Oh, I got #whamageddon’d like 12/2. Wasn’t paying any attention to the radio station the kid put on.
It was like the state fair but in winter. A glut of humanity and strollers everywhere 😂
But yes, it is quite a display they put together, especially considering it’s free and run on donations only.

I do want to make it up to Bentleyville, mainly because...well Duluth. Also to compare it to the Kiwanis Lights here in Mankato.
It is free to either drive through or walk through but they collect food and money donations that are distributed to local food shelves and non-profits. The set up and tear down of the lights are all volunteer done and the concession stand is volunteer run throughout the month. I helped one night in the concession stand on the 7th we had over a 1,000 people come through. We sold 390 bags of mini donuts!

Why did they even play this game
Aloha!
Holy 🤬, the Gopher Women beat Grambling by 32.
Grambling is just trying to rack up enough wins to get invited to the women's basketball version of the Quick Lane Bowl.

So the Washington Commanders and Capitals are getting a new stadium and arena to be played in Virginia, will they still be keep the name of Washington or change it to Virginia?

I suspect you mean Wizards & Caps. Given the Redskins/Commanders haven't played in DC for 20 years it probably won't change for hockey & hoops.

It would be a terrible marketing idea to change the name/identity form Washington to Virginia.

Yep. The Bills are the only NFL team in NY.

I think it's the equivalent to MNs knowing how many NHL teams are in WI. 😉 So, pbbbbbbbbt.

So when the team wins the Stanley cup I know they get the trophy to celebrate, in the NFL when they win the Vince Lombardi trophy each member of the team gets a Vince Lombardi trophy to keep on there own. Is this the same in the NHL owning a Stanley cup?
Aloha!
The winning team gets a version of the Cup to display. So the U of M wants a new Williams arena the Timberwolves want a new arena can they build one for both of them in the same arena?
Aloha!
I really doubt it. The U is going to want the arena to be under their control, so they get any revenue from other events, and will want it on campus. So the U of M wants a new Williams arena the Timberwolves want a new arena can they build one for both of them in the same arena?
The Timberwolves will want it under their control so they get all the additional revenue, and will want it closer to downtown.

What is wrong with the Target Center?
im not a basketball guy so I haven’t been there is ages. But it was just renovated.
What’s basketball?
😁
If a new arena for Gopher basketball is built I presume it would need to be on the site of Williams Arena. Besides basketball it would also need to house volleyball, wrestling, gymnastics, and probably other things I haven't considered. It would be a logistical nightmare for a couple years if they did go this route.
Just keep hockey out of any and all discussions.....I've already seen some chucklebrains on X suggest any new arena should include hockey and these morons need to be curb-stomped.

So many things...it has always been a cancer and always will be one. I think I heard once the guy who designed it never designed another arena again because it was so hated. (could be allegorical)
And I dont think there is any way they tear down Williams and rebuild...the project would screw up the area for too long and would cause logistical nightmares for every sport for at least 2 years. Plus they don't want to put it on the Williams site from what I heard they want it across the street meaning football will be doubly inconvenienced. I think they renovate but they then have to find a way to deal with the Pav. I asked this on ghole the other day and never got a response but, is Ridder multi-sport capable? That would solve a huge problem.
Target Center is BRUTAL for hockey.

Unless the Gophers could host a NCAA regional at their basketball arena there is no point to have it able to fit hockey.
Obviously those Twitter morons don't realize the U just pumped a bunch of money into both Ridder and Mariucci and will play there for decades to come.

It is not great but it is WAAAAY better than the Kohl Center. That said, why would the Timberwolves want (need) a new stadium? What additional revenue would they gain by building it? Target Center is in a great location and has been recently renovated.Target Center is BRUTAL for hockey.
They'd probably build something of similar size and sell a similar number of tickets.

But you’re not saying what’s wrong with it. You comment “so many things” and then don’t include a single example. I’m NOT goading you in particular, I just don’t get the Target hate. I thought the renovation fixed some original issues? And the players got an updated locker room and PT space. If it’s just the classic bitchfest over the location or whatever that’s not cause to tear down. EVERY team in EVERY sport is ALWAYS trying to pry more money out of the coffers, it doesn’t mean the arena is crap. No one is going to say, oh no we’re good we don’t need any free money!

