The dynamic of college hockey….the emotions of a players season ending on the biggest stage of college hockey only to be called within 24 hours and offered a pro contract is something else. Does it happen in any other college sport? I also realize there is plenty going on behind the scenes and it isn’t as big of a surprise as one might thing, it’s still a wild 24-48 hours.

I recall a player saying that after he won the National Championship an NHL team rep was standing in the hall wanting to sign him. The player told him that he is going to celebrate with his team tonight and they can talk tomorrow. Crazy.

I remember at the Final Five in 2004 UND fans were openly talking about how Parise had already agreed to his contract and would sign it as soon as UND lost and their season was over. That Final Five Championship Game is still one of the best ever so much talent on the ice between the Gophers and Whioux.

Why are we looking for a transfer in goal? I get that Close was third in line a year ago but he has obviously proven himself in the second half of this year. Are you concerned that Close is going to leave early or no faith in the freshman that were recruited? I know neither of the freshman have played a minute this year but what makes you think the coaches wouldn't be ok with Close getting most of the time next year with one of the freshman also getting some games?

You need to have two goalies that can compete with each other these days. Most of us are thinking Boynton will leave. If Bartoszkiewicz is really going to be that 1B, they don't need anyone and can get a walk on third stringer. But he's a total unknown, too...

So sacrifice Bart, Boynton or both to be in a situation after next season where we are now relying on the portal? Doesn't seem to be a good strategy to me but who knows.

It's not about "sacrificing" Boynton. It's that something weird has clearly been going on there and it would not be surprising if he transfers.

I certainly don't know what's going on. But the fact that nobody but Laffer and then Close got any ice time makes me wonder what the :censored: is going on at goalie.

B1G refs... corrupt, or just incompetent?

Ok so if we brought in a transfer that is say a junior or senior, do you think Bart is going to stick around and be the 3rd goalie next year or 2? If they do that then it seems likely we are going to rely on the portal for goalies or have goalies with no experience. Either way doesn't seem ideal to me.

We don't even know if bartoskiewicz is any good. Why should we be hellbent on making sure he sticks around?

I say Bart stays and Boynton transfers and we bring in a transfer. The other wildcard is send Bart back to USHL for him to play all year and bring him back in 2023. It is rare, but it has happened before.

We don't know if he is or isn't any good but i would trust our coaches who see him everyday in practice to figure that out. My point is that I don't think it is a good idea to rely on the portal for a key position on the team like a goalie. The coaches obviously feel Bart was good enough to play here (although he was brought here earlier than expected). Just hoping we can have more of a staggered alignment of goalies for their class rather than relying on 2 seniors next year and having almost nothing in the pipeline

I'm not sure it is any more difficult to explain than that after Laffer left, the team needed to win every game. Close came in and looked outstanding. So they left him in. Had Laffer left in October, it would have been much more likely that Boynton/Bart got some time in net. But at the point Laffer left the team was on the bubble and needed to run wins up. When Close stepped in and looked very very good, Bob left him in.

I do agree re: playing time with Laffer early though. I was surprised he played basically the entire game every game early in the season. Maybe just Bob trying to get him back into the groove he was in during the 2021 season?

Another early departure for Western. After seeing all of these signings, the prospects of the Gophers not losing 2-3 are slim.

When I watched the NHL as a kid, I liked the Wings (the Wild didn't exist). If he signs for Minnesota or Detroit, I'll be pumped either way.
