A little look at the weekend ahead as we get into the stretch run for most conferences with national and local implications on the PWR/NCAA tournament. Getting to my favorite time of year as we hit February and March

B10

All 3 series have important implications. Really only ND has been eliminated from AL contention at this point. PSU (24) goes to Michigan (12) who lit them up earlier this year. If they get swept again, going to be pretty tough to have a shot outside of the BTT though they are the only team with 10 games left at this point. Conversely Michigan really needs these games at the next 6 are MSU, MN, and OSU so there are not any easy ones after this weekend. MN-WI really will put WIs chances at an AL on life support if they are swept due to being under .500. They do finish PSU, @OSU, ND so there are opportunities there, but if swept probably means they need to sweep both PSU and ND to have a realistic chance outside of sweeping their first round series and making the final. MSU-OSU will finish up tonight as many of you already know.

AHA

Does not matter. Will be a one bid league

CCHA

only series really of note are for Mankato vs UST and LSSU at Augustana. CCHA looking more and more like a confirmed one bid league with it likely going to take near winning out from either Mankato or Augustana to have AL chances. They do at least play each other, but otherwise the PWR for their remaining opponents are all going to drag their RPI down in (Mankato: 46, 21, 44, 47; Augustana: 44, 17, 31, 38). Do or die time for the AL

ECAC

One big game between Dartmouth (19) and Quinny (13) which will likely flip the PWR comp in Dartmouths favor should they win (had beaten QU earlier this year). These 2 and Cornell (helped out by sweeping UND earlier this year) are really the only ones with major chances still to be an AL (with minor chances for teams like Clarkson or Colgate if they run the table given there are about 10 games left for most of these teams), but its going to be heavy PWR sucks playing the rest of the league that's sitting in the 40s to 50s.

HE--> reminder that HE plays a ton of single games spaced out at weird intervals because of other in season tournaments and home and homes, etc.

Lots of important games with teams under contention this weekend. UNH (15) on the road against BU (11) for their last game (BU swept them earlier) with UNH being a doubly important team as they are a host institution in Manchester this year, NE (23) goes to Maine (5), Merrimack (22) has UMass (18) and UML (10) with Umass also playing Maine, and UML also playing BC (1) this weekend. Lastly there's a series with UConn (4) against Providence (9). League looks realistically like it could get 5-6 teams in this year. The RPI between NE at 23 and the bubble with ASU at 14 is <.03 in the RPI so lots of room to jump given how many highly ranked teams they will play.

NCHC

Really the only one I'm watching closely is UND (26) and SCSU (27). SCSU has yet to win after the winter break (and hasn't even been within 1) while losing 8 of 9 and UND has dropped 3 of 4 after the break. Obviously an important one for multiple reasons, especially with UND as the host in Fargo (which would certainly be a wild one were they to win as an autobid seeded in the upper teens-20s and be a first round opponent in a rink they'll have all the tickets in) Elsewhere really no must have games with low seeds with chances to pick up wins on teams that will make it (Omaha at DU and CC vs WMU) or just needing to not mess up (ASU vs Miami).

Omaha on the road ties Denver and wins the shoot out.

Who had the NCHC standings being?

1 - Western Michigan 33 points (11 games left)

2 tied - Arizona State 31 points (9 games left)

2 tied - Omaha 31 points (9 games left)

4 - North Dakota 22 points (11 games left)

5 - Denver 21 points (11 games left)

If North Dakota and Denver finish 4/5 that would definitely make for a fun/interesting first round match up.

Denver being Pairwise #7 and North Dakota being Pairwise #27 certainly shows how important non conference games are.

Denver 11-1

North Dakota 5-5-1

How many bids the NCHC getting?

id guess it ends up as 3 barring an autobid with 2 ending up right near the cut line. They have a lot of series left comparatively to the BIG but it’s going to take an absolute heater from someone to get enough wins given how rough the bottom half of the league looks with 3 teams in the 30s and Miami the 2nd worst team in the country. HE is going to cannibalize itself enough to reduce their bids. 6 would be over half its teams and that’s a ton to end up with in

right now

AHA, CCHA, ECAC 1 each

BIG 4

NCHC 3

HE 6

in the big, Michigan has the top 3 teams left so room to go up, but also rough games. Splits and they’ll be fine. Wisconsin has PSU ND and OSU and are now 3 games under .500. They’re in a world of hurt and will need at least 2 sweeps.

Will be interesting to see who can go on a run here but much nicer to be in the gophers shoes trying to shore up a 1 seed than being stuck on the bubble but think you see there being one additional autobid (either the ecac gets QU in and one bonus or one out of the NCHC)

According to their announcer the spar-ans are playing again tonight.  🤦‍♀️

I feel icky wanting the ugly helmets to get more points…But I’ll be very much over that sentiment in a little over 24 hours.  😂

Michigan State is 4-3 against Michigan and Wisconsin. 2-2 in regulation, 2-1 in OT so they have taken 11 of a possible 21 points.

The Gophers are 6-0 against Michigan and Wisconsin. 5-0 in regulation, 1-0 in OT taking 17 out of a possible 18 points.

Wow is Jan struggling. St. Cloud was shut out tonight 4-0.

They are winless in their last 11 conference games 10 losses and a tie (lost the shoot out) 9 of the loses were in regulation so they've taken 2 points out of a possible 33 points over the 11 games.

They've scored 59 goals in 27 games this season. Their 2.2 goals per game is only better then 6 teams out of 64 (Air Force, St. Lawrence, Stonehill, Lindenwood, Miami, and Northern Michigan).

Penn State being Pairwise #17 with a 4-10-3 record (3-9 in regulation, 1-1-3 in OT) in Big Ten games shows the overall strength of the conference.

Colorado College goes to Grand Forks and beats the Sue 6-4.

The Sue are now Pairwise #28 out of 64.

Something tells me a certain website is going be "interesting" tonight.

North Dakota has now lost 5 straight games to Colorado College and is winless in their last 6 games against them. In their last three game against CC they've given up 7, 6, and 6 goals.

The red team is bad, dumb, and cheap.
Same turd mucking up crap the end of last Saturday’s game (Penisi?) gets a major for spearing in the last minute tonight.

Penn State is 8-2-3 in their last 13 games.

During the streak along with the two road wins against the BADgers, they have a win & a tie (shot out win) vs. Ohio State, a split at Michigan, a tie (shot out win) against Michigan State, and a win & tie at Notre Dame.

Their last 3 regular season series are

Home vs. Notre Dame

at Michigan State

Home vs. Minnesota

Denver had a 5-3 lead against Arizona State with 8 minutes left in regulation but the Sun Devils score three straight goals to win 6-5 in OT.

Arizona state wins the season series against Denver 3 wins to 1 win taking 9 of 12 points from Denver.

Ohio State is one of the sneakiest 2 seeds I can remember. Games tonight are still going, but still.

The red team is bad, dumb, and cheap.
Same turd mucking up crap the end of last Saturday’s game (Penisi?) gets a major for spearing in the last minute tonight.
Stay classy red pukes.

Pietila, I believe. I don’t know the first name because there’s about 40 of them. They usually play for Tech, though. Kind of like Slaggerts and Notre Dame.
