I’d say many are saying that as now that NIL has become a thing, no team outside of HE, NCHC, or B10 has even made a frozen four in the last 3 years. Think there will be 1 or 2 of the non those conference schools each year who have a shot if all things go right. It’s going to be cyclic when their teams line up and the bounces go their way. Agree I don’t see counting them out but their best chances were missed
According to a Todd M post this morning, the Big 10 is moving the hockey championship game to Friday night away from Saturday this season.
Guess they think the extra day of rest will help teams before the ncas or something...
that's so stupid. IMO, zero real upside, only potential downside as this just makes it a bit harder for the maximum possible fans to attend.
In exchange for marginal extra rest, when players get over soreness from a title game much quicker than like, a random regular season game anyways. And we all get the rest day in the middle of each regional. C'mon.
Not a perfect spot to put this but Mikey Berchild to the Hurricanes in Round 4. Should be a very good player at Denver and Carolina a great spot to maximize his potential.

He’s got the keys to the Cadillac HC job in D1 hockey, now he simply needs to pick the right mix of players to ride in the Caddy & not be seduced by all the potential talent at his fingertips going forward.

I never worry about a coach leaving here for another college job if he is successful. If he leaves for a pro job, that also usually means he is also successful and people will be lined up at the door wanting this job.

This may be completely wrong, but I'll tell you what I was told when Notre Dame hosted a regional at Compton.
The NCAA wants a neutral site arena. An organization can bid to host at an on-campus arena, but if another school offers to host at a neutral site arena, then the neutral site will get the games. Only if no other neutral site bids are placed will they consider an on-campus site.
Compton was a "mid-west" regional. West regional has been solidly in Loveland, Fargo, and Sioux Falls because the host schools have a nice neutral site arena with adequate seating (but not too much seating, why the X has gotten away from regional hosting recently). The Midwest region has floated from Allentown, PA to Fargo/Sioux Falls in recent years with neutral site arenas. If UND keeps hosting in Fargo every/every other year, then I don't see an on-campus bid working.
The regional situation frustrates me so much because for the past decade or two, all across MN there's been tons of short-sighted rink projects & developers, city govts etc. who have all failed to even consider potential NCAA regional bids in their plans.
If TRIA had 3.5k seats instead of 800 it'd be a slam dunk host site. I think Rochester could've brought the rec center arena up to (at least) Lindenwood standards as part of their recent renovation.
Like, the NCAA gifting that clown college in Missouri a regional at their own home barn (with 3 blue bloods in that bracket!) was a total f'ing joke! Any reasonably sized Minnesota town could've done a better job of hosting that Lindenwood regional if people actually gave a damn, I doubt their rink is that much nicer than say, Minnetonka's or even Rock Ridge's arena.
I just do not get why all these MN city officials and arena tenants seem to forget that NCAA hockey exists and needs some neutral sites given the current setup. I realize that hosting regionals genuinely sucked for most of the 2010s, but why foreclose the possibility in such dumb fashion!

I think there's multiple ways to look at that. I agree 100% it's not a paramount reason for a HS to focus on this, though the influx of dollars they would get from hosting a regional is not something to scoff at (international airport making travel easy, restaurants) and there are multiple other hosting opportunities year-round for say a complex with multiple sheets with one oversized/primary rink that holds at the NCAA lower threshold for hosting (concerts, graduations, these multiple "super" tournaments at the youth level, etc) that is going to have additional monies that come in due to it.
All that said, it's challenging to get funding for that unless you have investors who want to give back and fund that level of project and then you get into the politics for someone like TRIA, 3M, etc., donating to a certain school district.city rather than another and so it does limit that investor opportunity

Does anyone here happen to know what the NCAA all-time record is for most SOG in a period or a game? Or where I could even find that NCAA record? (Shots by one or both teams combined, it doesn't really matter for my purposes)
I ask because I've combed through the NCAA's official 2026 record book and it doesn't contain many SOG records. The only all-time SOG records in their official book are for tourney games, and I strongly suspect the actual SOG records would be set by some hugely mismatched regular-season game.
CHN almanac doesn't have it either. Furthermore I also find it odd how NCAA's official record book does include plenty of "most saves by a goalie" type records from non-tourney games -- saves are literally the same exact stat as SOG! Minus goals ofc.
I could probably piece it together based on their saves records and box scores from those games, but the lack of all-time SOG records is really making my brain itch.
I get they probably don't want to deal with the huge differences in how various arenas count SOG, but there's definitely some other fuzzy / semi-subjective stat records in that official record book. And they have plenty of "saves by a goalie" records! I just want to know the underlying shots records lol.
I think the Gophers record is 31 and they’ve done it a few times. Denver hung 25 on us in the first period last year, and honestly it felt like it was more.
Yeah even in the biggest blowouts, single-period SOG seem to cluster around ~30ish as the upper bound.
I think the all-time record for SOG by one team in a single regulation game is (most likely) 68 shots by St. Lawrence vs. RIT on Oct. 28, 2005. But the specific wording of this headline makes me think it's not the real all-time record (implies that a losing goalie has faced more shots).
