Met up with @Armadillo at Ansari's in Eagan today, they have a Lamb Au Jus (basically lamb French Dip, provolone cheese). Dee. Lish. Uss. I've yet to have a meal there that is less than delectable.

Had a patient today who's an mgr at a Chick-fil-a. I told them I don't there much, but when I do, I've never had a bad experience and the staff is always friendly. I don't think I've ever seen a disgruntle employee. I said the only other place I've never seen disgruntle employees is Culver's. They laughed and said that almost weekly in meetings they compare themselves to Culver's and Culver's is their #1 competitor for satisfaction scores. I would agree...

Went to Ansari’s for lunch and tried their version of a French Dip… you are correct. It’s hard to pass on the Taste of Jerusalem (my almost always choice), but their French Dip and stir fry are very good. My wife likes their shawarma… and so do I as leftovers for lunch the next day.
Noticed tonight that Racks restaurant on Cedar Lake Road in Minnetonka is now an El Loro. I only ate at Racks once, and that was enough. I guess many others did the same thing.

Good thing I found out what Racks was before I took the wife and kids to the one in Burnsville. Every time I drive past that place, I laugh within... lol!!!

I knew what it was when I visited, it's a poor man's Hooters, so to speak. Every factor of the place that mattered I could get elsewhere in Hopkins that was either cheaper, or better quality. As for the servers, it was ex-prom queens trying to hang on, or young wanna-bes trying to get noticed. Blech.

There is an el loro next to the racks in Burnsville. For the last four months or so the parking lot lights at el Loro have been flashing. I see this every night on my drive home and I don’t know how they haven’t fixed that yet or the folks that work there and have to see this all night long haven’t gone insane.

The El Loro by my place is literally next door to Brito's Burritos (based in St Louis Park) and 3 miles away from Nacho's (fam owned better version of Chipotle, which is also downtown Hopkins). Dunno what that company is thinking. This area is all word of mouth, not based on Yelp or whatever. I really don't see Loro surviving.

Reminds me of the Baker’s Square in Roseville when it was open. For several weeks the sign read B~~~~S Square. The a, k, e & r were burnt out. So for a couple years I started to call Baker’s Square, the BS Square. Too bad the BS Squares I know of in Minnesota are closed.

There’s 7 fast food chicken restaurants in the ‘chicken district’ in Apple Valley. All with in 1 of each other seem to be busy.
‘House of Curry’ in Rosemount… I work with a gal from Sri Lanka and she’ll bring me Sri Lankan food every now and then. She has mentioned this place several times and today I went and had the buffet. Worth every penny and everything was excellent.
Great Dane in Wassau, WI is closing down at the end of April, citing rising food costs and sustainability. I usually stopped there for lunch if we took that way to Houghton.

Btw… along with being curious about THC drinks compared to beer when I was at Surly. I also ate…
Their beef brisket is excellent. Kinda spendy how much you get, but the price is made up in the quality. Also cauliflower appetizer and chips and cheese dip were great. They give you plenty of cheese dip for the amount of chips you get. I made sure to keep the leftover cheese dip to use with the french fries that I was sharing with my daughter.
I also really like pickles. So anytime we eat out and you get pickles with your plate. My wife and 3 kids always give me their pickles. Surly has really good pickles. I could go back and just eat a side (if they would sell a side) of pickles.
If you ever hit up the Bay Street Burger Dive in St. Paul request extra pickles on your burger, they are really good.
My brother-in-law tended bar there for a while and apparently the chef uses his grandma's recipe.

@gator I used to have a PT job as a food tour guide. Took people on restaurant tours and craft brew hops.
i hated going to Surly with a group. They could not have been less accommodating

Leaked footage of Zwak's most recent tour.... 🤣

Anyone have any good places in St Louis they recommend? I’m finding most places near the arena don’t take reservations, not a big deal but it is easier.
Note: Due to inflation dirty deeds will no longer be done dirt cheap.

A coworker of mine works in St. Louis, she suggested Katie's Pizza and Pasta. We'll be down in St. Louis area the weekend after Frozen Four and looks to be 3 locations.

Thanks! I just made reservations for Saturday before the game. Food looks fabulous.

