Lucius signed. I'm guessing the other two did too. NTDP didn't announce theirs yet. Usually that's when they get back. Lucius might have just been in a hurry to.

You think that keeps Chaz around for at least another year?

His slow start seems to indicate that he needs it.

Chaz is not leaving after this year lol. Bonin21 almost came out of retirement to say that

We've seen weirder things. All it takes is for someone to get in his ear.

However, at this point he does not pass the eye test...not even close. He needs to stay at least until he gets to that next level.

Great to see! Wish he could play another year of juniors but that seems unlikely.

Snuggerud seems to be developing rapidly. From solid, four year guy to potential high draft pick. Expect him to contribute early next year.

Quick USHL update.

Kurth is 6th in the league in points and 2nd in goals.

Luke Mittelstadt is 1st in goals and 2nd in points by a defenseman

Little write-up I saw from Chris Peters on the USNTDP U18's play at the Five Nations Tournament:

Jimmy Snuggerud, RW: It was a breakout tournament for Snuggerud who bookended the tournament with hat tricks. He has a great release and can score from in close as well. I liked the pace he played with, too. He had two exceptional games and two where he was fine. That’s why you take some caution with the international events, but there’s no question his stock is up after this one and will earn more serious looks as a upper-tier prospect as a result.

6 goals on 10 shots last night for Owen Bartoszkiewicz. Woof! Almost a 4 GAA and .860 save% this season.

Watched Rinzel yesterday. Tall kid with a lot of raw talent, but a pretty smooth skater for his size. Fun to see Chaska with a Broten and a Spehar. Spehar was small but very good (guessing a freshman or sophomore).

I saw that last night too, yikes. Also saw a tweet this morning on BC’s last three #1 goalies, Spencer Knight, Joseph Woll and Thatcher Demko. All of them played in the NHL last night. Pretty crazy.

Why is Chesley’s production taken so much of a hit this year? I’m not worried he’s still a great player with first round potential it’s just weird. If he falls to second round that may mean we get him for two years instead of one though Wink

I hope Cruz Lucius is healthy by the time they come here. Would be fun to see all three commits and the brothers go at it.

Also Nick Williams removed Minnesota from his social media bios

Been expecting this for years now.

If the players make the right decision (rare), only Faber would go pro. Johnson probably because of his first round status, but mehhhhh, he is going to struggle to break into the NHL right away.

Lacombe should stay.

Staudacher/Lacombe/Fish/Koster/Mittelstadt/Thomas/Chesley/Some other body for the roster

Even with the above I would be okay offering Brinkman the extra year if he wants it.

I bet all three of Faber, Johnson and LaCombe sign. Not saying it’s the best option for the latter two but I’m banking on it happening.

I think at least one of those three stay. I think there will be better options in portal than giving Brinkman a 5th year.

Good that Fish is getting some games, Motzko said on radio show we’ll see more of him in second half.

Yes, the probability of all three going is above 50%, I'd say.

When he was a 9th grader he looked like the next McDonagh. Since then his peers have just caught him more and more year after year and here we are with him as more or less a bottom 6 D and people not even wanting to invite him back.

Brinkman has his place on the team. His position as a 5th year guy is debatable, but he would be a valuable asset if the other guys took off.

He was a superstar in high school and projected out as a top college defenseman. Didn't turn out that way...it's a common tale.

He shouldn’t have accelerated high school to join the Gophers early. If he stays to play for the Gophs for a 5th year, he gets back on the same cycle as his high school classmates. Never understood why he and his family decided to accelerate, but can’t change it now. If he had stayed at Edina for the 18-19 season, their first D pair would have been Brinkman and Mike Vorlicky. Pretty strong duo. I also assume that leaving high school early hurt his draft position. If he had stayed in high school and dominated, I think he would have gone earlier than mid-6th round in the 2019 NHL draft.

Agreeing with everything. Can see why he wanted to give joining early a shot. The D unit he joined was PATHETIC, so he had a good chance of getting big minutes.

He joined Sadek/Stucker/Denman/Phillips/Zuhlsdorf/Rossini/Nanne haha a group with in all likelihood zero NHL games and 5 AHL games so far.

I wonder why Nate Warner hasn’t decommitted by now. I just assumed he was going to with how juniors went for him.

Also looking like John Mittelstadt will come in next year???

Nick Williams still showing the gophers on Youngstown line chart tonight. Not saying it’s 100% but those are usually pretty accurate.

Has he even played 5 games in the last 3 years? Wonder if it’s still that shoulder injury from high school.

Nick Williams has de-committed from Minnesota. He committed under the prior coaching staff, as an 8th-grader, before the new NCAA rules were adopted. I’m told he is looking for a school that better fits his career goals.

Aka we didn’t want him. He’s a good player don’t get me wrong smooth with the puck. He’s also 5”9 and questionable defensively. Not too heartbroken about this one.

Cal Thomas is mentioned, and surprisingly Connor Kurth isn't.

Quote:
Cal Thomas, defenseman, Sioux Falls Stampede, Minnesota commit: The one-time Vermont commit re-opened his recruitment this season and generated a lot of interest. The Arizona Coyotes draft pick might not run the power play for the Gophers, but he's a strong two-way defender.

19-24-43 in 29 games is pretty good for an 18 year old in USHL.

Goalie situation is going to be interesting. Bartoszkiewicz hasn't had a year which dictates he arrive in fall of 2022, though perhaps he is getting some momentum. Pichora is off the radar and Boynton hasn't gained any traction. Portal may be huge this offseason.

Bringing in Bartoszkiewicz is the last thing you want for his development but it might be the best option out there.

But assuming Boynton is ready to go, I wouldn’t want to stunt his development for him to play 3rd string for half a season.
