What’s with the big craze with the new black out license plates?!?!?! I’m seeing them more and more on vehicles.
I have one on my charcoal gray vehicle. The black plate looks clean and sharp, although I wish it didn't have the white border on it. I'm a license plate collector (yeah weird hobby, I know). I've been waiting years for Minnesota to offer a dark plate. The standard white plates have more or less not changed for over 40 years.
I have a small license plate collection in my garage. I even play the license plate game when I go on vacation…

Actually it’s a leader not a follower… but I actually prefer a lion over a sheep.

I wonder how many people had to google bellwether.

Like the Montana, Texas and Wyoming plates.

The black plate just makes me think antique car. Didn't those used to be all black?
I think you might be right. The black plate just makes me think antique car. Didn't those used to be all black?
I will admit the black plates are easier to read but I am not spending extra on license plates.

Not sure what they may have been, but they’ve been white background with black print for quite some time now.
@gator I wonder how many people had to google the difference between bellwether and trend setter.
Any 'Shark Tank' fans here? My wife and I have probably seen every episode a couple of times. And have bought close to a half dozen of the items.

From what I understand, back in the day MN used to give you a new plate every year and the plate for each year was a different color. You can see from Hockey Bum's photo that the 1955 plate was maroon with gold lettering (a beaut). My dad has a plate from 1953 which is black with white lettering. The black plate just makes me think antique car. Didn't those used to be all black?
Sheeple...seen this headline before.
I am the official Iowa Hawkeye football fan of GPL!

I find this common with sever states when I look for certain license plates. The year stamped on. Some I find a year stamped on followed by stickers of the year.

Here's a history lesson that no one asked for (from a plate collector/nerd). The last Minnesota white on black plate was indeed 1953. The last standard issue Minnesota plate that didn't have a white background was 1955 (the gold on maroon plate). With the exception of 1943 (due to WWII steel rationing), plates between 1920-1956 were issued annually and had a stamped year on them. The first 3 years (1909, 1910 and 1911), the plates were made of porcelain. Small steel year tabs were issued between 1957-1964, which attached to slots in the plate with metal wings. Stickers replaced the steel tabs in 1966.
General fun fact. 1956 was the last year that states had the discretion to make license plates any shape or size they wanted. Some states (including Minnesota) issued "shorties" for plates with lower numbers, presumably to save money on metal. Some states, most famously Tennessee, issued non-rectangular plates. Tennessee's plate was in the shape of the state. Auto manufacturers were frustrated because there was no universal place to put bolt holes on their cars. Starting in 1957, the government adopted the 6" x 12" standard, which forced all states to issue 6 x 12 plates with universal hole placement.
So is the equipment sale link not working for anyone else? Had two tickets picked out then since the “server can’t be found”. 🤬
edit looks like they snuck through but not the times I picked. So good luck if anyone else is trying!

Tickets weren’t available till 1pm I thought. I tried for the couple slots that would work for me and no dice.

Gopher score had earlier access. 😬
Does anyone have a family brand mark? With the 'Yellowstone' craze, I've seen lots a 'Y" gear. The brand mark for the Yellowstone Dutton Ranch. I have not seen an episode from start to finish. Though I've seen several highlight clips from episodes when I'm scrolling.
Our family brand is the 7HL mark. I don't know the full story behind it. Just when my folks were newly married, and my dad was a ranch hand on a family member's ranch in Kansas. And he took on the 7HL brand mark. Shortly after I was born, my parents couldn't raise a family on a ranch hand's budget and moved to Montana a to farm. And after my sister was born went into natural gas distribution.
So, several years ago, I had some 7HL decals made up to mark stuff with for fun. I'll use my metal engraver to engrave the mark on all my tools and belongings.

Glad to see the state look outside the box on 35w between Duluth and Hinkley. All the downed trees they chipped into mulch along both roadsides and median. Most times states just drag all the trees into piles to rot.
