Knies sucker-punched the guy.Player loses his glove… “they’re a hand on the ice”.
Wasn't referring to Knies. Was meant for the cheer that typed wrong and @cowgirl corrected.
Keep your stick on the ice...
I'm wondering how the refs decide not to toss a guy after calling a 5 minute on him?
Not sure how they weren't ejected... but it worked in our favor
The none call on Snuggerud cross check to the head is what lead to the undisciplined play by knies and Snuggerud. However, Bob and staff have to better at challenging, so many other teams do it to us but we dont challenge a blatant cross check to the head?!

An underrated point here and I think an important one going forward. So what if you lose your timeout, a 5 minute major is potentially game changing. I said the same thing to my wife when it happened, I was hoping Bob would challenge.
Player loses his glove… “they’re a hand on the ice”.
I think you meant:
“Oh my gosh there’s a hand on the ice!”
Similarly a helmet…. “OMG there’s a head on the ice!”
If the goalie’s helmet comes off, (intentionally or not) that used to be “U-G-L-Y you ain’t got no alibi you ugly, whoo-whoo, you ugly!
Y-L-G-U backwards you are ugly too you ugly, whoo-whoo, you ugly!Plus a few more verses…
Student section folks - of any of you are on here, I can give you a dozen more cheers we’d love to hear brought back!
I think they should give out Ross Bernsteins book "Gopher Hockey by the Hockey Gopher" to every student. For those of you that don't know about Ross, he was the first Goldy to ever take the "perch" at old Mariucci above the student section, also the first to spin his head. There were a lot of great cheers created in the student section at that time. Some have continued to this day, others, not so much.
Regardless, it's a great entertaining read and if you ever get to it, when he starts talking about a crazy guy that gave him a green bus (Goldy had a lot of "props" in those days), that was a good buddy of mine that sat in the student section with us.
That book is hilarious. The story of skating over the inflatable reindeer and being booed by everyone for killing Rudolph had me in stitches.
Note: Due to inflation dirty deeds will no longer be done dirt cheap.
Kids without fully developed brains playing an emotional game, yeah I’m not exactly shocked when they go over the line and do something stupid occasionally (this time it was their turn and not Cooley’s, who had his share of these earlier in the year).I know Knies (and I’m assuming Snuggy too) apologized to his team and owned up to the dumb hit. They know they can’t do that stuff in the playoffs. Call it a lesson.
I was impressed that they were able to win after an extended 5x3 and 5 mins of PP time, also glad to see Huglen score and contributions from 3 lines. All of this against another top team in the country for the sweep.
Only real “concern” for this team is that we know how they looked after a week off last go around against Bucky so hopefully they can win that game and move on to the conference final. Certainly doable but it’ll be interesting to see how they come out and look vs whoever they play in the semis.
Exactly. I went over to the desk after seeing the “Season Ticket Holders” & saw this too. My brother & U chuckled and kept walking.I’ll post here as there’s more eyes…what’s the email of the person or Dept in charge of game promos? Is it general marketing in the UofM Athletic. Dept or is it the hockey Dept?
Last nights “special gift” for STH was a slap in the face. A poster? Not even a full size poster, but one barely bigger than a bumper sticker. But even worse, how they treated the handout. We had to line up, they literally checked your name on a computer and then you were handed that? Big whoop de doo. What a joke. With all the secure measures making sure only STH got the gift you’d think it’s be something nice. Considering you can walk over to the promo table behind sec 1-2 and get a GD free poster anytime you want, last nights reward for steady paying fans was pathetic.
I would be happy if I got a free pop every once in a while. So it would not take much to please me but not sure a poster would please me.
For STH in all sports should have a universal Gophers STH card. The same looking card. The card gives you discounts at the Goldy Country locations. Plus for every game a STH attends gives them concession credits.

