I would not mind if a bench clearing brawl would break out in the Mich-MSU game that would lead to a bunch of suspensions for next week.

You read my mind. I just said the same thing. 😂
They initially announced that Hage got a DQ, but they later clarified it as a misconduct. So he’ll be able to play on Friday.

I would envision the B10 will look at it all and decide on supplemental so we’ll see

It sounded like Hage may have come off the bench as well. I really did not see anything in the scrum that warranted a suspension, but that could. I remember Lettieri got a game for being a peacemaker a few years ago when he came off the bench.

Looked (and sounded from BTN) like he hopped over in the middle of the scrum and can see he just grabbed the guy's facemask. So, that will definitely be reviewed, only question is if the league does anything about it, they're pretty bad about that.
B1G refs... corrupt, or just incompetent?
Adam Pietila of Wisconsin with his second consecutive game misconduct towards the end of the game after a sweep in as many weekends.
Stay classy San Diego.
Penn State at #16. If they can sweep ND at home and manage splits against MSU and MN are they in? I’d say probably yeah. Way easier said than done though.

they’d be in provided they didn’t get swept opening weekend and that the autobids are relatively chalky. Games with MN and MSU will be rpi boosters regardless of outcome. WI and ND are dead outside of autobids now. Michigan should be fine with splits on out provided they win their 1st round series. Tough year to be sitting around 12-16 given you know there will effectively be 3 autobids between CCHA, AHA, and ECAC (QU may end up getting in in at large territory, but it will be in the 12-16 range unless they go on a run and win out with how weak the ECAC has looked)

I just watched the replay of the scrum, and there were 7 Michigan players on the ice. No extra Sparty players. So, I think 2 Michigan players should get suspended a game for coming off the bench. As far as I can tell, # 5, 33, 44, 63 & 91 were legally on the ice. 44 went off the ice for a change right as the scrum started. I think Hage (19) replaced him.
Michigan players on the ice during the scrum were #5, 9, 19, 21, 33, 63 & 91. #19, 33, and 91 were the 3 that engaged first. 91 and 33 should have been leaving the ice. Obviously a line change was happening right as this started. It will be interesting how the B1G rules on this.

Anyone know when single game tickets go on sale for the Fargo Regional? Only thing I saw when I tried was for the whole weekend and in the Ice Garden section. Also, anyone know what the ice garden section is like and if it's worth it?
I'm being optimistic and assuming we are in Fargo.
BC head and shoulders Better after 1, but only up 1-0.
we’ll see if it comes back to bite them
BC gets exactly what you deserve when you don’t take advantage and are down 2-1 and BU is now all over them in the 2nd
It’s a fast game.

Oof. That would be a meat grinder.
I'd be real surprised if they chose to send BU out west rather than keep them east, particularly given BU is a 2 seed and you can easily flip the WMU/UML and BU/Mich and improve the Allentown attendance while not at all impacting Fargo (we will sell out Fargo). They've shown numerous times they don't care about bracket integrity after seed 1 and 2 getting their autobid opponents with next precedent being keeping top teams nearer home and "helping" attendance provided you avoid intraconference 1st round matchups as much as you can

Aloha!
My take on the NCAA tourney is keep us away from Western or Maine and I like our odds to make it to St. Louis. Something about those older, heavy teams with elite goaltending give me the heebee jeebees. We’ve seen it all too often as Gopher fans in the NCAA tourney. Most recently with Kato and the Q.
The good news is if things stay like they are, Maine and Western will be shipped off to the same region as the #4 and #5.
Ratings from last weekends Mich-Sparty game in Detroit on BTN. It was the most viewed on BTN this year, 3rd all time. #1 is Gophers vs Michigan in 2023 B1G Finals and second is Mn @ OSU Jan 30 2021.
Sym@symmeringWell this one surprised me a little: The Michigan State-Michigan men's hockey game from Detroit averaged 159K viewers on the Big Ten Network Saturday night. The record for most-watched hockey game in the network's history is 165K- the 2023 B1G Tournament Final. There was regular season hockey game that drew 165K- Minnesota-Ohio State on Jan. 30, 2021. The 2023 B1G Tournament Final beat that by mere hundreds of viewers. Wow.

