Gosh I’d love to see a sweep. I know they’ll come out with an edge but Pegula isn’t a place we typically play well at.

Big series not so much for W/L but to show they can get their act back together and start playing their A game more consistently.

100% agree. We’re obviously gonna win the Big 10, but these last 4 games have bigger implications.

No I wouldn’t go that far. If anything Lamb’s performance last night solidifies his spot on the third line. I also think Strobel and Mittelstadt earned another series. That 4th line was our best line last night.

Would imagine it won’t be a fun film session this week, but hopefully this is a purge from the system that’s better to have now and not later. I’m anticipating a split, but sure would be nice to see the team reassert itself.

Has been asked before but I'm a compulsive worry-wart.  Any additional information on Faber?  Said he looked alright leaving the locker room, but just concerned for our best player and captain.

I just hope we come out and play with some intensity. The Wisconsin series was tough to watch

Just going to echo everyone else. This is a “show me” series for me. Since Christmas they have looked great at times, ok at times, and at times down right off of their game completely. For the most part they have gotten away with it. As I mentioned in an earlier post, the couple of times that they didn’t get away with it you could explain it away. Well you can’t explain away this past weekend. As important as the points are I agree with everyone in that it’s just as important with how we play. I want to see 120 minutes of intensity, grit, passing with a purpose, hitting the net, smart plays, and overall just good, solid Gopher hockey that we know this team is more than capable of. They have a choice right now. Are they going to let this past weekend in Wisconsin frustrate them and continue to play inconsistently? Or are they going to let it piss them off and use that anger to fuel the fire to send them roaring down the stretch. At the end of the day the coaches can only do so much. It’s up to the players to get their heads right and figure it out.

The third period on Saturday was excellent, fun, fast Gopher hockey. They just couldn’t get one to go. The question is why did it take getting down 3-1 for them to start playing hockey?

Expecting a split but they are more than capable of sweeping a Penn State team that’s, I’ll say it, a bit overrated in my book.

If there’s a brief letdown this weekend and next and a comeback in playoffs I’m okay with that. Playoffs are a month of winner take all hockey. Just make the ncaa tourney (top seed would be nice), win your regional, play the best hockey of you life in frozen four. That’s all I want.

The next four games will be like playoff games. The Gophers don't want to fall out of a number one seed, and they want the league title; Penn State hopes to climb in the pairwise; and Ohio State wants to stay off the bubble. These will be brutal games, but I'd rather have this than playing throwawy games.

MI is the best opponent I've seen all season, but these two teams are no slouches—and both are more than capable of beating Minnesota.

This weekend is certainly a good test to see if the Gophers are really having issues, or if they just didn't take the BADgers seriously.

B1G refs... corrupt, or just incompetent?

Pegula is never easy, although the Gophers swept them there last year. Hopefully Faber is ok to go as well. If they win on Friday, does Barto get Saturdays game?  Not sure when else to get him in there. Close will start on Senior night, so if Bob wants to rest him it would have to be either 1 game this weekend or the Friday game next weekend. Would love to see the Farm Kid get back to his pre break play. I wonder if he is a bit dinged up. Seemed a step slow last weekend. For me the PSU rivalry is just below the Badgers and Michigan in the B1G. Their coach seems a bit smug to me. Gold M 16

I’d like to see Close from here on out. He’s had plenty of rest and will get another bye week coming up. Changed my tune a bit after the Wisco loss.

It's not about getting Close some rest it's about getting Barto some game action in case he is needed at some point in the playoffs. Coach has recently said he wants to get Barto some work. Once the Big Ten title is secured he will likely give him some playing time.

From tonights coaches show--

They were rusty in game 1. Complete disaster of a start because of the penalties and could not get everyone going.

Once WI got the second goal in the 2nd game, that gave them life.

Missed the net 8 times in the 1st period.

Need to learn from that game. Teams will want to slow us down.

Bob's only problem with the too many men is that Michigan had 7 men on the ice a few weeks ago and that goal stood. Disappointed with the inconsistency.

Wally asked Bob what the rule is, and Bob laughed and said he doesn't know.

Bob again stressed they need an 8th team.

You have to be smart, but they give you chances to score.

Took Bob a couple of years to figure out how Penn St plays.

Need to limit their rush attacks from the neutral zone.

Bob talked about face-offs. The Gophers are a good face-off team, not great.

*** No questions from Wally about Faber or if there are any banged up players. I guess Jess will have to take one for the team on Weds.

He took a hit at center ice in the 2nd period. After the hit as he skated off he was raising his right arm and shoulder. He did come back for a couple of shifts later that period, but none in the 3rd.

This series just got even more important. How will we look without our captain and one of our best players? Boys need to buckle down even more now. Don’t let this derail anything.

Hopefully it is something as simple yet like a grade 1 or 2 AC joint separation, but then that can be a nagging injury if not given the time to heal.

Exactly...

Does Staudacher come off his "redshirt" and crack the lineup?

If you want to look at what I suspect is the hit that caused this, it happened in the 2nd period of Saturdays game with 9:25 left. Faber went for a hit at center ice on #21. it certainly didn't look like a hard hit. Faber hit him with his shoulder in the chest area. As he skates off, he is stretching out his shoulder/arm joint. He was out there 2 more times. I short shift before the Gophers drew a penalty and for the PK with around 3 1/2 minutes left in the 2nd and that is the last time I saw him. Did not see him take any hits those last 2 short shifts. Again, pure "sitting in my basement" speculation. ?

For the Big10 Tourney, yes.  Too many other variables to say after this weekend that the Gophers would wrap up the #1 NCAA seed.  Hell, losing in the second round of the Big10 tourney would likely drop them out of #1 overall contention, especially if Quinnipiac runs the table in the EZAC.

”All but lock up”. Yes if we get swept by OSU then lose in the semi’s of the B10 tourney and Q runs the table we’d probably get passed. But just losing in the semi’s wouldn’t do it cause the B10 has actual non pairwise harming teams.

Take this with a grain of salt. I have no idea who this guy is or if he has any credibility. But I saw this on a Gopher Hockey Facebook group regarding Faber and a separated shoulder.

Separated shoulder/AC joint injury like I guessed.  Just a pain in the ass injury that has no fast way to help heal it other than time, rest, immobilization for a period of time, and some anti-inflammatory meds.  The short term affects is that it makes raising your arm from your side above 90 degrees super painful and any quick movement at the shoulder very painful.

Sitting Faber for this weekend and possibly next is probably the best thing for his shoulder and long term for the Gophers if they want him to be a part of a long postseason run.  Like I've mentioned before I deal with ac joint injuries from wrestling still to this day because I didn't go through proper therapy, that is on me.  I would be certain that the Gophers have a plan that will get him 100%, we just have to show some patience on the timeline.

I assume there must be many different degrees of separated shoulders then? A separated shoulder injury sounds horrific and I can't imagine going back out for a few shifts after one.  Is that the injury that Dalvin Cook seems to deal with every year?

Yes there are; grade 1 is just a sprain or stretching of the ac joint, grade 2 is a partial tear of the ligaments, and grade 3 is complete tear of the ac joint.  Let's hope for grade 1.
