I have been to Mexico several times. Vegas, Disney World, Aruba, AZ, etc. My favorite vacation spot will always be on a lake in northern MN, specifically our cabin now.

Vacations....

Probably Singapore. Completely fell in love with that city. Would go back in a heartbeat.

2nd was probably our recent trip to Europe; Luxembourg, Belgium, and the Normandy and Loire Valley regions of France.

Favorite vacation: One of the trips we went to Thailand I was lucky enough to con my boss into a 3-week vacation. We were able to go to Koh Samed, Rayong, Pattaya, Jua Jin, took a train to Chiang Mai, spent 2 nights in a "hotel" in the jungle, and still managed to have several days in Bangkok.

Nova Scotia. Took my dad and his brother there back in '98. Pops was given 6mos to a year and a half to live a year before due to cancer. That time and what I learned about my family tree "top branch" was priceless.

We plan on taking a motorcycle trip soon there. I have a buddy from Thunder Bay & they moved there to eventually retire. Having a "base" is nice when on 2 wheels

My buddy and I had a huge trip to Thailand planned and just before we could finalize the trip, the tsunami hit. We had to change plans and since the whole Pacific and Indian Ocean regions were F’d we went to Alaska. Not. The. Same.

We both got married not long after and my wife has no interest in traveling to Asia. My dream trip may never come.

What is your favorite vacation? One time trip you made? An annual spot? Not a dream trip, something you’ve actually taken.

Mine is Italy. I LOVE Italy, all of it. The food, the wine, the sites, the people. Been to Rome, Milan, Venice, Florence and the Dolomite region. I want to move to Italy for at least 6 months and really live. Hubby is welcome to join me :good2:

Not sure I have a favorite. Outside of the US I’ve done Maui, Antigua, and Aruba. All were fantastic!

The Frozen Four is our “vacation” every year. Tampa and Denver have probably been the best.

Anchorage was a damn good regular season trip.

Besides the FF our summer trip to the UP has become an annual tradition. Definitely one of my favorite places.

I spent a couple summers in the Teton Valley of Idaho. It has changed drastically since my first trip in 2000; instead of cattle ranches it is now house farms of people wanting a mountain view. But there are soooo many amazing hikes and places off the grid to visit out there.

This country (and world) has so many amazing places to visit.

I'm sure Alaska was amazing, but yeah a 180 degree vibe turnaround to SE Asia. It's too bad she has no interest. Maybe some pictures of the beaches would help. :)

I've always wanted to travel to Asia, but my wife also had no interest. She's a microbiologist and fears such densely populated areas with loosely regulated markets. I was making some headway on getting her into the idea, but then...

I guess I would have to count Cozumel as my favorite vacation. Me, my (now) wife, and two other couples spend 5 days at an all-inclusive resort. The other guys and I spent a day on a 25 ft fishing boat, and that evening, one of restaurants cooked our catch - one of the best seafood dinners I've ever had. Another day, we took the ferry across to Cancun, and then took a bus down to the Mayan ruins at Tulum. Overall, a nice vacation, but what really made it stand out was

What’s the best gift you’ve ever received?

I mentioned my favorite book in an earlier post. A childhood treasure Miss Happiness and Miss Flower. I checked this book out over and over from the library. Every page was memorized. About 10 years ago my Sister in Law handed me a Christmas gift. I unwrapped it and it was The Book! Exact same version from my childhood, same cover, same end paper design. It was an old library book that had been taken out of circulation and she bought it at a library fundraiser. I burst into tears. I’m NOT a crier but it was the kindest gift anyone had ever given me.

A CD that had a hand-painted M logo, maroon and gold, to use as a Christmas tree ornament, from someone who I let crash at my place during a past Final Five. It's the best because it was handmade, something simple, and was genuine. They took the time to create that gift. :)

Best gift I’ve ever gotten is season tickets to Gopher Hockey as a wedding gift. A friend of mine had connections to the U of M athletic department and was able to gift me one season of Gopher Hockey tickets. Of course we went on our honeymoon while the Gophers hosted WI and Danny Irmen scores on a penalty shot.

Second best gift is a game worn authentic Gopher Hockey jersey from same friend.

Best vacation has to be studying abroad in London. If any of you have kids I encourage them to do it no matter the destination. Best decision I’ve ever made in my life. Six months of studying and exploring. Went to 13 countries during my six months abroad and got to live in one of the most vibrant, interesting cities in the world. It also wetted my appetite for intl travel which has now included going to Europe multiple times and Africa and Asia twice.

