I forgot about Super Chexx bubble hockey. Before my friends and I could drive we'd take our mopeds to Ridgedale and hit up Orange Droolius, Taco Bell, Musicland, Spencer Gifts and Picadilly Circus and Super Chexx dominated our time in the arcade.
One house in Kato I lived in for 2 years (named The Judges Chamber - all party houses had names back then) had a pool table, 3 bars, a kegerator and CO2 line to the basement for an additional tap, as well as speaker wires from my bedroom to the basement so the music we played was the same upstairs and down. One party with 8 kegs and 2-shots for $1 was enough to pay for our rent each month.
I can smell it now. Gross. I can’t even imagine the cleanup.
Did you ever have a party without cleaning up puke?
Sure. We controlled crowd size by selling tickets in advance to only 150 people at $5 each - 60 guy tickets and 90 girl tickets. For shots we'd buy just a few 1.75's of crap like root beer schnapps. Nothing too hard core such as tequila or jack.
We laid cardboard down in the kitchen and main living space and moved out all furniture excpet for some chairs. We had a 3-season porch as well that again we had nothing in it to break or ruin. The party space in the basement was cement walls and cement floors. Upstairs was off limits because you needed a key to access the stairwell, and both bedrooms on the main floor were also locked.
Now these were parties so stuff happens but nothing that outrageous.
Many parties at tUMD were in the basements of houses, which were unfinished and simple concrete floors. Next day, out comes the garden hose to wash it wall away down the drain.
Sounds like a bunch of lightweights to me. Nothing cool about not handling your liquor.

Agreed. It's really hard to know where your personal limit actually is without having passed that point at least once. And, low 20s in college (yes, I'm sure there were 18/19 year olds there too) seems to be a reasonable point to be figuring that out. Having the forethought to understand what can happen, and setting up the environment so that it's easy to clean up from sounds like proper planning to me.
B1G refs... corrupt, or just incompetent?
Yep. You have to take into account ABV (especially these days with the massive range of craft beer), pacing, hydration, food, how tired you are, all of that. You don't know that when you're a frosh at college, usually.
When you tell somebody somethin', it depends on what part of the United States you're standin' in... as to just how dumb you are.

We bounced lightweights in high school from the parties we had. I know those pukefests were your glory days though.

No, they weren't. I could probably count on one hand the number of times I've puked, and that'd still be too high of a guess.

Age has a lot to do with it too. I can’t believe how much changed when I turned 40. Being tired NEVER affected me, now if I am tired I can pretty much guarantee if I have more than 4-5 beers, everything becomes foggy.

I actually get some ribbing from my local brewery b/c of how slow I drink beer. I'll have an ounce or two left, and they'll ask what I want next. I reply, "I'm good, I'll let you know." (btw, proper protocol on the servers). If I have a good 10% 25 oz bottle, it'll take me an entire hockey game to drink it, 6oz or so at a time. Refill between pregame/periods.
I want to enjoy the beer at hand, not slam it.

I'm finding it much harder to drink the 750s I have because of the time. I usually wait until the kids are in bed (usually the little one is finally down by 8:45) and even a good two hour movie still isn't enough time if I want to feel OK in the morning.
Getting old sucks
Drinking to the point of puking is just dumb.
Doing it with beer? Bloat City.
As a Jr w/ anorher Jr / teammate / roomie we moved in with 3 Sr teammates & a Sr BB player in a farmhouse just out side of town. We held a kegger last Sat of the month to also raise rent. We barely had running water but the place would be solid bodies in the LR & kitchen
How it didn't collapse is beyond me.
The drive and the gravel road to the highway totalled 1/2 mile in length. That year we had a going away yard party after the spring game where cars were on both shoulders to the highway.
We all turned out okay and if you went to achool in Princeton or Jordan MN.....My lips are sealed cuz they still are great people
I started as a lightweight, like most. Quickly got a mean tolerance, then developed into a lightweight again. My 37 year old organs communicate to me very clearly.
This crossed my mind while watching the Jordan stuff but what's the most you've ever gambled in a single bet?
I am not much of a gambler (I don't mean never but I can go years with a single bet, slot arm pull, double-down...)
When I was into online poker (Bovada) I entered a $250 buy-in tournament. I don't recall how many people entered but I finished high enough to win enough to cover the bet. Nothing very exciting or extravagent.
On a single bet in a poker hand I had gone all in with about $350 (was invested about $100 prior to going all in). That's the most I've ever thrown into a pot.
Blackjack? Probably $50. Sports betting I'd guess in the neighborhood of $100.
I did enter a poker tournament for $200, if that counts as a bet.
Saw this on Facebook today and thought it was an interesting question:
Who is your favorite superhero/Who was it when you were growing up?
Mine now is probably The Punisher (Netflix series) or Deadpool (movies). Never really read any comics growing up but I loved TMNT in my youth.
I'd maybe go with Spider Man now, and when I was a kid it was probably Superman although I've never had strong feelings about it and I've never read a comic book.
Thor and Thor.
I would say Superman and Thor...
I remember seeing the original Christopher Reeve Superman at the Southtown theater in 1978. That was when Southtown was still a single theater with 1100 seats and a HUGE screen. It was quite the experience... And how can you not love Thor?

