GAA is a perfectly good indicator, just as a team stat, not individual. Yes, I realize it's always used as an individual stat, in that aspect, it can be very misleading.A 92% save percentage is nothing to sneeze at. Feels like if you put enough at it, something will sneak in.
That's why I always felt that GAA was very misleading. "4 goals against?!" Well, if that's on 50 shots a game, that's pretty good.
B1G refs... corrupt, or just incompetent?
Team stat, I'll concede that point.
When you tell somebody somethin', it depends on what part of the United States you're standin' in... as to just how dumb you are.
Here is how the former Gopher portal players are doing--
Cruikshank-- 9 goals 5 assists in 11 games for SCSU
Perbex-- 1 goal and 6 assists in 12 games for Western Mich
Sorenson-- 4 goals and 2 assists in 10 games for Alaska
Broz-- 1 goal and 1 assist in 11 games for Denver
Brinkman-- zero points in 9 games for the Irish
Moe-- 3 wins 6 losses 2.94 GAA and a 919 SV% for BADgers
Boynton-- Not played in a game for AIC
Non portal Cruz Lucius-- 4 goals and 3 assists for the BADgers
Lucius parents-- Extra 550 round trip miles to Madison for every home game for spite
Also Chaz Lucius 2g and 2a in 10 gp with Manitoba... he's 9th in scoring there and PSU alum Alex Limoges leads the Moose in scoring with 2g and 7a in 8 gp.
Lucius and Broz felt like big losses last summer...not so much now.
Two juggernauts Long Island and Wisconsin do battle tonight. Should set an attendance record with negative fans.
Every program has its dark years. I've been watching college hockey for more years than I care to reveal, and I can't recall WI ever being this far down.
Is this their low-water mark as a program?
There is no way the coaching staff can (or should) survive this. They have no chance to compete his season and if ever a mid-season coaching change is warranted, it's this season.
The end of the Sauer regime was pretty awful. His teams couldn't score in a whorehouse...

Was in Madison Friday for an event. We stayed literally right next door to Kohl Center and you would never know there was a game going on. They draw more for women’s volleyball than men’s hockey. They list Friday attendance for Men’s Hockey Fri at 6K, women’s volleyball at 7200. I don’t know how there was 6K people there. We stopped back at the room before we went out to dinner while the game was going on. We could see right into the arena concourse from our room and I couldn’t see any people walking around.
Big Ten save % leaders so far:
St. Cyr - MSU - .936
Souliere - PSU - .932
Bischel - ND - .928
Close - MN - .923
Moe - Wis - .915
Dobes - OSU - .911
Portillo - Mich - .909
Talk about probably the exact inverse of what was expected. Big Ten has been goofy so far.

Don't 2 of the 3 programs at the top prefer to play tight defensive games?

Save % is save % regardless. If it were GAA it’d be a different story. Also Moe, Dobes and Portillo are the NHL prospects of the conference?
The Big Ten is ridiculous this year
In one of Mike Eaves' final seasons at Wisco, didn't they accidentally score on themselves at home? When I saw the own goal on a delayed penalty last night, I did remember the one they gifted us last year, but I vaguely recall their giving up another embarrassing goal (albeit not on a delayed penalty) when Eaves' tenure was winding down.
If so, this weekend's own goal might be the death knell for Granato's tenure too even if they swept.

Look out now, the BADgers are on a 4 game winning streak... what? they swept Long Island and Lindenwood at home... never mind...
The Whioux lost to Miami last night. Miami had only 16 shots in the game, and only 2 in the 3rd and scored on 1 of them. The true Drew DeRidder is starting to appear. Save % under 90% now. A poster on the Whioux board says the luster has worn off the Ralph, and the top recruits want to play in the B1G...

Well, they could always join the Big10, if only the Big10 could "afford" them.
@maroon_and_gold Save percentage should be better with good defensive teams - less high quality shots.

