I’d rather cheer for the Wisconsin BADgers than ever eat a Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup. Chocolate and peanut butter are fine separated but mixed is an atrocity.

That’s crazy! I would much rather eat all the foods I hate than cheer for red or green!

Yep....

Don't click the link to the thread. You should be good to go!

Should have added a winkie after my question. All that talk about candy and chocolate was expanding my waistline!

I didn’t believe someone could dislike cheese and chocolate.

Yep. I like cheese on pizza and Italian food. That’s it

I only like chocolate in smaller amounts like chocolate chip cookies/ice cream. No chocolate candy bars or pure chocolate for me.

No cheeseburgers, cheesesteaks, or bacon, egg, and cheese biscuits?

No cheese on your tacos or burritos? Have you been introduced to a proper queso dip?

Blue cheese dressing on buffalo wings? Mozzarella sticks? Potato boats?

When your chili is hot, what do you put on top?

How do you feel about cheesecake?

Not even AU GRATIN POTATOES? :ahhh:

This "no cheese" thing has me baffled. Is it taste or texture? Cheese covers such a broad range of tastes I don't know how someone can dislike the taste of all cheeses. Same with texture. Is it just that the first three kinds of cheese they tried didn't taste good or feel right? What about the other dozens of cheeses that taste and feel completely different? There are varieties of cheese I don't like, some are tolerable and others I love, same with the texture.

Hey, saw the ice from the big M was making its somewhat annual journey ashore. Any damage at your place?

None. We are in Wahkon Bay and the 2 big points that create the bay and Half Moon Island at the mouth of it take the abuse. I came up here yesterday expecting to see serious damage at Izatys but nothing really.

Big Point north of Isle took a serious whooping though.

The wind came out of the NW and created some high piles of ice cakes. The main lake ice sheet was still semi-intact so the wind could get some traction. Normally the ice is in crystal shards a foot or so long and half an inch in diameter.

I've stayed at Chapman's in Isle several times, and they just had Tina on TV talking about the ice.

Happy to hear! I knew you were on the south side and would hate for the fancy new place to get baptized that way.

We put it in the break room and all day people stopped in and cut off a chunk, it’s amazing how MUCH candy a Nut Roll 10 lbs equals Shock

When I was in college, at a hockey game, I won Nuttiest Fan of the game and they gave us a 5 lb. nut roll as a prize. We basically unwrapped it and then proceeded to throw it around the student section with people ripping and biting pieces off.

When I have been volunteer at a couple silent auctions for non-profits, Pearson's donates a lot of them. I have a seen a 10 lb. and a 25 lb. nut roll.

What’s the worst advice you’ve ever received?

I was very much discouraged from studying overseas when I was first in college. I regretted it immediately. Since then I’ve more then made up for it by my travels but I’d still like to live somewhere again for about 6 months. Not be a tourist but more day to day living. I choose Florence Italy.

I really wish I would have studied abroad. Big regret from college and at the time, didn't know if I could fit it in without missing a whole year of coursework based on the schedul needed for engineering. Also, I thought i would miss too much with friends and stuff at school, but turns out nothing would have been missed.

You can make up for now by traveling, but traveling on a budget and having no responsibilities is very different now vs. college.

That's what I thought I remembered. It's not that the peep fell off... he was forcibly removed.

I finished the Grandmas half marathon in Duluth right behind John Shuster, skip of the US curling team, a few months after they won gold in South Korea. After we received our medals and were waiting for the post-race snack I patted on the back and said “Good job Shuster.” Mostly for the gold medal and not the race. He replied with “Thanks man.” And that’s my story.

Many years ago a friend and I went to the Trent Tucker celebrity golf tournament at Rush Creek. We were standing behind the green on one of the early holes and saw 4-5 guys leave themselves 30 feet or more back to the cup. Everyone of the guys missed the putt well to the right.

The group Scottie Pippen was in comes along and he's on the far back end of the green. Being a young smart a$$ I say loud enough for him to hear to give it 6 more inches of break than it looks. He gave me a bit of a "what do you know" look and then drains the putt center cup. He turns around, walks over to my buddy and I, shakes our hand and says thanks with a huge grin on his face. Then he told us not to tell Michael Jordan (who was a couple groups behind) if he ends up in that part of the green.

My wife and I have volunteered at some large local charity events and have had several brushes with celebrities (if you want to include local media personalities). Here is a quick summary

Awesome people

1. Kirby Puckett

2. Eddy Murray

3. John Gordon (WCCO Radio. One of THE NICEST people I have ever met)

4. Roy Smalley

5. Jesse Ventura (had a great one-on-one conversation with him at Kent Hrbek Fishing event)

6. Chad Greenway

Kind of standoff-ish

1. Paul Molitor

2. Jack Morris

3. Dick Bremer (acted like kind of a big deal)

4. Marney Gellner (same as Dick Bremer)

5. Randy Shaver

6. Jeremy Roenick

7. Kent Hrbek

My brother-in-law directs TV commercials for a living and has worked with a lot of big name celebrities. He said the following were great to work with and were really nice.

