I’m planning to upgrade my pos iPhone 7 to a 14. My desktop is broken so I no longer have access to backing up my phone through iTunes. I have iCloud backup turned on but am having a hard time finding an answer to my question regarding iTunes:
I understand that the music I have downloaded through the ITunes App lives in cyberspace. However, I have a significant amount of music that was manually added from cd to iTunes while I still had a working computer. Is this music also automatically saved to iCloud with a phone backup, or will I need some other means to get that transferred over?
I do not have an Apple Music subscription; It seems with this there is a sync feature to transfer across devices. Would that work or am I SOL in getting my third party music on my new phone?
Itunes on desktop was a pita to work with, so I cannot imagine this is what most folks do - so I’m curious what my options are?
This is what happens when you go six or seven years between new phones. I’m so behind in technology it’s not even funny. ?

It is worth calling and asking them to find out if they can help.
I know in the past the CDs I had installed in my iTunes on laptops didn't save when I installed iTunes into a new laptop, but that was also before the Cloud stuff was huge.

Unless you like the liner notes, art, having the physical copy. Ask the current vinyl collectors.
Just sold all my cds (rarities, imports, and um, other) to a friend who loves that stuff as much as I do. Bittersweet, but it was time. Yes, I burned them all to my hard drive beforehand. I just needed an "un-cluttering."

Don't bother, get TIDAL instead the sound is significantly better and otherwise the same. Costs a couple bucks more.
Just wondering if anyone here has used either the NVIDIA SHIELD Pro or Apple TV 4K for streaming. Picked up a new TV recently and am looking to upgrade the streaming device.
I have been using a Apple TV 4K for a while, but honestly... Any of the streaming devices are pretty good. Roku, Amazon, Google. Never heard of the Nvidia device.
I have just found that the software included on most TV's these days are just terrible and super slow. So a dedicated streaming device is recommended.

I like AppleTV as much for streaming music through my receiver or using it to project my phone/iPad/Mac on my TV as I do for TV streaming.

I've got a couple of Roku TVs and one Samsung. For everything I do, the streaming seems to work great on all three. Any issues I have seem to go back to the streaming service in question (Amazon taking almost an extra hour to get my Wheel of Time episode released in the US the other night, for example, but that was the same on PC or phone app, so nothing to do with the TV I was watching on)
Just wondering if anyone here has used either the NVIDIA SHIELD Pro or Apple TV 4K for streaming. Picked up a new TV recently and am looking to upgrade the streaming device.
I've had one of the Nvidia Shields for a number of years now. I think I had a few issues trying to stream pirated 4k movies and push it's limits when that resolution was just taking off but now I just use it for watching DirecTV, Netflix, etc. and it's doesn't skip a beat.
I use it with a harmony remote.
It supports most apps (DirecTV being added recently) but I would double check to see if it supports the apps you need.
No one has mentioned it yet but the Twin Cities major TV networks recently launched over the air ASTC 3.0. What this means is 4k over the air signals. I had to buy a converter box but watching football in 4k is sweet!
@orion Thanks for the tip, I hadn't heard this! I've always been disappointed that sports on my huge TV I bought a few years ago looked terrible... So do I just have to buy the $90 box from ADTH? I currently just have the OTA antenna plugged into my TV...
@rowshkex yes that's the one I bought. It's a little buggy but it's getting regular software updates to fix issues as they go it's the only one with the encryption figured out.
@jupiter good question. I believe it's upscaled to 4k. Playoff games will be native 4k. I will say though that even with that it looks much clearer that the ASTC 1.0 ota signal. The hdr part of the 3.0 signal might have something to add too.

I thought everyone on GPL was an IT grad, or CSE for the young'uns. What part was confusing?
Actually, I am surprised by the apparent over-subscribing by techies on GPL. I don't know what percentage of grads from UMTC are techies, but a higher percentage seem to post on GPL. Fine by me.

Def not legally, and even some cheat sites don't cover the regional channels, like NESN or B1G10 network or BSN, etc. But, snark has always been a part of this site. 😉

I subscribe to the B1G channels, looking for the games on Fox9 and Fox9+ that aren't carried on BTN+. And assuming the Whoiux games are only possible with a NACHO Channel subscription?
Anyone still have a yahoo mail account (yes, insert ridicule here). It’s been my main email for 20+ years. I’ve never had to re-log in on my phone but today it stopped working. Every time I try to log in no matter what device (and several I’ve used to log in before), I get this message:
It’s an endless loop. I can get to a screen where I can change my password which I did - this still pops up when I log in with a new password and I’m on the device I always use. It does this on my laptops too. The only tech help option is to give them my credit card for paid help.
Is anyone else experiencing this? Is it a yahoo problem? I’m hopeful it’s a temporary glitch. I suppose if I’m unlucky I’ve been hacked.
I do not relish the thought of figuring out all the important financial and medical and personal folk who have this email and I have to update. Or missing important emails in the meantime.

I still use Yahoo as well. I checked and my app is working fine. Yahoo is weird sometimes when it wants two-step authentication. It’s funny to verify that Yahoo email I have it send an email to Gmail under the same address.

That sounds like you're somehow getting into the Signup area, not Login.
Mine is still furcockted on any device or computer I try. I may have to break down and pay to try the help but have already started a new Gmail account and am going to be calling lots of places in the next week to update.
fwiw since I know customer service in the US isn't the same, but when my wife had 2 recent issues both with Apple ID and her Gmail, she brought her iPad to an Apple store and then to location for our ISP and in both cases customer service reps helpe her solve both.

I have the ESPN+ subscription and they recently added all MLB games. Instead of paying for the Twins streaming service, I’m thinking of getting a VPN and changing my location to outstate. Does anyone have a VPN service they recommend? Can I Chromecast from my laptop to my TV with a VPN? I’m assuming that the TV uses it’s own WiFi, which I cannot change the location?
If not an old fashioned HDMI cable works for a laptop to tv connection. Thats how we watch espn+ on our archaic technology. 😂

I use nordVPN, I assume your method would work and you'd wanna use an HDMI like CowGirl said.
I also use Nord VPN. The possible issue is that some streaming services block VPN connections to stop exactly what you're doing. I don't think ESPN is doing that yet, but, it would be something to know might happen in the future.