If you go to smaller towns in Asia it may be better for her. All major towns are definitely crowded and very dense. I have to say of each continent I’ve been to Asia is my favorite. I love the dynamism of it all where the new world meets the ancient traditions. Vietnam is where I want to go next. Ha Long Bay has long been at the top of my go to list. Nepal is up there too.

Try and do Ha Long off season! It is a f’ing circus otherwise. We went in Feb and ended up on a traditional day junk, just the 2 of us with captain and his wife. She made a multi-course seafood meal that still ranks near the top. Because it was just us we really got to talk to them and ended up sharing some Mekong whiskey! Whiskey was horrible but the friendship was fantastic.

Oh that sounds tremendous. Very good to know. I’m a huge fan of top gear and have wanted to visit ‘Nam since I watched their Vietnam special. There’s a floating bar in the bay called Bar Hang that looks like the coolest bar in the world.

Guessing you meant the ferry to Playa del Carmen, otherwise that would be a longggg ferry ride and a long bus ride to Tulum.

Cozumel was definitely a paradise when I was there.

The thing we loved most about Thailand is that it was so different from anywhere we had been. We were there 17 days and the 3 or 4 we spent in Bangkok was more than enough. We went to a bunch of smaller places since we essentially were on a bus from Chiang Mai to Bangkok and they were all really cool.

I would likely answer that question differently from time to time, but more often than not when I see it asked my answer is most often Comfortably Numb. And even though it doesn't include Roger Waters, their live version from Pulse is freaking sick.

I can't name a single favorite, but "Help" by The Beatles would probably pop into my head more often than not on the spur of the moment. I've gotten reacquainted with "Kiss Them for Me" by Siouxsie and the Banshees recently. And Andrea Bocelli singing anything.

It is always shifting. Over time though, what Slap Shot said. "The child has grown, the dream is gone" gets me every time.

Right now at this moment it is the below song. Been a regular in the rotation since his passing last week.

I don't have a favorite song, or even a favorite singer. However, Merle, Waylon, Johnny, the Possum, Alan Jackson, King George Strait, and Jimmy Buffett rank high on the list.

My tastes are always evolving so it's difficult to choose a favorite song, but one that has stood the test of time for me is God Only Knows by The Beach Boys.

This past month has been difficult, so I've been listening to "Get Lucky" by Mark Knopfler a lot recently, for some much needed optimism. No... it's not the same as the crappy Daft Punk song with the same title. 😡

There are so many choices but Rock the Casbah by the Clash has always been up there. Love Rocky Racoon by the Beatles too. In the newer era I’ve always loved Still Dre by Dr. Dre and anything from Tame Impala. Saw Tame live last August and it was tremendous.

Best concert: ELO at the Xcel.

Not my favorite anymore, but WAY back when I was 12 I bought my first ever 45 (for 99 cents, which is probably like $10 today!):

Surfin' Safari, by the Beach Boys.

So at the time that was obviously my favorite!

Without googling, anyone here know what song was on the flip side?

Guessing either "409" or "Little Deuce Coupe". I think in the early days they had a surfing song on side A, and car song on side B.

No possible way for me to answer this question. I like pretty much all genres of music except for pop country.

It might be better to list the genres and put a favorite song from each one of those. I am to lazy to do it today.

Even with a fave from each genre, that changes for me, depending on my mood.

I guess I'll go with one song I can never turn off/skip: "Apache" by The Incredible Bongo Band. Greatest "break beat" ever. Starts at 2:20.

His and Metallica's version are really good. His is more tired/worn out, while Metallica's version channels the rage.

Great way to describe the difference between the versions. Which one is better really depends on my mood.

Mo def on the mood. If I'm at home, it's most likely Seger's version. On the road? It's Metallica's. It really is amazing hearing difference in covers, on what the artist wants to portray, in combination with the original, etc etc etc. Tone makes such a difference. Sometimes it's night and day.

When you tell somebody somethin', it depends on what part of the United States you're standin' in... as to just how dumb you are.

Most likely for me "on the road" means on the bike, so, definitely Metallica for that. And yes, some covers can be really good. Others, of course, not so much.

B1G refs... corrupt, or just incompetent?

Well, for comparison:

My Way by Sinatra, vs the cover by the Sex Pistols, vs the cover by the Gipsy Kings. ;)
