The crazy part of all this is the amount of money being reportedly lured to players in a traditionally non-revenue sport. The NIL numbers being thrown around that Cullen Potter got at Michigan State is flat out absurd!
How are universities going to make this money back? I assume the answer is that they won’t, but they want to win at all costs.
I missed the rumors. What are they saying Potter got in NIL?
6 digits
Bartoskiewicz with a 25 save shutout of the NTDP U-17's.

Ziemer and Whipple each with assists. Will be an interesting year for Whipple’s development. When he committed he was billed to be a first round offensive defenseman dynamo and he definitely has the potential to be, but he had a bit of an underwhelming season as a U17. Let’s see if he can play his way back into first round discussion.

I am fascinated by the two defenseman lined up for 2024. Whipple seems to be taking the Fasching/Reedy route as someone who has lost steam leading up to his draft year, though both contributed at the collegiate level so it can cut both ways. Not much talked about Yakesh and a year in the BCHL will surely keep things quiet.

My concern about Yakesh is he now has been tried twice during his junior career. That may not necessarily mean anything, but normally very good players don't get moved unless it is late in the year for playoff pushes. Maybe this was a case to give the player a break and moving him to a team where he could play more. Yakesh to me has always been a 4-6 defenseman, so anything more from him would be a bonus.

For what it’s worth Yakesh had a great preseason with Cranbrook. Put up something like 3 or 4 points in 2 games.
Yakesh puts up 2 primary assists in his first game with Cowichan Valley?. Moving to the BCHL this year will be great for him. First D pairing minutes. Power play time. Great for development.
Have the Gophers had any commits from this recruiting cycle? Several great years in a row followed by a weird silence (and a huge loss).
Like Christmas came and everyone forgot.

Phillips and Grimes in August. It has been quiet though. Expecting some movement soon.

No forwards, which has been disappointing since a number of top recruits have already verballed.
Any updates on Mooney?
Waiting for that next DIII blue chippah
Just a reminder. The NTDP U-17 team is in town again this weekend. They play an Elite League All-Star team (including Javon Moore) at noon on Saturday and 9:00 a.m. on Sunday. Games are at New Hope Arena.
Does "verballed" still mean we missed out and they won't be Gophers? I've read that in football, a verbal commitment just means the recruiting process will begin from other teams. Will that come to hockey?Have the Gophers had any commits from this recruiting cycle? Several great years in a row followed by a weird silence (and a huge loss).

A verbal is not binding. As we saw with Eiserman, you can flip without consequence. The only binding aspect is an NLI, though you can get out of those in certain circumstances. TL; DR version, verbals are just that but it is not as common to change commitments in hockey as it is in football.
Phillips with his first goal for the NTDP vs the MN high school elite league all stars?
Took in the U17 vs. Elite League today. I thought Phillips looked solid and was rewarded with his 1st goal. Definitely isn’t a flashy D but makes smart plays and he has a very hard shot. Javon Moore was on the Elite League team, he has all the tools but doesn’t standout much. I always come away thinking he needs to be more selfish and hopefully he develops that more over time.
LJ Mooney showed a few flashes of his skills but didn’t really impact the game. I thought Cullen Potter was easily the most noticeable and had two goals. I just don’t see him playing for Michigan State.
Very entertaining game and the Elite League held their own with far more effort against a very talented US team.
Owen Bartoskziewicz with a terrific start to his season. Has a save percentage of something like .970 after 4 games.
Teddy Townsend with a goal tonight for Waterloo. Three points this weekend.
Posting about Mooney in the committed recruits thread is diabolical. Got me real excited there.
MOONEY IS A GOPHER!!
So, we can't fire tBob yet? ?

HUGE!! Let’s add PA native, Christian Humphreys, as well!
glenhogan just ahead of the curve. Great news.
What’s the word on Mr. Reid?

Ontario threw me for a loop. Didn’t know our coaches could locate that province on a map?

Wait…that’s not outside of LA?? ?

That is out of left field. Cannot claim to know anything about him.
This is a release from his youth team after his Colgate commitment. Sounds like a bit of a late bloomer.
I’m surprised the prime minister would allow this.

Maybe he didn’t realize his recruitment hadn’t reached its Crest??
Plays with a couple of Gopher recruits at Sioux Falls. His head coach's son plays for the Gophers. I'm sure Rud knows what the Gophers are looking for and played matchmaker. Always nice to have a father of a current player help with the "scouting" of future recruits. Welcome aboard Hayden.

A bit of info on Reid and Mooney's goal from this weekend.
The Future of Pride On Ice@FutureGophersReid is adapting well to the USHL this year after playing the last few years in the GOJHL. Plays both C & LW. A true two way forward who LOVES to aggitate the opposing team. His speed and edgework are the strengths to his game. Offensive productivity will come with his toolset

Owen Barto is off to a great start with Youngstown. 0.72 - GAA and .972 Save%.
really hope he comes back and we’d have a solid tandem in Airey and Barto. Also, appears he is dating Skylar Vetter so that likely increases the chances he makes it back to campus.
little bit of a sigh of relief hearing the mooney news ?
IALTO
Mooney's stock as a prospect has been slipping this year from those who have watched him with the NTDP, which maybe that's not a bad thing for his college career, but not exactly what you want to hear.
Hopefully he hits a growth spurt.

He’s a 5”6 or 7 sixteen year old playing in the USHL give him time. He’ll be a great college player.
But not the world class sniper Caufield is. I'd take a Nathan Gerbe type college career, though...
@gophers2023 I know I’m a biased gopher fan, but I do not get the fascination with Caufield. He’s a good player but he’s so small and so one dimensional, he better be potting 30 goals in the chel to be playable
Mooney turns 17 in March. What year would he be expected to play - 2025?

Yes. Next two seasons with NTDP before hitting campus in 2025.
Hendrickson with a pair of assists in a Sioux Falls win this afternoon. Hayden Reid picks up his first USHL point with an assist.

I don't know. Last night he was a lot more noticeable on the ice than the guy the Wild drafted ahead of him.
