I always like the Monday morning discussion after the bracket comes out. Just a mix of being a homer and great college hockey mind. Then after the following weekend you realize you are not a great hockey mind when the coworker who just flipped a coin to decide his bracket is winning your office pool. There are a lot of coin flips in the first round but I do feel like the top 4 seeds will make it through the first round.
I am interested to see how the Western/Mankato game will go. One of the top offenses and the top defensive team. Yes, I'm not blind to who MSU plays all year but you still have to put up that stat for their team. Mankato's team defense will keep them in the game but their lack of scoring depth will be their demise.
I am the official Iowa Hawkeye football fan of GPL!
While I am fine with players using the portal when coaches leave, I personally think a player should lose a year of eligibility if they switch schools for any other reason, so long as they have a full scholarship. It seems as though many players bail on their team the first chance they get a better situation, whether it be for NIL money in FB and BB, or to hop up to a better team. Why? ESPECIALLY when the current HC gets fired. The Transfer Portal & corresponding not having to sit out isn’t going away anytime soon, deal with it. Coaches can leave whenever they want & (now) so can playersWhioux fire Berry.
couple of their guys will be big portal players if they choose to leave instead of try go pro
So how will this affect incoming players? We know a couple of players that should show up their in the next season or two. I know the portal should help more than hurt teams like the Gophers and UND but I hate it. If players are going to transfer I think they should lose a year of eligibility, have to sit out a season or both.
Not even in the NHL can a player just switch teams every year, unless they sign a 1 year contract. For the non-blue chip schools it can be devastating to lose a top player. For any school it's tough to replace a top recruit/player on short notice. You have a situation where a school has a scholarship set aside for a player and they are passing on good recruits as they have no available scholarships, and then a player bails. In hockey, many players need to develop in juniors before they are ready for D1. Lose a top Jr or Sr, do you bring in a HS senior next season?
I would agree if coaches were held to the same standard. Since they aren't though (and are actually under contract unlike players) I am all for players being able to transfer. It sucks and ruins everything, but it is fair.

I hear Dave Hakstol is available.
He was at the X on Friday to watch. Checking out his new team?
Here are CHN staff picks. Most look at the Gophers with an early exit.

CHN/Wodon’s eastern bias is f*ing absurd. 3/4 of CHN’s Mike Schafer Fan Club picked UMass over Minnesota.
For reference: UMass has (1) the worse overall record, (2) done worse in nearly all statistical categories (both offense and defense), (3) no last change to get favorable line matchups, (4) a giant material disadvantage in roster talent, (5) no track record of having the Gophers’ number, like, say, Mankato could point to; and (6) UMass has to travel across the country and play in front of a packed Minnesota-heavy crowd. Then again, Adam Wodon likes to pretend (6) doesn’t matter when it’s a Western team going to Providence or Worcester.
On the other hand, all UMass has going for them heading into this first round is… a somewhat comparable recent record with an early conference playoff loss? A 12-day vs. 18-day layoff? A drafted goalie with a SV% 0.01 higher than Souliere’s? I’d bet money that a bunch of those eastern clowns saw O’Hara for UMass has 2 more points on the year than Snuggerud and counted that as a deciding factor for UMass.
God I hope MSU clowns Cornell and sends Schafer off into the sunset riding like a 7-0 L and no Frozen Fours since what, 2001?

Meh. IIRC, for the 2022 regionals Minnesota was the #6 overall seed and had a first round matchup against #11 UMass. Most of the media were picking UMass to win that game (maybe because it was in Worchester, MA). That game turned out well.
Fun fact: Minnesota beat Western Michigan in the regional final that year to advance to the Frozen Four.

I remember that year well, was a good run. Somehow we made the most of a year where most other teams would’ve just rolled over and given up after losing Laffer to the pros, our 3 best players to the Olympics for a month, all while sitting 12th in PWR at one point.
Anyhow, I’d like to believe the talent and experience gap this time around means we do better than a come-from-behind OT win.
Should we all apply? I hear the job posting is open until Wednesday at midnight.Whioux fire Berry.

UND fans seem to really want Raboin to be their new coach which is interesting cause he isn’t even in my top 3 for when Bob moves on (probably #4 though😄)

Scrolling social media, apparently there’s a not insignificant bunch of braindead Minnesota “fans” who really want Bob to get fired and replaced by 1 of: Rand Pecknold, Mike Hastings, Jeff Jackson, or Grant Potulny 😂
When you tell somebody somethin', it depends on what part of the United States you're standin' in... as to just how dumb you are.
I see the frozen 4 as
Mich State vs Penn state
Denver vs Gophers

If this actually happened, I wonder if Denver’s 10 or 12 fans would start screaming that they should hire Bob to replace Carle
Maybe it's just in my head but beating Denver these days seems like a herculean task in the tournament. Hope I am wrong.

