Are the Pioux currently in on PWR or not?
Nope, they're sitting at 21 right now.
B1G refs... corrupt, or just incompetent?
MSU rebounds easily over Michigan, BC sweeps providence, ASU sweeps scsu (4 Ls in a row and 6/7 for the huskies who are now off the bubble), UND swept at home by WMU.
Big ten shaping up to look very interesting in the pwr. MN and MSU are getting near to locks for postseason play and lots of teams around the bubble with ND probably the only one who has already hit the point of needing to win the conference tourney. We’ll see how badly those bubble teams cannibalize each other down the stretch
Both Jan and the Fighting Whioux got swept at home this weekend 😎
Aloha!
I'm impressed that Wisconsin is on the PWR bubble at 10-12-2... I don't really fully understand the nuances of the PWR, but I assume this simply has to do with SOS...
@rowshkex Their strength of schedule being 6th out of 64 teams is definitely a big reason but it is also because 6 of their losses have been in 3 on 3 OTs.
They are 8-6 in games decided in regulation.
2-6-2 in games decided in 3 on 3 OTs (Pairwise doesn't factor in shootouts).
With OT games counting as 2/3 for a win vs. 1/3 for a loss one regulation win matches three OT losses in terms of being .500 in Pairwise winning %. Being 2 games over .500 in regulation (full wins) more than balances out being 4 games under .500 in 3 on 3 OTs so their Pairwise winning % is .5139
That, plus most of their losses being either in OT, or to Top 4 teams (or both). 7 of their 12 losses are to Minnesota, Denver and Michigan State. An OT loss only counts as 2/3 of a loss for PWR/RPI purposes, with shootouts being pure ties for RPI/PWR purposes. Their losses (ranking being current RPI position which is what affects the math):I'm impressed that Wisconsin is on the PWR bubble at 10-12-2... I don't really fully understand the nuances of the PWR, but I assume this simply has to do with SOS...
#55 Lindenwood (ok, just bad)
#10 tOSU x2 (1 OT)
#4 Denver x2
#37 Notre Dame (OT)
#3 Minnesota x2 (1 OT)
#2 Michigan State x3 (2 in OT, plus a win)
#11 Michigan (OT)

With UND’s season on life support, looking more and more like we’ll be heading to Fargo if we lock up a 1 seed
With UND’s season on life support, looking more and more like we’ll be heading to Fargo if we lock up a 1 seed
I won’t call that one out until it’s out and would be very unhappy with a 1-4 in Fargo against und.
part of why this weekend with MSU will be huge. Going to take winning both games (or at least a win/tie) to flip the pwr comp against them (unless we see them in the BTT). Obviously AQs will change it all up, but seeming like it’ll be a pretty big advantage for whoever gets the 1 overall and gets the AHA unless somebody well down the list runs the tourney table. UND could also very easily win the NCHC tourney and be a very unfortunate 1st round game for someone

very weird team they've got up there this year. Will be curious to see if Boisvert comes back and if Berry survives this year if they don't make the postseason. The fan base is out for blood for sure. student section was chanting to fire berry at the end of the game on saturday

given qpac and Kato are both auto bids but ranked 14-15 I would expect Kato gets the Fargo nod and quinny Toledo for attendance and lower travel burden
id also guess they move bu and/or wmu in this scenario to avoid having a 1-2 from the same conf in as many brackets as possible. I’d be happy with our draw in this one though
Where’s NoDak in that Fargo regional 🤣

I know we’re still months out from the NCAA tourney but I just get the hunch that we’ll be playing Mankato in the first round. They’ll likely win the CCHA and make the tourney as a 4 seed and we’ll likely be a 1 seed. Knowing how the committee likes to base matchups on attendance sometimes, sending Kato to Fargo makes a ton of sense.
Fan voting has now opened for the Hobey. Rinzel and Snuggy are on the list.

Mankato in the first round. They’ll likely win the CCHA
Not so fast...Kato is going to have to clean some things up to win the CCHA. They are the best team in the CCHA but they have had problems putting away teams over a weekend series the last two weeks. They put themselves in the hole of having to win the conference tournament to get in the NCAA tournament. If the Mavs face an above average goalie like what Northern and Tech have, they haven't figured out how to put three periods together against a team like them. That will be the problem for them after the first round of conference playoffs when it goes to win or go home. My 2 cents.
I am the official Iowa Hawkeye football fan of GPL!