So...
Target Center: If the Wolves get a new arena. Do the Wolves play at USB or the 'X' for 2 years while they build a new stadium on same footprint as the Target Center. Cause the Target Center is in ideal spot in downtown Mpls. Or do they build elsewhere?
Williams Arena: If they build a multi sport arena elsewhere on campus, does Williams Arena fall under a historical site and "can't" demolished. So the 'U' could still use it for sporting events.

One big problem is that the slope for the seating is very gradual, and goes too far back on the lower level.

If you read Seifert's final article for the Strib years ago. He alluded to Carl Gerbschmidt.
I know that... though he's has been the front runner and it has never been said for sure who it is. I was just curious if I missed something while at work on the radio.

Well the sound quality has always been suspect. I have seen many sports and concerts there and...well...depending where you are (and I have sat all over the place) you might not know there is someone singing because of the awful acoustics. Not US Bank Stadium bad but bad nonetheless. Hell I was there this past summer and the reno changed very little about it.
I never had an issue with the location so that is not it at all. I will say that the method of entering and exiting the arena is full on stupid and is overly complicated for no reason.
The problem is that it is quite dated, and that was the case when it first opened. The amenities stink, the suites are pretty blah, the seats are often uncomfortable and sightlines vary widely depending on quite a few factors. The best you can really say is it is ok for basketball, but it is nothing special and no reno short of a full on facelift and gutting will really fix it. It is just rather generic and mediocre and my guess is the Wolves are leaving a lot of money on the table because of it. It is the very basic of what is needed...kind of like what the San Diego Chargers had which caused them to leave. (ok not that bad but in the same vein)
Some of it is hard to explain, but put it this way...some stadiums or arenas are built and 30 years later they are still great! Target Center was never great and almost 40 years later it is exactly the same as it was.
Does that help a bit?
Williams Arena I go back and forth on. I love The Barn, been going there since I was a kid. I had season tickets for a season not too long ago but never renewed them...and not cause the team sucked but because the gameday experience friggin sucked. There are HS arenas that are better in some ways than Williams. It hasn't changed at all probably since my dad went to the U. The concourses are a death trap, there is obstructed view seats all over the place, the concessions are hideous, the bathrooms are few and far between and good lord the seating is just dumb. With that said I don't want it torn down because I am nostalgic (unlike TC which there is zero nostalgia for) buit from what I have heard over the years a full gutting would be almost as costly as a rebuild and could be a mess for a couple of years at least. It is a mess.
Okay, that makes a better picture. I’ve only been there twice, never for a concert, and we had decent seats sight wise. Mariucci sound sucks too, even after the last redo. They at least now CC their spots on the scoreboard, the player interviews or fun spoofs were a joke, we couldn’t hear a single word. The team with the best concessions is the Twins! Sorry, but again Mariucci has tanked in that area. They must be asking waaaaay to much in fees as several long standing places are gone. I want my gyros back!

I'm probably in the minority with this, but I feel Thiesing spear on Snuggerud is being overblown. Yes it was bush league and uncalled for. Yes he got one game suspension and probably could have gotten a second. Yes it was done to a Gopher and people are looking at this though maroon and gold shaded glasses. Though the stuff I see people posting on social media is mind bobbling. Suspend him for the season, ban him from hockey, strip him from his "C". Come on, it's hockey not the ice compadres. Stuff like this happens in hockey and will continue. I guarantee if this was reversed and it was Snuggerud spearing Thiesing that vast majority of Gopher fans who are going nuts over Thiesing would feel different about Snuggerud.
Keep your stick on the ice...
Banning from hockey for one incident is definitely way too much. Coach stripping him of his C, I could definitely see. That kind of thing is uncalled for, and to have a "leader" of the team involved in that kind of stupidity isn't good. Should absolutely have had at least one additional game suspension. If it had been out on the ice, I'd say the one game is probably enough, skating and spearing someone that's on the bench needs more.

The on the bench part means it should have been at least an additional game in my opinion. It wasn't a heat of the moment thing, he thought about it, skated over, and did it.
Plus I saw a post on social medial praising the team for holding Snuggerud back with all their might. The team didn't hold him back. Moore put his arm up to push Snuggerud back a tad. If Snuggerud really wanted to, he could've leaped over the boards.

That's where I thought he might get a second game. Though the stripping of the "C" and banning from the game is way off the charts.

The thinking about it and doing it anyway is an argument to lose the C. Leaders on teams need to NOT make those kind of considered decisions.
Banning from the game is, of course, absurd.
