We are going back to our roots.

The Vikings, known for their raiding and exploring expeditions from Scandinavia, terrorized parts of Europe from the late 8th to the late 11th centuriesTheir raids, particularly on coastal areas and monasteries, led to widespread fear and disruption, causing significant changes in the region's defense strategies and military forces.

But......the Vikings are also responsible for Russia and its ways.

The Rus',[a] also known as Russes,[2][3] were a people in early medieval Eastern Europe. The scholarly consensus holds that they were originally Norsemen, mainly originating from present-day Sweden, who settled and ruled along the river-routes between the Baltic and the Black Seas from around the 8th to 11th centuries AD.

I SAY THIS IN A HISTORICAL CONTEXT ONLY. "River Kings" by Cat Jarman covers the Vikings' travels, as a bioarcheologist.

When you tell somebody somethin', it depends on what part of the United States you're standin' in... as to just how dumb you are.

The Vikings from modern day Sweden effed Eastern Europe up back in the day. They layed siege to Constantinople for crying out loud.

Looks to be 2 roads games as well. So the Vikings don't lose a home game which make since they'll be in Europe for 2 weeks.

Pretty sure if it were up the the U, they'd be sending out the schedule in the next few weeks.  But, they're completely at the mercy of the B1G, an organization that just objectively doesn't care about hockey fans.

B1G refs... corrupt, or just incompetent?

@steve-mn

I would say the hockey program, yes. The athletic dept, probably yes. The marketing dept, no. The U’s marketing dept, couldn’t think themselves out of a wet paper bag.

Vikings will open in Chicago against the Bears on Sept. 8

What is expected to be quarterback J.J. McCarthy’s first NFL start will be a prime-time return to his home state.  Sources say, the La Grange Park, Ill., native will face a divisional road test in Chicago against new Bears head coach Ben Johnson, the former Lions offensive coordinator, on the opening "Monday Night Football" slate on Sept. 8. The Bears’ busy offseason included a coaching swap and an offensive line overhaul that saw Chicago trade for guards Joe Thuney and Jonah Jackson and sign veteran center Drew Dalman in free agency. The Vikings have won five straight trips to Soldier Field.

I suspect this means the Vikings will play home games in Weeks 2 and 3 since it looks like Weeks 1, 4, & 5 will be road games.

Now that we know the Vikings have $20M to play with what is the general consensus on how they will or should use it?

Common man was talking about Erin Rodgers today.  Do the Vikings still go after a veteran QB?  Do they have money to go after a quality DB or Safety FA?

It's Common Man. I didn't even have to listen to the segment to guess. He loves frothing up local fans and since bringing in Erin would actually be a terrible idea well there you go.

Sadly, now that he has passed, he'll probably be chosen soon. If you ask the question "What's wrong with Halls of Fame?", Jim Marshall being omitted is the best answer you can find. Ridiculous.

Are the Vikings just waiting to see which QB Cleveland cuts?  Or are they expecting to go into this season with Brett Rypien and Max Brosmer as the QB2 and QB3?

J Mac is ready to ROLL on Saturday!!!

Vikings HC Kevin O’Connell said J.J. McCarthy will play in the team’s preseason opener against the Texans.
O’Connell didn’t say how long McCarthy would play, but he did confirm that the second-year signal-caller will see the field for the first time since his preseason debut last season. McCarthy has had a strong training camp by most reports, and enters the season as the unquestioned QB1 with Sam Darnold now in Seattle. We wouldn’t expect McCarthy to play more than a few series before giving way to the backups, but it will be good to see him in action for the first time since his knee surgery.

Max Brosmer on his first series throws a TD pass on 4th down!!!!

Vikings up 20-10

JJ McCarthy played one series 4 of 7 for 30 yards. Three of the completions were to Jordan Addison for 33 yards the other was -3 yards to CJ Ham (apparently the Ham wasn't fresh). He had an 8 yard run for a first down on 4th down. The drive was 13 plays, 58 yards, FG.

Watched a replay of the first half, as usual score not indicative at all in a preseason game. No Houston starters on offense and mostly 1st team for the vaunted Vikings D and HOU rolled thru them and scored a TD. Thought McCarthy looked average and missed some throws. Hard to tell on the offense as Jets is a game changer and didn’t play.

Really not sure what you expected out of JJ…

I was fine with JJ series vs Houston, was about what I expected from him as essentially still a rookie QB

I also didn’t think that many starters on D opened the game. Houston went through them like a hot knife cutting butter…but preseason is meaningless with very vanilla D fronts & schemes.

I thought Addison made a couple really good catches in that opening drive, one that could’ve easily went through his outstretched hands and gone for a pick six. I liked JJ though, he moved pretty good to avoid pressure and made the plays. Every preseason the defense looks the same, everyone marches down and I think oh boy it’s gonna be a long season. The defense is expected to be really solid again.

Was really cool to see Brosmer come out and play well. I was shocked he went undrafted. Thought he absolutely deserved to hear his name called. But I'm glad he's a Viking. He seems like the type of QB who could have a long career as a backup QB in the NFL. Very smart, accurate, decent enough arm to make most throws.

Social media is making a mountain out of an ant hill over 2 guys being on the Vikings cheer squad. It’s typical social media  making it worse just to get people riled up. Personally, I don’t care.

KOC is micd up to join the TV broadcast for the whole 3rd quarter and it’s awesome.   He’s listening to his coordinators call plays and relaying them to the broadcast so you can hear what’s about to be run.

I wish they could do this more often.

IIRC he knew they had a big play coming against the right defensive formation and someone got called for illegal procedure and drew a flag.

I think there are some rather strict regulations on that which could result in fines to the broadcasting company.  So the finance people likely care.

Depends on how many people complained, also. Prob will be a minor fine, no big deal for a broadcasting company of that size. From the sounds of it, it wasn't like he *meant* to say it, it just slipped.

Wasn’t the superbowl but still probably a bit embarrassing. As long as KOC cleans it up by February 😉 it’s a preseason moment for being mic’d up for him too.

The single most important part of playing QB in the NFL is accuracy. When guys have to fall down to catch your throw that’s not good. He has nothing to worry about cause Howell looked even more inaccurate this week. Brosmer is making the QB depth chart decisions very difficult. With Jefferson out we won’t know anything until a couple weeks in.
