One of Backes' best friends from college is a bank executive here in Mankato, it's also where Backes stays whenever he is in town. Anyway, my boss plays men's league with that banker and my boss has had the chance to hang with Backes on several occasions. It sounds like from their conversations that Backes is doing and will be fine in the money department. Backes and his wife devote a great amount of time to their charity which benefits animal charities and shelters. I imagine that will take up the lion's share of his time when he does pull the plug.

Ryan Lindgren is playing the physical game today that the Gophers need. Plus, his face has taken a beating the last few weeks.

Skjei was moved because the Rangers need to dump cash after resigning Krieder. Also, the emergence of Fox and Lindgren helped make the trade possible. Hope Brady helps out the Canes. Haula was in the dog house in Carolina, so not shocked at that move. Haula has a rep of being disgruntled and he has now been moved by MN and Carolina because of it. There are rumblings he could go back to Vegas in the off season. Wish them both well.

Vanek has officially retired from the NHL after not getting any offers at the trade deadline. One of my top 5 favorite Gophers of all time.
