As a parting gift to my folks, for our last dinner in Minnesota I grilled some wagyu rib

eyes (perfectly seared, medium rare on the inside) with mushrooms and peppercorn sauce, and Patti made some roasted potatoes and broccoli. Paired with some pinot noir it was the perfect ending.
Peppercorn is so underrated.

Went to Gary’s Supper Club in Lakeville for our anniversary, a month and a day late. It said supper club on the building and they tried to hard with the bells and whistles of supper club. Outside of that, both our dinners were excellent. Still looking for that tradition supper club like Wiederholts in Miesville or Hammond Steak House in Superior, Wi. We might try Ranchero Supper Club in Webster next time.
I missed them all when visiting. Would love to get my hands on the Korean fried chicken one though which might pop here due to the abundance of Korean nationals in town.
Went to Revolve Hall in Apple Valley for dinner tonight. Basically 6 restaurants in one. Curiouser Coffee and Conservatory, Ice Cold Tacos, Square Cut Pizza, Mean Miner's, BBQ Boys and Minnesota Burger Co. Minnesota Burger use to be in the building across the parking lot but were offered a price for their building they couldn't turn down. So, they moved into Revolve Hall.
My wife had a bacon cheeseburger from the Minnesota Burger menu, and I had a pizza from the Square Cut Pizza menu. It was a pepperoni pizza with house red sauce, mozzarella and chili infused honey. You can't go wrong with Minnesota Burger menu, but it has changed since we were there last in the old building. All the menus look good, so I'm sure we'll go back.
Forgot to mention how much we enjoyed Standish Cafe in said neighborhood during our last visit. Outstanding food, a nice variety of selections and I thought the pricing was fair. It was also a great setting. Recommend the picnic bench under the big tree if the weather abides.

It actually might be the best pepperoni pizza I’ve ever had. The chili infused honey really brings out the flavor. Plus the house red sauce and dough is good. It’s hard to screw up pepperoni and mozzarella.
Yet, somehow, Papa John's manages to. There's something about their dough and especially sauce that I just can't stand.
To put it into perspective, when work brings food into the office, if it's Papa John's pizza... I do something else for lunch rather than get the free food.
On bad pizza, I’ll just peel off the cheese and toppings. It’s the dough and sauce that makes a pizza for me. The only good thing about Papa John’s is the garlic dipping sauce and the side peppers.

I always was of the opinion that the ONLY good thing about Papa John's was the crust.
And I got some possible info on Pub 819 in Hopkins, which is currently closed/rebuilding due to a fire. Buddy's GF thought she saw a "For Lease" sign there today, I will confirm or deny tomorrow when I hit that area up. If this is true, I am very sad. That place was part of my Sunday brunch ritual for about 5 years.

Pizza delivery at our house is bleak and the one place in Lindstrom that will deliver here was not open or delivering last week when I had a hankering. I didn’t want to drive anywhere so I ordered from Dominos. Got their NY style and it was surprisingly not awful. Not something I’d order regularly but I’ve had a lot worse.
I usually order Dominos once year as a reminder of why I don’t usually order it. Same with Burger King, stop in very 2-3 years to refresh my memory just how bad it is.

We have a Sarpinos nearby that delivers which is usually our go to. But it is not cheap. Dominos is our budget pizza if we are lazy, otherwise we’ll also run into Rosemount and get Carbones.

I miss Sarpino's.

There is no "For Lease" on Pub 819, but peeking into the inside, if they are open by Labor Day, I'd be surprised.

I’m curious what everyone thinks of buca di beppo’s? I have been to the one which I think is the oldest around St. Paul and the other was I thought near Burnsville. Both were before covid so it’s been awhile but really liked it. Restaurant options aren’t as good here in southeast mn, as up around the metro area so I guess I’m kinda wondering where it sort of ranks with others and if it’s the same or better over the last 5-7 years.

My wife and I like Buca. It was our go-to for family style Italian food for years. Unfortunately, we no longer go there since the Burnsville location burned down (3-4 years ago), and we rarely venture into St. Paul or downtown Minneapolis when we go out to eat.

Robert St. in West St. Paul is getting a Popeye’s. Once that is built the following chicken places will now be a short walking distance from each other.

Beginning to look like the Apple Valley ‘chicken district’… lol!!!
Driving on campus on Wednesday with my wife for her appointment. After her appointment, we went to Al’s Breakfast and passed Nashville Coop. I told her I would not be surprised if that’s the next chicken restaurant in Apple Valley. All of the chicken places in Apple Valley always have lines and seem busy except KFC.
Urban Air (they do have food) in Apple Valley is a high level of controlled chaos. My wife got monthly memberships for the two youngest. They’ve been 3 time since with me tagging along twice. We went yesterday afternoon and this evening. It’s nuts… fun for a kid, but a parents possible nightmare. I’m a laid back dad, let my kids run, bike and play outside with little supervision. Though this place Im keeping a tighter eye.
Had to run an errand to Highland Park after work with my wife. Went home, picked her up, ran our errand and while we were in the neighborhood stopped by @greyeagle old stomping grounds and had dinner at ‘The Nook’… never disappoint!!!
Amy's Cupcakes in Hopkins has been bought by Angel Food bakery, don't know when the switchover is occurring though. The owner of Amy's has had health issues for a while, so I am thinking she had a little too much to handle. I hear the new place is really good, though.

Ive meet my match with the claw machines at Urban Air in Apple Valley. I probably was at 80% of picking up the item. Though the trolley, the claws are set real loose, made for several fails. I made each of my kids happy, but it was expensive… lol!!!

80% is solid ROI. But, gotta know your claws.

Yeah… 80% picking the item up, and about 5% of that was a winner. It was a rough night… lol!!!
I'm surprised there are any KFC's left. It used to be very, very good in this part of the world but it has gone significantly downhill to the point I'll never try them again, and I tried KFC 3 years ago when visiting the U.S. and it was also hot garbage. Same thing with Wendy's.
I read somewhere that KFC is one of the biggest fast food chain outside of the US. If I recall, it’s very popular in China. i’ll take Wendy’s over Burger King. Wendy’s chili is actually really good once it’s not boiling lava hot. I like Wendy’s mayo and lettuce they put on their burgers. Better than any other fast food chain I’ve tried.
Best was our honeymoon… 75%. 3/4… One prize for each kid when we got back.
Claw machines are rigged. Some states consider them gambling machines and have laws regulating they only have to put enough pressure on the claw to pick up a prize on x% of attempts. MN is not one of those states although some cities have their own ordinances.
I won't give money to my kids for claw machines unless its the guaranteed candy claw machines.