1. Brittney Spears

2. William Shatner (couldn't say enough great things about him)

3. Deion Sanders

4. Apolo Ohno

5. Bert Blyleven

The one story that he tells that really stands out to me is his story about Shaq. They were shooting a commercial and there was a gal working at the front desk of the hotel they were staying at. Somehow it came up that this gal had a son who had dwarfism and she had a very hard time finding shoes small enough for him that still offered support (no support in baby shoes). Shaq heard about this and called up his shoe sponsor and told them to set this woman up with whatever shoes her son needed, even if it involved being custom made.

I saw Drew Brees at a grocery store in Minneapolis during Super Bowl week. I told him how cool it was to meet him in person, but I didn’t want to be a douche and bother him and ask him for photos or anything.

He said, “Oh, like you’re doing now?”

I was taken aback, and all I could say was “Huh?” but he kept cutting me off and going “huh? huh? huh?” and closing his hand shut in front of my face. I walked away and continued with my shopping, and I heard him chuckle as I walked off. When I came to pay for my stuff up front I saw him trying to walk out the doors with like fifteen Milky Ways in his hands without paying.

The girl at the counter was very nice about it and professional, and was like “Sir, you need to pay for those first.” At first he kept pretending to be tired and not hear her, but eventually turned back around and brought them to the counter.

When she took one of the bars and started scanning it multiple times, he stopped her and told her to scan them each individually “to prevent any electrical infetterence,” and then turned around and winked at me. I don’t even think that’s a word. After she scanned each bar and put them in a bag and started to say the price, he kept interrupting her by yawning really loudly.

Just kidding. I saw him at Manny’s the night before the Super Bowl. As he walked by to a back room, we were waiting in the lobby for our table, I said “hey Drew” and put my hand up for a high five; he smiled and gave me a high five!

When I was in college I lived in an apartment at the corner of 8th ave and 4th st SE. After the last final of Winter Quarter I met friends at the Big Ten Bar for beers. After closing I walked home alone. As I'm passing the Gopher Motel, a white haired man dressed in a suit calls out from the lobby, "Wait up young man." I stood on the sidewalk as he walked up to me. When he got close I realized he was Eddie Albert (star of Green Acres.) He points to the IDS tower downtown and asks me how far it is and if it's safe to walk there. I told him he better call a cab. So he says "Where's there a phone around here?" I told him he could come to my apartment a block away. He says OK. As we're walking I ask him what he's doing at the Gopher Motel at 1 AM. He says "Visiting Friends." Anyway just as we get near my place he sees a sign outside Ralph and Jerry's Market that says "Phone Inside." So he thanks me and goes in to use their phone. I stood outside a couple minutes to make sure he got a hold of a cab. While I'm out there these 2 hippies come out with a bag of Cheetos. One says to the other "Hey Man, that was Eddie Albert."

I forgot one. Back in the early 90’s I was working at the MOA when it first opened at a store called BareBones. It was a science store that specialized in fun and educational products relating to the human body. It got a lot of national attention. Arnold Schwarzenegger, Ralph Nader, and Macaulay Caulkin were a few of the big names that stopped in. Didn’t chat or engage with any of them.

However one night there was this grungy couple in the store. They were looking to buy a lot of our very expensive anatomical models. The guy was nice but shy and the gal was quite the opposite. Loud and kind of bitchy. They ended up buying and ordering about $10K in anatomical models. The guy pulls out his AmEx card. Sure enough...Curt Cobain. He was with Courtney Love. They were in the process of recording their In Utero album down in Cannon Falls. Some of the anatomical models they bought ended up in pictures on the CD insert for In Utero. Unfortunately I was not credited anywhere on on the CD ;)

p.s. I’m not one who ever gets really star struck. I do like hearing if famous people are cool or jerks though. When I meet someone famous I try to steer the conversation away from their given field/occupation and talk about other unrelated things. I find they tend to like that.

I’ve got to meet and work with famous people in line with my job. But my favorite story involves Quentin Tarantino. I’ve told this story to a couple of GPLers privately. Once I got to go to dinner with him and others at Musso and Franks in LA. It’s his favorite restaurant and the opening scene in Once Upon a Time in Hollywood is there as a love letter. M&F is famous for their martinis. I’m not a big drinker, really a lightweight, one cocktail maybe two is my limit. That night the martinis kept coming to the table on the house. I was soused. I know I was drunk because when the ancient waiter called me “little lady” I think I giggled. Normally I’d be up on a high horse about that. Plus Quentin commented he liked the fact I’d ordered a steak. No LA female salad with the dressing on the side. You’re at Musso and Franks. Get the GD steak. (Besides, Q was paying Wink )

Back in the 80's wife and I were skiing at Aspen and Robert Redford and his companion boarded the chair right in front of us. Wife was going crazy all the way up the mountain! After disembarking they were still there at the top, and we just exchanged hi's...didn't want to bother them too much.

