Not saying you can only build a winning roster by having more MN kids than they currently have (10 this season), but they had 15, 12, 16 and 18 MN kids respectively on their 4 championship teams.
Well then you'll love that the two 2027 recruits who stuck around after the coaching change were from the Metro and the players who decommitted were from Ohio, Massachusetts, and Prince Edward Island. (Hansen's a great player. Glad she stuck around.)
I firmly believe the program's decline predates the shift in recruiting strategy. The 2020-21 team that missed the tournament entirely had 17 in-staters + Boreen and the out-of-staters were all from Frost/Johnson's patented locations (BC and Chicago). In recent years, many of the local recruits who make it to campus don't stick. I fight back against the notion of the not-really-all-that-significantly declining number of Minnesotans as being a key problem.
I essentially said there can be more than one to skin a cat, and of course having x # of local kids guarantees nothing, but the fact is all of their NC teams had more local kids than more recent rosters have had. As of right now you can't convince that continuously losing local recruiting battles isn't a negative

Right-shot defender Callie McCullough of BK Selects is the third Gopher commit for the 2028 class. She is from Westport, Connecticut, two towns over from Sydney Morrow.
I’ve seen Ms. McCullough listed at 5’6” (Neutral Zone lists her at 5’8”). She seems to have the reputation as a mobile, puck moving defender.
Looks like Centennial forward Mia Sutch is the 4th member of the class of ‘28. To my mind the highest ceiling of the in-state prospects in this class. Nice size (5’10”) and a nice skill set.
That's pretty early to already have four recruits committed.
Be interesting the next few years on recruiting. Still baffles me that MN hockey (Tier 1, HP) allow two families to basically run the entire show when it comes to the Elite League. The politics they allow in both HP/Tier1 and the High school league behind the scenes is ridiculous. Wait till you see the transfers and where they are going this next year.
The “USA Hockey” national girls 16/17 camp starts tomorrow in Oxford, Ohio. You can follow game results HERE.
The Girls National 16/17 Camp, driven by AAA, will feature 170 players in the 2009 and 2010 birth years. At the Girls National 16/17 Camp, USA Hockey provides a competitive and challenging learning environment for participating players with on-ice training (drills, small area games, competitions, etc.) and off-ice training (strength & conditioning, team building, mental skills, nutrition, classroom, etc.). In addition to USA Hockey’s priority of focusing on player development, this camp is an evaluation-based camp to determine which players will advance in the remaining available spots for the USA Hockey Under-18 National Festival in Lake Placid, N.Y. The final roster for the Under-18 National Festival will have approximately 46 players.

The big question is will anyone from this camp emerge and be given a shot at the Select 18 level to compete for a spot on the National U18 team in January.

Former commit winds up at Wisconsin
-I hope "they should have kept Frost" doesn't become a recurring Kennedy talking point throughout the season. It's not a point anyone was making in March.
-I think being able to keep all the 2026 recruits should be emphasized more.
-They're really going to have to hope all the seniors with eligibility for 2027-28 stay.
I guess I should not be surprised by this news? I guess I was of the impression (based upon all that the media and front office put out statements to the effect) that Boom was a slam dunk and would bring in all the recruits. I want to and will continue to back this team...but I suspect it's going to be a rough next couple years for this team and the next one. They'll win...but they'll be stuck in 3rd, 4th, or yikes 5th place in the WCHA I dare say it. That's a shame especially with Primerano on this roster. That should never have happened.
Hopefully Winny on the staff will help in the years to come. Getting a certain family away from Minnesota girls hockey would help.
NIL is horrible for American born girls players. Most college hockey teams are now going Canadian or over seas in recruiting.
Highschool is completely broken and not one person seems to care. Private schools will be adding more transfers this fall and it appears the transfer rules only apply to a few. The gap will get larger.
MN HP/Tier 1, name on the front and back matter first and we let people who run it let it be that way.

The roster for 2026-27 is exactly the same as it was projected to be before Frost's firing, aside from the transfers coming in.
@outofstateoutofmind I guess I was hoping that perhaps the hiring of the new coach might elicit a big-name transfer through the portal though. I think that was more of a pipe dream though.

HERE is the full U.S. ROSTER. Some interesting choices. Two uncommitted instate goalies chosen over the two goalies the staff seems to be targeting. The Callinan girl (who I’m pretty sure is the daughter of former goaltender Jeff) can’t commit until next year. Emma Pieper (East Grand Forks) is a bit of an unknown.

I have first had knowledge (and I'm sure it is at a lot of places) of a team out east go after more Canadians more then the then they have in the past. They then approached the American girls and ask them to use the scholarship on the Canadian, while the American will get the NIL, even after being at the school for years. The problem is taxes and other things don't equal it out in NIL and it has forced colleges to focus on the non-Americans because they can not get NIL and offering scholarships now more to the non-Americans first.
Sorry....back to Gopher recruiting.

Last night’s game story from “USA Hockey”:
Team USA opened the game strong, scoring three goals in the first ten minutes of the opening period. The first goal of the game came 4:28 into the first when Alexis Ulrich (Prior Lake, Minn.) ripped a shot from the point that Margaret Chudzinski (Westwood, Mass.) put in just seconds after a power play expired.
Canada tied the game on an ensuing power play with 13:28 remaining in the frame, Demi Lazarou put home a rebound from in tight, knotting the game at 1-1.
The U.S. then tallied two straight goals. Annabelle Lovell (Hingham, Mass.) tapped in a puck dancing on the goal line from the far post with 12:23 remaining in the period, before Frances Ames (Brookline, Mass.) cleaned up a power-play rebound on the doorstep just 2:15 after.
Adrianna Milani brought Canada back within 3-2 with just under eight minutes left in the opening period, before Aubryn Monter (North Ridgeville, Ohio) added Team USA’s fourth of the game, the second power-play score, with 1:06 remaining in the first.
Amelia Sutch (Blaine, Minn.) stuffed a rebound home with 4:56 left in the middle stanza to open a 5-2 lead, before Milani’s second of the game made it 5-3 heading into the second intermission.
Avery Jones pulled Canada within 5-4 with 11 seconds remaining in the game, but the U.S. held on for the victory.
Cecilia Wielenberg (Downers Grove, Ill.) made 19 saves in net. The U.S. outshot Canada, 32-23. Team USA was 3-7 on the power play and 2-3 on the penalty kill.

Cool. I believe one of the “Neutral Zone” lists I posted had her listed as like the 3rd ranked prospect for the ‘28 class which seemed odd as she’s aged out of U18 eligibility, but you never know with Quebec players. I knew the staff was communicating with her, but for whatever reason I wasn’t getting good vibes. From what I recall in watching Canada at last year’s World U18’s she is not flashy, but very dependable with the puck on her stick. Listed at 5’7” and kind of a slight build from what I recall. Have to use the “Anaïs Leprohon” spelling 🥸
