Alright, well I think if we’re going to do it to pass the time, what’s your all time (for Gophers)…
Metro Minnesotan
non-Metro/out state Minnesotan
Non-Minnesotan
and which lineup wins playing H2H
This is off the top of my head so I am sure I will miss on a couple guys but I will take the guys below for the out-state team and I like our chances:
Micheletti - Broten - Broten
Mayasich - Mariucci
Stauber

Whenever I do these my brain always gravitates to post-y2k so I’m just gonna do all after 2000 to make it easy on myself.
Metro: Westrum-Rau-Riddle
Leopold-Martin
Wilcox
Non-metro: Taffe-Miskovich-Pohl
Goligoski-Schmidt
Kangas
Outside MN: Vanek-Cooley-Kessel
R Johnson-Reilly(I guess people are saying he’s born in Illinois?♂️)
Robson
The non-MN team kills everyone in this version because whenever the Gophers venture outside MN, it’s always for a high end player. Knies, Ranta, Haula and Potulny(x2) were left on the cutting board for that team, and they gain Eiserman in a year.
The non-Metro team was surprisingly hard to find forwards for within my post y2k parameters, so I had to be generous to myself and count Hastings as outside the metro for Taffe.
Really wanted to pull the trigger on Jimmy Snuggerud for the metro team but couldn’t.

Rau was born in Illinois too. I don't like the idea of a guy raised in Chanhassen being counted as an out-of-stater.

Neither do I, I think of Reilly as a Minnesotan I just needed someone to keep me from putting Staudacher on that team?
So I think missed the Staudacher news. Did he end up transferring? If so, why? Wasn’t he redshirting so he could play here this year? Do we think he’ll be a big hole to fill or with the talent that we have and the talent that we have coming in do people think that we’ll be fine on defense?

Transferring to Northeastern. He wanted to finish school here last year and graduate before he left. IMHO, the Gophers will be fine as he would have been battling to make it into the lineup.

Interesting. I always liked his game but I understand the desire to find more playing time somewhere else. So what does our defense look like this year? Koster, Fish, Chesley, L. Mittlestadt, Thomas, Rud, and Rinzel. Am I missing anyone?

Just Axel Begley the recent commit (Hill-Murray). The defensive group is still really good. Staudacher would’ve been fighting for playing time as previously mentioned.

Sounds like another solid D corps. Looking forward to what should be another fun and exciting season.
Rinzel is going to have to learn the defensive side of the puck this season. His offensive instincts are off the charts, that’s why he went to the Blackhawks in the first round, but he definitely needs Miller to work his magic defensively based on the viewings I’ve seen of him.
On the plus side he seems like a first rounder we get 3 years from.

Odds this leads to a transfer? Do we have any inkling on whether he's supposed to be gunning for a starting job next year with Close gone?
My guess would be both parties have left the door open but once a player departs it would be aggressive to assume they return.
He’d be competing with Airey for the net. I’d love to have him back but I’d understand if he went elsewhere.
In my perfect world he comes back and him and Airey split up playing time a bit before committing to one of them.

Bob says they aren’t using the portal again for the second year in a row. Obviously things could change but I found that interesting.
So either Schmidt is back or there are some last minute freshmen still to commit. Seeing as they’re probably looking at a good locker room guy depth add if they go the freshman route, just keep Schmidt, as he checks all those boxes and has some experience under his belt. He’s someone you can throw in the lineup in the dog days of February. Great in the classroom and everyone loves him in the locker room, don’t know why they wouldn’t keep Schmidty?♂️
Or Eiserman ??

Sorry to beat a dead horse here, but have we confirmed Eiserman isn’t coming in? I still have my hopes up that they are working on it behind the scenes.
Has not been confirmed or denied either way but I would be very shocked if he was on campus this fall.
Eiserman being on campus this fall would be a bigger shock to me than Cooley coming back

I listened in and was pretty impressed with the episode. I also added their Ep with Martin Zellar to my queue.

I will be more than happy to wait a year for Eiserman if that means he brings his line mate with him.

I think there’s a legitimate chance of that happening which would be crazy.
MN players matters to me. I want to see a team that is primarily MN born. Adding special players from elsewhere is great, but I think I would honestly rather lose in the Frozen Four with a team that is mostly Minnesotans than win it all with a team with entirely out of state players. That is part of what makes Gopher hockey so special. I think this 'Pride on Ice' applies to a lot of the fans. Even when I watch the NHL playoffs, I gravitate towards teams with former Gophers, with Minnesota players, and especially former Gophers who are Minnesotans. I don't need to see all Minnesotans, but I agree it is cool to be mostly Minnesota born. Luckily, MN produces so many quality players that the Gophers should always be able to field the majority of the team with locals.
I don’t imagine a scenario where the majority of players are from out of state. That’s something that’s be worth talking about if things ever shifted in that direction hit as of now it’s less than a handful from out of state and they’ve been phenomenal players.
I've always been pro-Minnesota with a nod to outstate players who are difference-makers. Motzko knows how to recruit.
The age situation in college hockey is a tougher workaround.

Hard disagree. As much as I just love a good runner up banner (I don't) it's been too long since a gold one has been raised. Get there however necessary.

They've never come close to not having a MN-dominated roster and that's not likely to ever change.

Now Motzko says the new rink is 89 yards across! Seriously can anyone say for sure if it’s 89 or 92? I’ve seen/heard both equally as many times. It’s starting to drive me crazy?
89 feet!!!

He meant 89 meters duh.
89 inches sorry my bad
I’d be surprised to see Eiserman this year but at the same time they could have potentially lost 5 or 6 forwards this year and if they only thought Moore was ready to go it seems pretty late to start offering a scholarship spot for this season now when you had all year. Jess also wrote a couple weeks ago that the roster might not be finalized until September which seems pretty late to expect a commitment this year. Maybe they’re waiting for Hendrickson or Eiserman to finish accelerating or maybe trying to flip someone? If they’re not using the portal I can’t imagine there are too many better options than Clark who are not already committed somewhere.
I thought the podcast was a good listen. I know Vegoe has mentioned this a few times already, but I really like how Bob makes sure to thank the fans and give them credit for showing up. From my birds eye view it feels like this trickles down to the players. It seems like they all have a lot of pride to be Gophers.
I really feel like the Minnesota born player versus non-Minnesota born player is a non-issue. Bob is recruiting primarily Minnesota kids and sprinkling in blue chippers. It would be one thing if he was filling his 3rd and 4th lines from out of state kids. That is clearly not his intention.
Just to clarify no one here has an issue with Non-Minnesotans on the team I just started this whole thing by saying it woulda be kinda neat to have an all-MN team again, if it shakes out like that. Bobs knocking the ball out of the part with his recruiting lately, give me all the Knies’s, Cooleys and Eisermans!!
It seems like they all have a lot of pride to be Gophers.
The M means something to the players again. It cannot be overstated how important that is.

My post wasn't about the likelihood we see an all out of state team. I don't ever expect to see that either. I was responding to posters like Bookster for whom it apparently has zero influence on how they would see the team. Just letting them know that to many of us the pride in MN players is part of what I and others feel raises this team and fanbase above most, if not all ('arrogance'). (And it is a long off season, so such discussions help pass the time.)
For the record I didn't say you alluded to them ever having an all out of state team - only that they the roster is likely always going to be heavily dominated by MN born players. I'd imagine from year to year they'll have between 1 and 5 non-MN kids.

Add that to Moore 11 and Rud 15 for those keeping score at home
Here is. schematic of the changes at Mariucci from last year. It will be very close to this, minus the "Vomitory"