don’t know if they’re quite at the can only win the conf title point yet, but will probably need to go 7-3 or 8-2 to get above the bubble more comfortably. The split with Michigan and UND and sweep over Omaha will help them keep their RPI up a little, but they absolutely need sweeps over the lower teams in the CCHA now with the loss to NMU and BSU. Any more bad losses and it’ll get rough, especially if any HE B10 or NCHC outside teams get hot down the stretch here
BC beats BU on the road despite getting outshot 11-1 in the 3rd. Mankato drops one to Ferris state (they’ll now have to win the ccha tourney in all likelihood), Duluth up on Denver late in the 2nd, ND loses to Lindenwood
weird time in college hockey
Duluth beats DU. Omaha beats SCSU. PSU wins the shootout with OSU. WI scores twice late to beat Michigan.
the loss tonight sucks and there’s now a very large gap between MN and the top 2, but they’re still in prime position to get a one seed and the rest of the results tonight were pretty good for us.
ASU is in 1st place in their first season in the Nacho conference 😎
Aloha!
That's because the NCHC is so deep. 🤣
They do have 2 games in hand on WMU, but regardless who would have predicted them to be that far up the ladder?

think what's also just as surprising is that there are just 5 teams over .500. ASU, WMU, Omaha, Denver, UND overall and only 4 teams over .500 in conf play with ASU, WMU, Omaha and UND with Omaha having the advantage of already playing 4 games against a Miami team who hasn't won in the conference.
the conference as a whole looks pretty on its head this year
Non conference winning %
Big Ten .739
Hockey East .711
NCHC .586
The NCHC is no where never as good as the Big Ten and Hockey East.
5 of the 7 Big Ten teams are in the top 15 of Pairwise
3 of the 9 NCHC teams are in the top 10 of Pairwise but their next team is North Dakota at #23.
Colorado College was down 4-1 in the third period at Arizona State but scores three straight goals to tie it at 4.
There is 8 minutes left in the game. The game is on Fox 9+
CC takes the lead 5-4. They've scored 5 goals in the 3rd period.
Arizona State 2-0 after two periods
CC scores 2-1
Arizona State scores two in a row 4-1
CC scores four in a row 5-4
There is 4 minutes left.
BC leads BU 1-0 with 7 minutes left in the 3rd. It is on NESN

CC wins. That one will hurt for ASU for multiple reasons
Omaha sweeps St. Cloud.
St. Cloud is now 4-10-0 in conference games. They've lost 8 straight conference games and 10 of their last 11 conference games.
Next weekend they play at home against the Sue.
Pairwise #26 at Pairwise #27
For comparison Penn State is Pairwise #24
Omaha is in 2nd place in NCHC standings at 10-4-0 (9 of the wins in regulation) and is Pairwise #35.
Talk about a powerhouse conference. 😉 🤣

good news/bad news for SCSU is they still have series vs UND, DU, and WMU left of their 5 so definite chance to move up but yeah they're getting closer and closer to needing to win the tournament week after week, especially given they're 2 games under .500 now
UND also has DU, WMU and Omaha remaining. not going to call any of them dead until it happens. RPI is very weird this time of year in stronger conferences
WI-MI ends in tie so WI goes 1-0-1 to win the season series 2-1-1 but Michigan takes the extra SO point to salvage 2/6 points.
So after this weekend Gophers do not move anywhere in pairwise rankings
Aloha!
PWR 4-16 is so volatile it’s crazy. Freaking UConn is 4th right behind us. They were a bubble team 14 days ago.
I still like our odds to lock up a 1 seed and go to Fargo but we gotta get some wins here. Best thing we have going for us is that the Hockey East teams trying to catch us (UConn, Maine, Providence, BU, Lowell) are all gonna beat each other up. Same with the NCHC teams Denver and Western.

the other portion to keep an eye on is the teams under comparison for many of those teams. Omaha played both UMass and uml. Wisconsin beat UConn. Michigan swept BU. Because of that, our games against wi and mi will mean double in terms of our RPi as well as how it affects our win percentage in the teams under comparison in figuring out h2h by using the win percentages. It’s part of why there’s such a huge amount of volatility as the games are meaning more as it’s swinging those and the resultant pwc amongst multiple teams in a single game. Thing we have going is we have no pwr tanks left on the schedule and the chance to pick up some good road wins with Michigan and a decent pair against PSU which will be good rpi boosts. HE still has a ton of games left so all those teams are going to at least have the opportunity to rise
Not much change this week in rankings
Aloha!
So the Gophers 1 first place vote went to Western.

You need to have a .500 record to get in?
Yes.
When you tell somebody somethin', it depends on what part of the United States you're standin' in... as to just how dumb you are.
Wasn't it Wisconsin that triggered the change in the first place? I can't quite remember.Yes.