so no Gophers in this? No problem gives them more of a chance at the National Championship 😎
Aloha!
Onward we go down the stretch run and where things get more and more heat in the conference and PWR race. Sorry for missing last week but were travelling.
Things have locked for the top 2 teams being in for absolute certain, though really it's going to be very difficult to see anyone outside of the top 10 in the PWR not make it now. For Gopher fans, all about pairwise jockeying with the top 2 slots basically looking locked out (BC beats us in the comparison and the RPI and MSU we can't catch even with a h2h victory in the CC game; obviously this is barring either of them completely imploding). Given that, the below will be with an interest on the Gophers holding position.
AHA: does not matter. Sacred Heart and HC have come up in the rankings, but even winning out they still likely are locked into where the autobid territory will be (14-16) regardless.
CCHA: Mich Tech at Augustana. Very very small AL chance for Augustana remains, but they'll need to basically win out here until the CC to remain so. Realistically the CCHA or ECAC would be MNs first round opponent unless QU runs the table and gets up away from the 4 seed
ECAC: Dartmouth and Clarkson play tonight with both having exceedingly slim chances at an AL remaining. Loser of tonight is probably stuck with autobid or bust. QU plays Union and Rensselaer, Colgate at Yale and Brown. Losses for either of them this weekend and the AL potential of the conference is looking highly slim.
Why it matters: if the Gophers end up at the 3, you may be looking at the conference autobid rather than playing the likes of Mich, ASU, etc. as your play-in game.
B10: WI at OSU in a series they'd have to sweep to have any AL chance anymore (tbh its sailed with getting swept at MN and compounded against PSU). OSU is still in a really good spot to run up the table with WI, MN, and Mich left. Split probably the move to keep OSU down and to see WI lose which is always fun. PSU-ND really doesn't matter much to Gopher fans other than PSU winning to keep them inside the RPI top 20 is beneficial for the conference win bonus as a whole.
HE: as expected, has turned into an absolute blood bath and they've cannibalized themselves. Currently with BC, Maine, BU, Prov, UConn, and UML in and Umass (14) on the bubble with AL chances remaining. The rest (UNH, Merrimack, Vermont) aside from NE have a fleeting chance but would take some crazy streaks. This week now post Beanpot
BC with a home/home with UMass, NE home/home with UML, BU home/home with Providence, UNH at Maine, and Vermont at Merrimack. For the Gopher angle, given we're not catching BC I'd rather they split. UNH over Maine and BU splitting with Providence would be ideal. The HE teams have the easiest path to catch MN for the 3 due to the SOS within the conference. Lots of room to shuffle as 3-10 are separated by <.03 in the RPI and simple QWB can really swing things down the stretch.
NCHC: ASU with a don't mess up series at UMD. Would be nice for multiple reasons to see Omaha grab at least one from WMU on the road. UND at Denver the big one. Do or die time for the Sue as anything less than a sweep and their season is officially resting on winning the conference tournament. If they split this weekend, though there's a lot of hockey left, very well could be a prelude to their first round matchup in the NCHC tournament given they're 9 and 10 points behind ASU and Omaha (with 2 games in hand) which would be a wildly fun quarterfinal matchup there. So if you're a glutton for it, cheer split
BC has lost 2 in a row, including tonight at home. Wonder if Eagles Puck Live is having a meltdown? 😉

Serious question: is Brad Berry going to get fired after this season?
If the NCAA tournament started tomorrow it would include
7 of the 11 (64 %) Hockey East teams
4 of the 7 (57 %) Big Ten teams
2 of the 9 (22 %) NCHC teams
NCHC you SUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 🤣
It likely wouldn't end exactly this way but even if it changes some there is clearly a Big Two this year not a Big Three.

probably based on the rabble in nd

in terms of depth, absolutely. I'd expect HE to take each other out a little bit more, just a matter of who ends up benefitting whether its QU sneaking in and then the ECAC getting a second or the NCHC getting a 3rd, I'd say both HE and the B10 are going to see over half their teams in the field this year taking up 10/16 spots with the autos from the NCHC, AHA, CCHA, and ECAC leaving just 2 other spots "up" with DU taking one for sure. Interestingly, BC with no games left after today against teams that will be in the field until the HE tournament.
For the NCHC, this the joy of what happens when you have an absolutely awful team like Miami. 3-22-2 and losers of 19 straight, their wins are against AA and Lindenwood. It would be one thing if they lost to top tier teams non con, but they dropped games against Lindenwood, 2 to RMU, 2 to Rensselaer, and tied Ferris State twice. The conference .586 non con record is closer to the CCHA and ECAC than it is to the B10 or HE this year.

so how bad are the Baddddddgers I can’t believe how they keep getting swept! 😎
Aloha!
Well on through the weekend, more of the field is "locked" per se.
BC, MSU, MN, and Maine now with all predictions to be 13 or higher. 5-9 seeds are all >99% likely. Of the others nearer the cut line, ASU really hurt themselves this weekend at Duluth with the OTL and tie which now makes it look like NCHC will be 2 teams with 3rd only coming from an autobid. CCHA chances at more than one bid also took a hit with Augustana's tie vs Michigan Tech. PSU continues to help themselves and now has as much of an at large chance as ASU does thanks to B10 SOS and having MSU and MN as their 2 remaining series.
Big ones this week
WMU @ ASU. ASU will have a chance to right all they messed up this weekend. Given ASU only has Omaha left after this, this series probably decides if they have an AL chance.
PSU @ MSU. Can the B10 get a 5th team in?
OSU @ MN. For obvious reasons. Split an absolute minimum for MN if they want to hang onto a 1.
Maine plays one at UConn. BU plays NE this weekend and then an early week game at UConn. UML plays one at Providence. Lots of shuffling going to continue to go on out east
Just some good hard nosed Whioux Hockey.

@frozen4champs UND will be a fascinating one to watch in the offseason, especially if they fire Berry, to see who sticks around. Rangers (Emery's team) have 5 NHL and 3 AHL defensemen with expiring contracts. Then they unload a bunch of guys up front and then you've got someone like Boisvert (CHI) who may be looking to leave early (very happy if he pushes Moore into another year here).

I think they have relied too much on the portal. I would love to see a mass exodus and they could end up like Duluth this year for a couple of years.

I would guess they keep him around since the buyout, if I recall, is pretty expensive...which is great news for everyone else in college hockey. It's admittedly fun to watch that fanbase squirm.
