I was able to create a recent topic list based on the recent post search menu selection in the "Community" menu up top. It gives you a list of the most recent topics, the original creator, AND the last time someone posted. It give the 50 most recent topics. Clicking the topics will bring you to the most recent unread post for you.
Obviously something I did in getting set up with the current forum, but I now get an email with each new post on a thread I'm subscribed to. Is there a way to disable that? Thanks!

I hate that feature too since we cannot turn if off. I asked about this exact thing on the wpForo board this morning. We will see how they respond. Hopefully they improve their notification settings in future versions. Or give me some way of turning that off.
The forum that holds this topic is considered an "Extended" forum. All the other forums are "Simple" forums. I really like how topics look in this forum, so I applied this look to all the other forums.

Does anyone get taken to last unread post? I seem to only get sent to the last post on a topic I’ve previously visited.
How can it work if you have never visited a topic? You need to visit it first for the system to know you visited. Just marking it "read" does just that, but you still need to visit a topic in order for the system to know.

The fact that you visited the thread before the change isn't enough, that kind of data isn't the same from one system to another, so you have to start from scratch.
Once I've been into a thread, the "go to first unread" is working great.
in a topic I had visited previously it was taking me to the last post. Not the last one I read. It took me to the last page and the last post I read was on the previous page. Maybe I’m clicking on the wrong thing? ?♀️

Maybe it runs in to issues when there are new posts followed by a new page?
As to where to click, I've just been clicking on the thread name, and it's been taking me to the 1st unread post fairly reliably. The couple times it hasn't, I think have most been for older threads that I haven't opened on the new software.
When you go to this page now it shows the topic, who started the topic, when the last post happened, which forum it is located. Clicking the main topic link will bring you to the first unread post. (if you have visited the topic before) Just below are the most recent posts on the topic, a short snippet of what they said, how long ago that post was and by who. Clicking that link will bring you directly to that particular post.
With this change, there is only ONE menu item for recent topics/posts, since I sorta combined them.
It has taken me a couple days to get a little more proficient navigating GPL but I think I have a pretty good handle on it now and really like it better than how it was before. I really like having the recent topics on the side of the page so that you don't have to click back to the portal page to go to the next unread thread.
I haven't tried navigating it on my phone yet because I usually come on here on my computer because I never liked how the site worked on my phone. I'll have to give that a try here soon, maybe I'll convert my browsing habits.
Overall though I like what you got going on here Jup!

Though no one has really used it yet since it was new back in mid/late April. But it is there to use again. It's in the Community menu.

Okay, I’m still massively confused about how this new site works. Any tips? I’m not sure I understand how the topics/posts are appearing. Can you click on the last page or is that gone? I don’t see pages anymore. Part of my problem is I just returned from a film conference and am detoxing!? New things are overloading my brain.

Something is going on in the Vikings thread with the layout. I have no idea how to describe it, except "enlarged" (nothing dirty, mind you).
This has happened a few times. Basically there is a character or two that corrupted things during the import. I have not gone through every single thread to find these errors. But I removed the bad posts from that thread and it is good to go now.

Just look around a bit, you'll figure it out. Visit some topics and then the go to first unread will start to work. Takes a few days to get the hang of, but it is much better than the previous board.

At the top of each page, toward the right above the actual posts is the page listing (4/4, etc) If you click on that, it brings up a drop-down that you can scroll to the last page to get there.
After you've visited a topic, in the future when you click on it, it will take you to the first unread post.
I also just go to "Community" then "Recent Topics/Posts" and that works. If there's a thread that is buried, then I go to the "Forum" category. I do all my GPLing from laptop, so the easier way MIGHT be different on a cell.
When you tell somebody somethin', it depends on what part of the United States you're standin' in... as to just how dumb you are.

what do you mean - using the recent topics list vs. the recent post list? There’s only the topic title to click on either way, so that’s what I use?

That feature may keep some posts shorter if people will use it. Instead of quoting five paragraphs you can just grab a few sentences rather than like the old way that Rube mentioned.

Looks like there is no solution to this as of right now, which is not great. You CAN at least go to your profile and click the BELL icon to make sure you are not getting an email for each notification.

If you notice at the top of the thread there is a box that lists who made the last post in the thread. You can click on "Last Post" and it will take you there so you don't have to click through each page like you mention.
