancouver.
I still think they went too far in trying to force parity with this. Five of last year’s top six picks are now on two teams. Seems silly.
I have a feeling that a lot of this expansion was hashed out behind closed doors before anything public happened.Hopefully no one took my “bank on it” advice about Zumwinkle. 😂

Since all teams are owed by the league I assume the league is okay with how it progressed. If a balance issue is created I assume the league will step in and make adjustments. They want parity and so far that seems to be happening.
I want the Frost to win every year but that isn't good for the league.

I'm a Sirens fan, attended their second-ever game in person, but I don't see how they're getting out of the basement even with the #1 pick in the draft this year.

Boston should be worse, but they play the games for a reason.

There is zero chance they will adjust back if the 2 new teams are heavily imbalanced.
I didnt say adjust meaning get rid of those teams. What i meant was they will make adjustments to the league a rules to create a competitive league. If the 2 new teams completely dominate for years then people will stop attending from other cities. Seattle and Vancouver can't carry the entire league.Since all teams are owed by the league I assume the league is okay with how it progressed. For example, what if the last place team got 2 first round picks in the draft? What if the cup winner didn't get a first round pick? What if the teams somehow made an unbalanced trade?
I am just suggesting that we wait and see the final result before panicking.

I didn't say you did. But the league will not "re-adjust" after this except perhaps how they handle future expansion.
Frost lose free agent Schepers to Boston. Team will look very different this year.