We do get a loyalty card (well now it’s on the Gopher Sports app); 15% off at Fanatics and free admission to most regular season sports (not fb or bb).
It does not work for Gold Country as they are not part of the fanatics brand (thankfully).
But anyone who is an alumni of the U should get 10% off at Gold Country FYI.
I fully admit, I am not a hockey aficionado, I have only been watching since my frosh year at the U (1998) and never watched other teams as much as I watch us so my reference is somewhat limited but...our top line is the best line I have seen in my fandom. I have seen players that are better, I have seen combos that might click on a similar or even better level for a time but I have not seen anything quite like this. They put the fear of god in teams and no amount of scheming really seems to ever slow them down. They all just have such complimentary skills and abilities and they always seem to know exactly where they all are on the ice at all times. It is just crazy. The fact that 2 of them are freshmen and the other is a sophomore and they are all from different states is just astounding. They remind me of some HS teams that make State and have 1 line that has been playing together since they were Mites so they dominate (like Greenway with Guyer and Sertich) it is a joy to watch!
I was thinking this same thing. They have an incredible amount of raw talent but their chemistry is even better. The way they always seem to know exactly where their linemates will be on the ice is uncanny.

I thought the effort was a bit lazy too. The posters could have at least been the size of the old team posters they used to give out, and in some type of device to protect them from getting destroyed during the game. I asked them to go get a bag or rubber band or something to at least roll it up as they had nothing.
I think STH should get a swag box at the end of the year that includes all the giveaways (so we don’t have to show up an hour and a half before the game to get stuff) or, have a separate line to get in and allow us in 30 minutes before the game too.
I would try fan relations:
or marketing: gsm@umn.edu
Heck, send it to both.
The “gopher fan relations” gets returned as undeliverable. But the gsm one works. I’ve sent a polite but sternly worded email. ?
I copied it from the gophersports website…the marketing email link didn’t even work on their website but thankfully a friend gave me the gsm one. Wouldn’t surprise me if those are intentional tactics to dissuade folks from contacting them.
If you don't hear back from them, call 1-800-U-GOPHER and talk to Fan Relations through that number. If this is a marketing issue, they'll be able to provide the right person's direct email. I know it'll probably be inconvenient since they're only open when most of us are at work and I've been put on hold each time I've called recently, but when I had a complaint I wanted to make a couple of months ago, they were able to direct me to the right person to talk to.
I did have to call at least twice about that complaint and the conversations didn't exactly inspire me with confidence even after they gave me the email that ultimately resolved my issue, so be prepared to chew them out if they aren't being very helpful.

I think he’s comfortable trying stuff at this level that NHL Dman (and coaches) prob won’t allow as much. I think simplifying his game while still being really effective will be a next step for him at the next level.Imagine how many points Cooley would have if he played hockey instead of Globetrotters-on-ice?
Cooley plays chippy but I’m fine with it. He’s gonna be amazing in the NHL but he really can be better. He’s brilliant but too many turnovers. If he gets a bit better at the good plays and cuts out the obviously not achievable plays he’ll kill it.
Agreed on Matvick. I’m a fan.
What was the story with him again? I remember he was our rinkside reporter on FSN nearly 2 decades ago now, but I don't recall why he left and was replaced with Lapanta.
I think ESPN signed him to do multiple sports. It was around the time things went sideways with the Twins network.
Oh okay. I do remember one of the first times he called one of our NCAA games, he was stumbling around a bit since he was still learning. I haven't watched Friday's game from start to finish, but based on comments I've heard, sounded like he's come a long way.

I haven't sat down to tabulate all the box scores from this season (I miss CollegeHockeyStats), but it seems like we love the long change in the second period. Against OSU alone, we've scored a combined 1-11-5 by period in 4 games.
I was so happy for Brodzinski and Johnson Saturday. Even though it was a team effort, to get those separation goals on Senior Night is a fitting way to end the regular season.
And not enough can be said about team defense when the only goals against all weekend were the two during the overlapping majors and it seemed like a real struggle for OSU to get them. And normally I wouldn't want anyone to be taking 200ft shots at an open net, but as far as I'm concerned, Johnson can do that as much as he wants this year because I have so much confidence that we can hold the line if he misses and gets called for icing.
I'd have to say that, as good as last weekend was, this one was even better and it was reflected in the well-earned 6 points. It definitely felt like we had been trending in the wrong direction after the weekend in Madison, but all that is out the window just two weeks later.

Matvick does a really good job on both football and hockey.
