A sweep is a nice thing thing going into 2023. Looking forward to a strong 2nd half and continuing the hunger to win and win well.
There still seems to be some doubt about it being a headbutt or not.
@chill-kessel would’ve been fine as two to Wisconsin and none to mn but kudos to the gophers for taking advantage and stupid for the badgers for putting themselves in that spot
Nobody leads with their chin when trying to headbutt someone
Badgers were gifted a 5x3 goal to start the game. Minnesota was gifted 3 minutes of a major PP. The officiating was so bad that neither team was really able to gain an advantage.
Plus one of the Badgers goals in the 3rd period was after both a cross check and a slash weren't called on the Badgers. If either gets called the Badgers don't score the goal and the Gophers are on a power play instead. The refs had a bad night.
Sweet swag tonight…nice M Hockey mugs. Big ones, no sponsor logo to ruin the design.

Tripping is a penalty whether you intended to do it or not. Head butting is really only a penalty if you intend to do it and it was pretty obvious he didn’t.
And the other 3rd period goal for WisconSIN was after a horribly blown offside against the Gophers. Yes, they had a chance to win the faceoff but didn't, and then the BADgers controlled the puck until they scored.Plus one of the Badgers goals in the 3rd period was after both a cross check and a slash weren't called on the Badgers. B1G refs... corrupt, or just incompetent?
It wasn't the prettiest game, but at least we finished the 1st half strong. tBob was in a much better mood in the postgame.
I'm still in awe of Cooley's goal tonight with how Knies fooled Moe into committing to him leaving all kinds of holes for Cooley to shoot at. Then again I'm still surprised Pitlick's goal last night went in on a seemingly harmless shot while everyone behind him was going off on a change.

SWEEP! This team is incredibly talented and so fun to watch. Just an another awesome weekend to be at Mariucci.
What a great first half of the season. Ending it at #1 in the pairwise.
It did look like Faber was pulling him towards him...I honestly still am racking my brain to remember seeing that before. Maybe a UND game back in the day? Seems like something Matt Jones would have done 😉
Seems like a pretty dumb thing to do when both players have helmets with full masks. I mean, what’s the point?
Why do football players punch other players sometimes? Athletes aren't always geniuses 😉
Wow well that was a series!! This year’s Nodak and Wisco series’ did not disappoint
We are so unbelievably due for a national championship. This is our year.
Yes I went there.

Between this and my staunch opinion on the 0-4 Alliance meeting in the Super Bowl, this could be one hell of a year (but apologies, MN ain't winning that Lombardi 😉 )
When you tell somebody somethin', it depends on what part of the United States you're standin' in... as to just how dumb you are.
I thought they looked better when up tonight than last night. Better defense, puck control, etc. Close just wasn’t as on fire and chances made it in.
They’ve proven they can score over the past 6+ games.

I think both nights, they might have taken them lighter than they should have, and WI scored, that was a severe wake up call, and then MN put the hammer down. It was night and day, listening to the radio, dunno how it looked on tv and such. Good sweep, but also some lessons to be learned.

If the Vikings and Bills do ever play in a Super Bowl the one thing we know for sure the game will come down to a last second game winning FG and who ever is kicking it will miss it. ?
And then the world as we know it, will end. Neo vs Agent Smith.;)

That was a plucky effort by the Badgers. They earned the 2-0 lead. The 5 minute penalty pretty much erased their lead and turned the game over to Minnesota. They did add a couple late goals, and it was enough to remind the Gophers that there was still some game left.
WI is better than I expected, and I wouldn't doubt if they have a better second half.

I don't think you're picked up on the sarcasm.
I did. I was agreeing with you

They definitely have the talent. While the inconsistency with their defensive structure frustrates me at times, it is impossible to deny that this team is building stronger, and stronger each week.
What I really love about this team for the postseason is that they have shown they can win many different types of games. If they run into a team that is very defensively stingy or has superb goaltending, we have the back-end to win a grind it out game that requires patience and puck protection. And if we fall behind because we run into a team that is clicking offensively and pushes the pace, this team seems to kick it into another gear that many teams don’t have and score quickly and in bunches.
I am feeling very good about this team right now.

I have watched a lot of Big Ten games this season with the BTN+ subscription and they are much better than their record. They just seem to have a knack for committing horrible turnovers at the absolute worst times. They have been in a lot of games, then just blow it. Gophers are night and day better than them IMO, but I think we are night and day better than a lot of teams this season.