I was leaning towards Katie’s, but might go with Old Spaghetti Factory. Old Spag. has a better kid’s menu. As long as there’s grilled cheese, my kids will be good. Plus I cooked at the Old Spag. (Mpls) while in college. For years I wouldn’t eat there. Now I like it and unfortunately the one in Mpls closed.

Are you going to try the Pointer's Pizza 28 inch pizza challenge?
It's a two person challenge to eat the over 10 pound pizza in one hour and win $500.
We’re going to a French bistro on Friday, a nicer spot. But before the Saturday game we want someplace within easy walking distance of the arena, not a sports bar (not that we object to sports bars, but I hate packed loud places) and that has both draft beers and cocktails. Plus I like a reservation as we’ve been burned at past FF. I’m older and crankier over stuff like that. 😉

Hey supposedly we get five more years of Sturbs (but they still will not invest in any upgrades). Once that place goes there nothing left for us “older” folk. :/

The Twin Cities and especially the UofM don’t like old… tear down and make new. Even though the old is just fine, just needs upkeep and repair.
Has anyone ever had Wendy’s chili served not boiling hot… lol!!! Anytime I get Wendy’s chili, I almost have to wait 10-15 minutes before even attempting to eat it.
Went to Mesa Pizza yesterday for dinner. The pizza is by the slice was pretty good. Pizza places by the slice are few and far between. So when pizza sounds good, you don’t want a full pizza and you want a couple options!!!!
Went Al’s Breakfast this morning. First time since pre-pandemic. The food is good as always. Just the atmosphere and vibe isn’t the same. Just like Mickey’s in downtown StP. The food is good, just the atmosphere and vibe isn’t the same.
Tono Pizzeria & Cheesesteaks in Apple Valley. I had a supreme cheesesteak (onions, mushrooms, green peppers and jalapeños). Went provolone, but you can get cheese whiz for a someone like @armadillo. They are Philly & Sicily themed with some New York as well.
The cheesesteak was really good and comes with a side of fries. They also have 4 styles of mayo at the condiment counter. I tried all 4z I could not put it all my meal away. The place opens at 10:45 and by 11. It’s pretty hopping in there. Though Tuesday are buy a pizza, get a pizza.
Tono is very good, I would order a to-go pizza or Philly at the St. Paul (former St. Clair Broiler RIP) location when we still lived in town. Wish there was one closer to us in Chisago.

I’ve tried Tono three times and I don’t like it. For some reason they put some sort of oil on the bread and grill it. I get a chemical flavor from whatever oil they use that I just don’t like at all.
I’ve been to Philly many times since my company was headquartered there. I still go every year. I LOVE cheesesteaks. I wanted to love Tono. I just can’t.
Im pretty sure you can ask for no oil. Cause it look as an option on the menu screen. Before I left I went to the bathroom and noticed some more condiments on another counter. I know I saw hot honey and I’m a fan of hot honey.
Last night I had food from Chimborazo for the first time. They feature Ecuadorian food and recently opened a second location, this one in St. Paul. Based on comments I saw on Yelp, I ordered the Lomo Saltado with beef, chicken, and shrimp. As advertised, it was extremely flavorful. I live close to the St. Paul location, so I will be returning to sample their other dishes. I encourage anyone curious to visit the Central Ave NE or the Lexington Ave locations. If you go, or have gone, please pass on any recommendations you have.
Didn’t disappoint. Only demerit was the bartender skipping the rest of Frampton’s solo on Do You Feel Like We Do to get to George Michael’s Father Figure.

This is how I know my brother-in-law is not working there, he’d never do that!
Their pickles are spectacular!

Hit up Serum’s today with my sister. Just as I remembered it. Tasty, tasty wings. Also, one of the cleanest and coldest tap Surly Furious’ I’ve had. Really caught me off guard.
As a parting gift to my folks, for our last dinner in Minnesota I grilled some wagyu rib
eyes (perfectly seared, medium rare on the inside) with mushrooms and peppercorn sauce, and Patti made some roasted potatoes and broccoli. Paired with some pinot noir it was the perfect ending.

Its a great classic Anoka Dive Bar with tremendous traditional wings owned by former Twins pitcher Gary “the truth” Serum!