I’m sure you’ve got a few more stories than that. Would love to hear who is amazingly nice and also horribly a jerk.

I kept reading more and thinking really?...no way...really what a douche. I’m so glad that’s not true, but you had me hook, line, and sinker.

That. Is Cool! Knowing M&F and QT's affection for old school Hollywood I can see him being drawn there.

LOVE that place. My great-uncle was a regular a Musso & Franks, I had the chance to go once when I was around 14 when he brought our family there for dinner. My Uncle actually had one of their old school charge plates, I can't remember how many they gave out but it was a really low number. Maybe under couple hundred. I remember sitting down and shortly after the (ancient) waiter came to take our drink orders, but only us non regulars as he dropped off a Chardonnay from my aunt and a Beefeater Martini, Vermouth on the side, for my uncle before taking our order. M&F made a huge impression on me even then.

I hear so many good stories about Shaq and none to the contrary.

Too bad the NBA rigged the draft for Orlando.

I didn’t realise Shaq has an MBA and a doctorate until about a year ago. These aren’t honorary degrees by the way. He wanted to help manage his business interests after he retired from the nba to keep him ‘set’ for life. I think he’s also one of the highest paid DJs in the world. My roommate is a huge fan of his so I know way more than I need to about Shaq, but the more I learn the more I think what a cool dude.

You can make up for now by traveling, but traveling on a budget and having no responsibilities is very different now vs. college.

While it’s not a full semester (or year) studying abroad kind of deal, those attending the Carlson Business School at the U have a 5-6 week studying abroad opportunity built into their curriculum and my son (who graduated in 2015) chose to study in Australia, which he really enjoyed ?

I got a Shaq story too. Thanksgiving 1991, my sister had just moved out to Vegas after college and I go out to visit her (my first trip ever to Vegas). I'm 17, a senior in high school, standing a 5'-7" tall. My sister and I are at Ceasar's Palace just because I'd never been there before. As we were leaving the casino the LSU men's basketball team arrives, in town for a game against UNLV (y'all remember J.R. Rider right??). Next thing I know I'm walking past 7'-1" Shaquille O'Neal when I instinctively say, "Good luck tomorrow night". His response? "Hey thanks, kid". I chuckle to this day at his response because he was only 2 years & 2 months older than me. But when you're 7'-1" tall everyone else looks like a kid to you.

In the '90s I was hiring engineers. I did a trip to Purdue (hired someone from that trip) We stayed at the Union Hotel on campus. The same time I was there, it was the end of a multi-year major fundraising drive. The figurehead for that was Neil Armstrong. (I was 9 years old for the moon landing and had a telescope and all of the models for the space program.) I knew he was also staying at the hotel, so I grabbed a book and sat in the lobby. After a while, a group of people came in, and he was there. I stood up and watched as he went by. That was all the 'meeting' I needed.

The usual rando getting an NHLer to sign some stuff after a game. Old Met Center, BUF vs MN.

Met Grant Fuhr and Dale Hawerchuk. Got a pennant signed by them. Dale didn't really say anything, Grant talked at length with the fans. Total class act. Also pissed off Mike Modano and Darcy Wakaluk that night. Madonna for being a pretty boy, and Darcy for taking over Jon Casey's job (who was one of the goalies I styled my play after). Both of the North Stars players threw down my program in disgust. Mission accomplished.*

*Note: I LOVED the North Stars, except for those two players.

Rick Aguilera and Paul Molitor were two of the nicest ballplayers I've ever met. I went with a guy I knew in the dorms to get autographs at the dome once & Molitor was walking out with a huge bag of fan mail. He left it with one of the security guys and spent 30 minutes signing and talking to people. I gave Aguilera an older baseball card of him and he grinned and told me "Damn i was good looking then wasn't I?" and formally introduced himself like I had no idea who he was.

I tried to get Ken Griffey Jr's autograph when I was staying at the same hotel for a college event in Detroit. He was polite but declined. I thought about trying to ask Randy Johnson, but he just flat out scared me.

I rarely interacted with actors, mostly directors. But as mentioned by someone else, William Shatner is very nice, totally charming and one of the funniest people. A real raconteur, he can spin a story that keeps you hooked.

In spite of my Quentin story, he’s an ass. I won’t go so far as a horrible jerk but he was not easy to work with. On the opposite side was Clint Eastwood, he was a dream. Always polite, always Uber-prepared, always a kind word. He was tough in that he expected you to do your job, no excuses, but he was a real leader. He had most of his crew return film after film, they were equally devoted. He is the only director who gave me a credit in his films. I’m one of those names that speed by at a fast clip at the very end, but he included me. I’m a loyal Eastwood fan, even if I hated his last one Richard Jewel. I did NOT work on that!

I can truthfully say that I wouldn’t be alive today if it weren’t for former Denver Pioneer Anthony Maiani.

To this date, I cannot fathom why I received an invitation to Danny Kristo’s high school grad party.

I tried to recruit a local TV news personality to a cult.