Agreed!
When's the last time you got free Culvers two nights in a row? This is their year alright! I haven't been this excited for Gophers hockey in a long time. Go Gophers!
It was a strange game: 10 goals in 46 total shots. It wasn't so much poor defense or shoddy goal tending. There was some really good goals tonight.
Chesley gets his first. Thomas gets some points. Kurth gets off the shnide. Need I continue
A very successful weekend for the team and a border battle SWEEP
Goals on the weekend from Cooley (x3), Nelson, Brodzinski, Pitlick (x2), Chesley, Huglen, Nevers, Snuggerud, Mittelstadt and Kurth.
We are scoring goals right now.
I love love love beating that gd team.
I mean, I really LOVE it!
That was a fun weekend!

I think everyone but Close has 10+ points 😉
Culvers 2 days in a row.
What? How does that work?

Last night was my first trip to Mariucci in quite awhile. The Gophers were close to a 7th goal right after the 6th and I think they may have scored 10 that happened. It felt like a feeding frenzy at the start of the second.
Ran into 4 GPLers last night and met the Planet for the first time. I always enjoy running into people from this site.
Gophers didn’t need him…??. VANCOUVER — Sammy Walker said his rookie lap — a rite of passage before an NHL debut — felt like it went on forever.
The butterflies were definitely there before his first shift Saturday night again
st the
Canucks at Rogers Arena. Walker came through with an impressive debut in the Wild’s 3-0 victory. He showed off his speed, his poise, his tenacity. He drew a penalty, which led to the game-winning goal, and even got a breakaway. There was a spin-o-rama turnover in the first period he’d like to have back, but Walker made enough of an impression that there’s no doubt the Edina native will make his Wild home debut Monday at the Xcel Energy Center.?
For Walker, it was a night that validated his decision to sign with his hometown Wild in mid-August. He was a free agent after deciding to not sign with the Lightning, who drafted him in the seventh round in 2017. Tampa Bay aggressively tried to sign Walker the summer after his junior season, but the Gophers captain decided to return to school for his senior year. He’d score a career-high 14 goals in helping lead Minnesota to a Big Ten regular-season championship and its first Frozen Four berth since 2014.
This past summer, the Lightning could only offer Walker an AHL deal, according to his father, Ron, and the 5-foot-10 center picked the Wild over a handful of suitors.
“My relationship with (the Lightning) was unbelievable,” Walker said. “It just didn’t work out. I always wanted to stay in college — never really felt I was ready to leave until after four years. It was time.

Curious how this has anything to do with the the series this weekend…
@younggopherdiehard2 Duh…it doesn’t lol…something tells me most GPLers are glad Sammy played his first game in the SHOW!
Ecstatic for another gopher in the NHL but there is a former players thread for a reason.
Okay, weird band question…last night during the pregame warmup a group of about 10 band members ran through the sections over to #1 and all sat in the front row on the glass. They then put their fist on the glass for about 5 minutes, then ran back to the band area. At first we thought maybe they were waiting for players to fist bump then back, but we never saw a single player pay them any attention. So WTH were they doing? Curious minds want to know.
Note: Due to inflation dirty deeds will no longer be done dirt cheap.
They’re weird (good weird) and like to have fun
They do an awesome job and bring great energy

LOL, I never implied they weren’t and didn’t. I’m just asking if it meant something? Since no player responded maybe it was something new. We just thought it was funny. Made even funnier by the team ignoring them.

Not sure what the point is but they have been doing this for years. 11 players with double digit points before the holiday break. If Huglen hadn't missed a couple games with illness I suspect it would be 12. That's not bad.

We dont need him...
Sammy is where he should be. It is not some false dichotomy to be happy he moved on when he was supposed to. His coming back would not have this team any better right now. He was a senior and we wanted him to go pro, which he did and we are happy he is doing well.
Sammy was used incorrectly by Motzko. @vegoe has been saying this all last season. He should have been at wing and not center. Look at Cruikshank, he was played at wing when he should have been at center and look how well he is doing at center for SCSU?

After watching this series, no doubt Lucius has talent. He does seem like he is more of an individual player with the puck and is definitely a turn over machine. He had his pocket picked multiple times near the blue line that created breakaways for the Gophers.
It was the most amazing 6 minutes of hockey during the late 1st and early second that I have ever seen. There was a game in 2003 vs Denver at Mariucci that the Gophers were down 4-1 and won 8-5. I looked it up, and the Gophers scores 4 goals in 4 minutes during that game. It was nuts.
Fun weekend of beating up the BADgers, now time to relax for a few weeks before Jan Brady.
I'm 50% factual and 50% sarcastic. When you get to know me, you will know which is which.

I was wondering about the whole Cruz Lucius thing over the last two nights as well. He looked pretty solid, but made a lot of characteristically freshman-like mistakes. I think he'll be fine.
I wonder if you remove all the other issues surrounding the Lucius clan, that Cruz may have made the choice to go Red and be a first line player as opposed to being on a team where he would have been a 3rd or 4th liner at best and taken a back seat to a lot players on the current Gopher squad?
