Getting a college hockey team hasn't really helped Arizona State's reputation as a safety school.
Hopefully for Mackey's sake, the NHL comes back in some kicapacity this year and he's able to burn a year on his contract--and he plays well enough that that is to his benefit--because he was getting promised that before all of this happened.
I'd be (pleasantly) surprised if anyone else from MSU leaves early. Lots of great college hockey players, but not many pro prospects.
Couldn't agree more.
The only other one that I think could leave is nathan smith. At the beginning of the year, there was a potential he could be a one-and-done, but he was kind of underwhelming and his immaturity showed at various points in the season
Were you standing behind me a couple weeks ago when I was having that exact conversation with a friend at a game? He seemed like he had a fast rising trajectory early in the season, but he just found himself out a place and making mistakes in every game at the end.
I wasn't, but hastings at one point this season mentioned that he was set on the bench at the end of a.couple of games because his shoulders were sagging and he was getting frustrated. He made some mistakes that dont fly with this coach. I started watching at the end of the year and the seniors were stepping in trying to lead/encourage him.
I think the competition finally caught up with him. He dominated high school, but he cant just win on pure talent anymore.

What in the hell happened his last year of high school? Half the points of his previous year. Did they stop playing squirts?

In fairness to him, teams are probably going to focus their defense on a guy that's averaging almost 6 points per game and it's not realistic to keep it up

The only other flight risks at forward are Justin Richards, whose being pursued pretty hard (as a free agent) and sophomore Coke Koepke (a sophomore from Hermantown). My guess is that Dylan Samberg (on D) a junior & 2nd round Winnipeg draft choice will eventually sign, but the rest will stay, which may result in 2020 Mr Hockey winner Blake Biondi playing a full year of Juniors in USHL before arriving on campus in the Fall of 2021☝️

This most likely results in 2020 Mr Hockey winner Blake Biondi arriving on campus Fall 2020 (2 forward openings this Fall) Miller graduating & Richards signing.
Dylan Samberg signs with WPG
Seem like a slam dunk that Tyochnick ends up at UMD, plenty of opportunity to play, and track record of developing D-men.
tUMD might need to scrape the bottom of the barrel and bring in someone like Gallatin early.
tUMD might need to scrape the bottom of the barrel and bring in someone like Gallatin early.
Gallatin hasn’t graduated high school yet...so he can’t come in Fall 2020. They graduated 2 D & 2 signed early & they were carrying 8 D, they have 4 back. Kelley is coming in 100% from NTDP. It looks like Kaiser will be coming in too. They will need to add at least one more, likely two. Gotz played USHL and is a likely candidate. Oberle is also a possibility, a HS senior who played NAHL. Will Francis would have been part of the 2020 class, but sadly he is battling a very serious health issue.
Kelley
Gotz
Oberle
Tychonick/Kaiser

Has Gallatin gotten any bigger? Watched him as a freshman at White Bear and he had a ton of skill.

Man, coulda sworn Gallatin was a year older. Feel like the kid committed 3 years ago although I guess that’s how it worked back then. The Francis thing is a major bummer. Hopefully he gets well. Plenty of options. Reminds me a lot of 2017 when everyone graduated except Wolff. Tough to repeat the results but we’ll see.

Not really. Haven’t seen him much but I think he’s still 5’7 or 5’8. He’s beefed up a little but still can’t be much more than 170 or so

Reilly Walsh the next Ivy Leaguer to leave early with the imminent season postponement
Man we're distracted. ASU has lost a pair in the last few weeks. Maniscalco signed with the Pens.
Austin Lemieux is also leaving, but oddly not following him to his father's franchise and instead planning on becoming a professional golfer.

There are what looks like real indications Caufield might leave to play in Sweden.
With the coronavirus crap, I think Ranta is still a risk to play at home. The team is practicing again. Does anyone know if Ranta is on campus? If so, that would be a good sign.