Doesn't the number that's considered good keep edging up over the years?

I posted that over on Reddit. Of course the UND Hostile and Abusives show up as expected:
"What should be done? Kicked out of school? Game misconduct seems just fine."
B1G refs... corrupt, or just incompetent?
Joshua's older brother played for Ohio State just a couple years ago too... on a team with Sadlocha
Wondering if the official reported this to the Big Ten and if anything will be done about it. I really hope if a Gopher player did something like this some punishment would be done internally immediately.
Agreed, I remember saying that guys like Nevers and Nelson will need to step up and they have. That helps a lot. Also think 22 looks quite a bit better further down the lineup. That goes a long way in terms of helping the scoring depth.Lucius and Broz felt like big losses last summer...not so much now.
In the NHL it was for a while but then kinda corrected itself the last few years. You can find that here https://www.hockey-reference.com/leagues/stats.htmlBig Ten save % leaders so far:

For college I’m not as certain where to find that. Guessing the trend is similar.
I hadn't realized the Joshuas were African-Americans. I guess I really only thought of them as opposing players (as it should be).
Can't decide whether or not I want to know WTF Sadlocha's deal is.

Just sad… nobody should have to deal with that. Even less encouraging that he had to take to social media to illicit some kind of response from the B1G/Ohio State..

I would like to hope the Sadlocha kid isn't actually racist considering he was born in Poland and the history there. Maybe he was just caught up in the intensity of the game. That doesn't make it ok and he should still face punishment. I just hope the kid isn't really a bigot. Especially since he literally was on a team with Joshua's brother.
Ideally the punishment is doled out in a way that this person stops saying slurs on the ice and actually becomes a better person/learns something. To me that’s far more important than the harshness of whatever they decide for discipline.
So the fact that one of their referees ejected him for saying it isn’t “indisputable evidence”?
At this point, I'm hoping Rohlik already had been working on getting sensitivity education for Sadlocha. As trix said, it won't do anyone any good to have the latter sit out a few games if he doesn't really understand why or the importance of it. Otherwise a suspension now without it could be counterproductive.

Did they consult Jim Jordan for advice on how to handle this?

-Talk of D-I hockey at San Diego State

Really?!?!
Edit: Why even say something remotely political?

It had to do with the fact he did some bad things while at OSU so covering things up relative to college athletics is up his alley.
Let's try to avoid anything that could be political please... Just using the name of a politician is setting things up to not being pretty.

I read that to mean that he is not kicked off the team but is indefinitely suspended while they wait for the heat to die down.

At the very least it's a good course correction from their original gross mishandling of the situation.
I agree 100%. They needed to take some kind of action. Good to see that they did. Annoyed that it took public outcry for them to do what should have been done following the initial "investigation." At the end of the day the message is being sent that you can't do that kind of stuff. Net positive. Just a shame it continues to occur.
I'm kind of surprised that they acknowledged that it was Sadlocha. I thought they normally say something like "the player involved" just so they don't get sued or something even though everyone else had already figured out who it was.

It wasn't too hard to figure out. Look at the box score for the player that got a Game Misconduct, but no other penalty.I'm kind of surprised that they acknowledged that it was Sadlocha. And, at least for now, he's off the team:
B1G refs... corrupt, or just incompetent?
Not defending the OSU player's actions. And I might just be old and out of touch. Though the slur had to be more than just the "n" word or something. And I know there's derogatory comments going in all sports, not just hockey. And there's no excuses. Just I remember when I played sports over 30 years ago and probably most that stuff would be frowned upon what I heard now days.
Keep your stick on the ice...
If you can’t even say the word in question, it’s probably bad enough.
We don't know if it was the n-word either; that's just the most likely suspect. Sadly some people have spent the last 170+ years coming up with as many slurs as they can.

People can think, feel or say whatever they want. But this dude violated a policy bylaw by doing it, so he's out.
His real punishment is the shame he'll endure in the court of public opinion.
