Who should we be rooting for at this point? I wouldn’t mind being a number one seed and getting to wear the whites all weekend, but I also like the idea of not having to play the purple land cows. Math people - who do we jinx? 😂
tbh i dunno if it matters now that its an OT game. It's going to be razor percentage if DU wins here but I think WMU may stay ahead of us either way.
Wasn't Denver up 3-0 with like 3 mins left? I switched to the big ten game after I thought Denver went up 4-0 but that must've been reviewed or something.
Wow Bump ices the game!
Alex Bump should have been a gopher.
Alex Bump. Wow.

Yep called back for offsides.
Let the bracketology predictions commence!
Prior Lakes Alex Bump wins it on OT. Looks like Gophers will be playing UMass not Mankato as the 5th overall seed. On to Fargo…

yep it’ll be locked UMass. All other 2s are HE teams and can’t play UMass
Just remember the last time Western was the 1 seed and the Gophers were the 2 seed in the same region.

Prov vs Denv
Toledo
Mich St vs Cornell
BU vs Ohio St
Allentown
Maine vs Penn St
UConn vs Quinn
Fargo

Minn vs UMass
I don't think it will happen but is there any chance they send Maine to Fargo and Western Michigan to Allentown to keep the 3/14 & 4/13 overall seedings in tact?
Man did the past two NCAA Champions absolutely blow games this weekend.
Denver played one good period tonight (obviously the second period). The other three periods Western Michigan out shot them 39-15 (50-29 for the game).

knock on wood
The Warroad kid is pretty damn good in goal (too). Western Michigan will be a tough out in Fargo, they gained momentum from this comeback.Man did the past two NCAA Champions absolutely blow games this weekend.

doubt it from travel standpoint and that RPI it tight between 13/14 and 3/4 so would think they'll do it based on geography. I have exact same bracket as you. Bracket integrity is pretty close to seeding, travel is good. Attendance works well at all sites (BC, Prov in Manchester and DU travels fine; Mich St, OSU in Toledo; Allentown may actually have a crowd for once with all eastern teams there; Fargo MN and traveling contingents of Kato and WMU plus the losers from UND who go to cheer for Umass)

they've only lost once in regulation in the second half. they're a damn good team, but then again so are the Gophers and Mankato is no slouch either. Umass has been up and down but beat BC, BU, and Maine this year and is overall 5-7-2 vs teams in the field.
For comp, MN is 6-4-2
WMU 2-3
Mankato has not played a team in the tournament this year

If this is the Fargo bracket it will be similar to the regional the Gophers had in 2022
#2 seed Gophers vs. #3 seed U Mass
#1 seed Western Michigan vs. #4 seed Northeastern
That year the Gophers beat U Mass 4-3 and Western Michigan 3-0 to make it to the Frozen Four.
Although I think Mankato will be a tough out so they shouldn't be discounted.
Who knows, the Gophers may have caught a break not having to open vs Mankato who’s on a bit of a roll too. In any event, at least Fargo is close by for Gopher fans attending the Regional.Regional Predictions:

avoiding the pitlick revenge game is ideal imo. Umass goalie could be a problem though.
Looks like the Big10 will have 4 teams out of the 7 in the NCAA tournament. What happened to the illustrious NCHC that only has 2 out of the 9 teams. 😁
At this point the only team the Gophers have to fear is themselves. I don't mean it's a cakewalk, but there should be no reason to be afraid if they play their game.
These days, every team in the tournament is good. We shouldn't fear any team, nor should we take any of them lightly.
For the most part, that's a true statement. I think if the Gophers were to end up in a semifinal or final against another B1G team, they then get B1G refs. That's what has happened in the past when two teams from the same conference play each other in the Frozen Four. Please see my signature. How the fuck that’s a 2 on MSU is beyond me
Joke officiating.
On the plus side, the Gophers won't see another B1G crew the rest of the year, I don't think.
@gopher6 That's not new. That's been the design of the trophy for the tournament champion since the start. The eye of sauron is the regular season trophy.
B1G refs... corrupt, or just incompetent?

so the teams that win either trophy they get to keep the trophy and the Big Ten makes a new trophy every year for either regular season or Big Ten tournament championship?

They take losing serious at North Dakota! Miss the NCAA Tournament 2 of 3 years and winning a Natty in 2016 is old news! Plus they hadn’t won an NCAA tournament game since March 2021.

So how will this affect incoming players? We know a couple of players that should show up their in the next season or two. I know the portal should help more than hurt teams like the Gophers and UND but I hate it. If players are going to transfer I think they should lose a year of eligibility, have to sit out a season or both.

IIRC, if a coach leaves/is fired, the incoming players can get out of their NLI and can sign elsewhere. I think that is how Bump ended up at Western after the Vermont coach got fired. The Whioux have a decent crop of players coming in, including Zellers, Simpson, Laurila, Klee and Heil. it will be interesting if any of those choose to leave. Zellers, a Maple Grove kid, had 40 goals in the USHL this year.

Why? ESPECIALLY when the current HC gets fired. The Transfer Portal & corresponding not having to sit out isn’t going away anytime soon, deal with it. Coaches can leave whenever they want & (now) so can playersWhioux fire Berry.

While I am fine with players using the portal when coaches leave, I personally think a player should lose a year of eligibility if they switch schools for any other reason, so long as they have a full scholarship. It seems as though many players bail on their team the first chance they get a better situation, whether it be for NIL money in FB and BB, or to hop up to a better team. Why? Not even in the NHL can a player just switch teams every year, unless they sign a 1 year contract. For the non-blue chip schools it can be devastating to lose a top player. For any school it's tough to replace a top recruit/player on short notice. You have a situation where a school has a scholarship set aside for a player and they are passing on good recruits as they have no available scholarships, and then a player bails. In hockey, many players need to develop in juniors before they are ready for D1. Lose a top Jr or Sr, do you bring in a HS senior next season?
18 full scholarships currently divided among roughly 25 players equates to very few or none having “full scholarships”. I think one transfer without having to sit out makes sense, sometimes the player & coaching staff don’t see eye to eye for whatever reason (a notable recent example is Isaac Howard who will likely be a top 3 finalist for the Hobey). Now transferring a 3nd time, I can see having to sit out one semester before playing for the 3rd team. Nonetheless, the status quo isn’t likely going to change anytime soon. While I am fine with players using the portal when coaches leave, I personally think a player should lose a year of eligibility if they switch schools for any other reason, so long as they have a full scholarship. NEW NCAA MEN’S HOCKEY SCHOLARSHIPS LIMITS
Starting in the 2025-2026 academic year, the NCAA will eliminate D1 scholarship limits if a proposed settlement is approved, enabling all sports to distribute scholarships more flexibly among athletes. This change is expected to have a significant impact on college hockey recruiting. More details and the latest updates here.
These changes would impact men’s hockey recruits in the following ways:
- D1 men’s hockey programs will be allowed to offer 26 scholarships, up from the current limit of 18.
- D1 men’s hockey will have a maximum roster limit of 26.
- D1 hockey is already an equivalency sport and will continue to offer both partial and full scholarships to recruits.
Note: These are the maximum scholarship and roster limits set by the NCAA, but schools aren’t required to meet these maximums.
