I skipped the cocktail and just went straight to cask-strength bourbon, so we're on the same page.
Yep. I killed a 100 proof bottle of CC in this one - I got it as a gift from a Canadian coworker. There may have been more than two jiggers left and since I'm almost out of sweet vermouth....well you do the math.

Other than the CC portion (minor personal objection, I always go with rye in my manhattans), that sounds very much like how I'd make one.
Love going from nearly having Severe Thunderstorm Warnings earlier, to feeling chunks of snow falling on me, and the upcoming potential blizzard.
I almost always go with rye, too, usually Bulleit. Jim Beam Black is also really good Manhattan.
This was not something I'd buy but it's pretty good in the Manhattan.
Just turned on Miracle (RIP, Doc) and there could be an Irish in me future.

Mrs. GE and I were at The Galleria in Edina for the the Bachman's flower show (Mrs. GE is a 39 year Bachman's employee) and there were a few claps of thunder as we ran through raindrops to the car - around 7.

We had a good number of very loud claps here in the middle of Saint Louis Park. Usually means they hit one of the water towers near us or Methodist hospital.
This vacation sucks so far. Not only are we not in FLA, we have been without power since midnight and they keep pushing out the restore time. It’s now to 6:45pm, after we’d need to leave if we are to fly out tonight. I am so done with this winter!!!
If that were snow they would be in Sierra Madre Mountains company!

Wind/waves are strong enough in Duluth that they're coming over the top of the wall on the canal pier:
Wife and I going up north of Split Rock tomorrow through Monday!!!
Gotta ask…did you get the months beginning with A…April & August confused/switched? April is a notoriously lousy weather month in Duluth & the North Shore. ?
And then an hour or so ago, there was ice that had washed up onto the pier from the waves. And the waves proceeded to use it to bash the gate on the pier open:

Our anniversary is Monday... We stay at Cove Point and it's great hearing the waves crash against the rocks at night. As well as watching the waves coming in while eating breakfast.
My parents headed back to the cabin in Montana today for their six months and a day stint...LOL!!! Pretty much from Saint Cloud through Bismarck was major snow, wind, slush, and horrible roads. They saw numerous cars in the ditch. As well as many semi’s pulled over, or even tipped over from the wind. And probably the biggest reason most cars were in the ditch is because their cruise control was on and when they hit slush, they lost control.
Driving around Duluth while my wife as at a used book store. Can’t imagine even with a 4x4 trying to get up North Lake Ave in an ice storm or a snowstorm. And even going doing and hitting some ice.

Was up in Duluth one Gopher hockey weekend 20+ years ago and we got 18 inches of snow one of the nights. Our hotel was up on the hill so that was interesting getting around that night. We made it somehow.
We don't get many nice days in Minnesota, and now Canada is ruining the few we do get with their wildfire smoke. Is this revenge on the US for all their NHL teams getting bounced?

I don't recall any thunderstorms this year. And I can't remember having a soaking rain- at least not since April. Any rain in north metro has been very short lived. I think a system came through a couple weeks ago and it split and went right around us with rain to our east and rain to our west.
The water bill is going to be sky high next quarter. Forecast is bleak.
Going back through my records, I have 1.36 inches of rain since May 1st. This was over 9 days of measurable rainfall (at least .01 inches) plus two more days that I saw rainfall (drops on the windshield/pavement/etc) but were less than .01 inches.
April had 4.69 inches of total precip for me (likely a bit more, I think some of it evaporated off while I was in Florida). I can't say for sure how many days it rained, but that was the total rain+melted snow for me. April 1st alone was 1.88 inches of melted snow.
NWS is predicting 1 inch for us Saturday night. I'll believe it when I see it.

Last week here in Inver Grove Heights we had 2.03" of rain in about an hour and a half. It was VERY isolated as the airport only received .06 inches and its about 10-15 minutes from us.
Well, I think the forecast of an inch of rain around my area is not going to happen. We are down to a prediction of .14 today and I have my doubts if we even get any. Our next chance is now later next week.
I was recently informed by a GPLer that I'm related to Airey

Our forecast just went from an inch to a tenth. I wonder what NWS was smoking last night?

it's not hard to understand if you look at the models. It's a complicated system we've had all summer so far. The jet stream hasn't behaved as normal due to El Niño. You'll see a ton of instances throughout June where storms were coming from anywhere between the the south and east.
instead of the normal cold air coming down from Canada to precipitate the moisture from the gulf or pacific, we've had no cold air masses that converged at the same time as the hot wet air from the south.
These aren't fronts and systems they're sporadic downbursts which are difficult to model
If you want a half decent forecast you can see yourself, find the College of DuPage's weather page and use that. It's the most up to date and comprehensive source I've found.

we've had shit for rain. I think maybe two days above a tenth in over a month. It's hard to even map out the measurements. They're so isolated and random, you're basically throwing water darts at a map.
we've been working to replace as much of our front lawn with landscaping as we can. But our water budget for the month has probably been higher than I've seen it in over a decade living here