Denver are the Champs until someone beats them. But…Blowing a 3 lead is not characteristic of last years team, so I think it’s safe to say Denver is much more vulnerable this year. And they’re in a monster Regional with BCMaybe it's just in my head but beating Denver these days seems like a herculean task in the tournament. Hope I am wrong.

I mean if it was a different team that finished the year as we did wouldnt you question whether they can win the early game especially after a long layoff? The Gophers havent exactly played A or B hockey the last month and a half or so.
If Denver fires Carle it should be a battle royale of teams trying to get him. I am not sure what coach should feel comfortable in that situation.I see the frozen 4 as

@gopheritall Obviously Walkers comment was made in jest. I think it’s safe to say Carle job at Denver is the safest in D1 hockey. lol

I was recently informed by a GPLer that I'm related to Airey
OSU 1-0 early. BU has shown no spark whatsoever to this point.
End of the 1st, 1-0 tOSU. SOG: 15-2. Buckeyes are just in complete control. Looks like a BU PP to start the 2nd, though.
B1G refs... corrupt, or just incompetent?

going to be a classic we'll see if not scoring bites you in the ass. Should be 2 or 3 rip for OSU at this point. BU looks awful.
Obviously I want it to be the Gophers, but it's about time a Big Ten team won this thing.
OSU was really tough this year, I know I picked them in my bracket over BU.
Great game so far!

This one's turning into a battle. They've traded goals in the 2nd period. First couple were spread out, then suddenly in less than a minute, two goals for BU and one for OSU in between. 3-3, 1:59 left in the period.
And an ugly penalty on BU just after.
B1G refs... corrupt, or just incompetent?
And BU OSU almost gets a last second goal, but time expired about .1 seconds before the puck crossed the line. 3-3 end of the 2nd
EDIT: Corrected the almost-goal
B1G refs... corrupt, or just incompetent?
Wow, BU dodged a bullet....less than 1/10th of a second from being a goal.

if either of these teams plays like this against MSU on Sat, they're going to get absolutely smacked. So loose defensively. I expected it from BU, but this is very uncharacteristic of OSU. Though to be fair, the grade As are pretty heavily OSU leaned but BU has cashed in on their chances
terness gives up a brutal one. osu going to be up against it now
And OSU falling apart, give up a bad turnover short-handed, down 5-3 now.
EDIT: And almost gave up another shorty on the same PP.
B1G refs... corrupt, or just incompetent?
The wheels have officially fallen off... BU 6-3 from behind the goal-line off the goalie.
B1G refs... corrupt, or just incompetent?
If the Gopher game is anything like this, I am going to have a heart attack.
fOSU's non goal after the 2nd period buzzer is a tough one.
OSU goalie looks lost out there. That goal horn is a bit excessive.
Full meltdown. Weak goal brings the team down then a shorty. Two unforced errors and not a recipe for winning a tournament game. And OSU falling apart, give up a bad turnover short-handed, down 5-3 now.
EDIT: And almost gave up another shorty on the same PP.
This OSU goalie is going to need therapy. How many goals have been perfect picks off the inside of the post or cross bar and then he lets in some shitty puck tossed in from behind the goal line.....
How the heck did the BU guy not make it 7-3?

OSU now fully checked out. Bummer way to end a season.
They scored the 3rd most 3rd period goals in the NCAA this season. Tough to figure.
The announcers are fawning over Eiserman but the brutal reality is that OSU goalie let in a back hander from the corner on the goal line.
think the version of osu we saw after the first would lose about 8-1 to MSU. will make for a better game sat provided MSU doesn't lay an egg vs Cornell. Don't know if i'd be clapping like we saw the MSU guy earlier. BU has way more weapons to hurt you than OSU does
is stopping 15/22 shots good? Terness was really good at times this year but holy hell at some point you need to save a kid from himself. he's so off his angles right now
Two goal tender gimmies and a shorty in the third plus a d breakdown for the lucky 7.
This has to be OSU's, if not all of college hockey's worst third-period breakdowns all season.
This is what happens when you play nearly 5 periods of hockey 5 days ago. The wear adds up exponentially as the overtimes go on.
One game in and my bracket is already busted.
BU wins 8-3 (one empty net goal)
The expected goals were Ohio State 3.0 BU 2.1
The shots on goal were Ohio State 36 BU 23
What a nightmare game by the Ohio State goalie.
so I know it has been asked before but I saw the earlier game today and know watching the game in Fargo both games have a lot of open seats, why do they not change the regions to college teams sites like the NCAA does for women's hockey?
Aloha!
I appreciate all the updates I couldn’t watch anything till now. Thank you all!
Because a lot of coaches (especially Eastern teams) insist that it has to stay in neutral sites.so I know it has been asked before but I saw the earlier game today and know watching the game in Fargo both games have a lot of open seats, why do they not change the regions to college teams sites like the NCAA does for women's hockey?