I was big into comics in my youth and enjoy a lot of the comic based movies in my old age.
Marvel: Captain America
DC: The Martian Manhunter
Off the beaten path: The Fat Fury
None and none. I have never been a fan of superhero stuff. I have never read a comic book. I think the last superhero movie I saw was the batman movie where they threatened to blow up the Steelers stadium. It's been a while.
I could care less about superheroes now. When I was a kid I was a huge fan of the Fantastic Four and Silver Surfer.

We did too also at Southtown! It was a such a big deal then for the whole family and all 5 of us went and what an event it was. For Star Wars it was just friends - my parents had no desire for those.

I’m not into superheroes or comics, I’ve seen the old Superman and Batman movies (think 80s and 90s) but very little recently apart from Deadpool and Wonder Woman. I have no idea how I stumbled into the Punisher series on Netflix but I really enjoyed it.
Growing up, Superman. In my teens, Batman (Keaton's version was good, Bale's was outstanding).
Now, I'm like Cowgirl. The Kick-Ass, Deadpool, and Wonder Woman are ones I've really liked. And to be honest, I didn't know beforehand that KA and Deadpool were actual comic characters. I thought it was basically "in the style of" comic book movies.

I have never read a comic in my life and probably never will, but have enjoyed the movies I’ve seen in the MCU. That first Guardians movie is hands down my favourite. The soundtrack is phenomenal.

I've always liked Superman, Batman, Spiderman, and Daredevil. Loved the first two Reeve Superman movies. Did not like first Cavill Superman movie and have not seen any of the others he is in. I'm no superhero junkie but personally I just don't see Superman as a dark, brooding character. I thought it was a mistake to go that direction. Reeve captured my image of Superman perfectly.

Having Gene Hackman (my favorite actor) and Ned Beatty as the bad guys helped make that a really fun series.

Superman II is one of my favorite superhero movies of all time. 3rd one was awful. Never saw the 4th one.
Fun fact: Superman and Superman II were both written by Mario Puzo who also wrote the Godfather series.
Agreed on Superman. Leave the brooding to Batman.
GE brings up another good question: Favorite villain?
Growing up it was Loki and Ra's al Ghul. Dafoe' s Green Goblin was fun for the memes. Thanos is good for those too. I really liked Keaton's Vulture in Spider-Man: Homecoming.
Ledger's Joker was outstanding obviously.

As a kid in the 70s there is no greater villain than the man himself, Darth Vador.

The Joker (Heath Ledger version) is #1 for me (basing all of these on movies).
Others that I thought were outstanding:
Killmonger (Black Panther)
Loki (Hiddleston is great as Loki)
Thanos
Hela (Thor Ragnarok)
Vulture and Mysterio (Spiderman Homecoming and FFH)
Winter Soldier
Ledger was just so unbelievably good as Joker that these others don't really stand up to his performance. Though I love what Brolin did with Thanos.
Nobody is going to mention Danny Devito’s Penguin?

Superman IV might be the worst movie of all time. I would actually watch Caddyshack II before I ever tried to stomach S4 again.

I remember seeing a clip of it somewhere. Superman was fighting some bad guy on the moon (?) and it looked like it was a comedic spoof of an actual superhero movie.
As far as villains go, I really enjoyed Vincent D'onofrio's take as Kingpin on the Netflix version of Daredevil.

Yes that's about it. Not sure I've ever seen a "franchise" in it's current form take such a dive from near perfection to something that was at best a caricature of itself.

I'm pretty sure Superman IV was Golun-Globus production. They were big producers back in the 80's (i think) that just churned out movie after movie without any interest in quality.
Superman III was so bad it's hilarious. Superman IV is horrid.
And blame the studios for wanting more humor in the franchise at the time (hence Hackman and Beatty). The Donner Cut of Superman II is sooooooooooo much better than what they originally released (not that the original II cut is that bad...Donner's was that much better).

If you could hangout at a campfire with anyone alive or dead, heck share a few bottles if you want.
I'd like to meet Hemiunu who is believed to be the designer of the Great Pyramid, was a member of the royal court and was so important his tomb lies close to Khufu's pyramid. The downside is no one knows for certain he was the designer. Can you imagine getting your one chance to meet someone like this, then you find out he had nothing to do with it? Probably still have some killer stories though.
