I’ve seen zero improvement in McCarthy over last year thru the first 2 preseason games. Not only does he have no business competing for the starting job he’s been outplayed by Wentz. I’d much rather have Wentz come in to a game if need be than McCarthy

The lack of improvement from last season is STUNNING! It certainly appears he doesn’t have it between the ears along with constant nagging injuries, that’s an awful combination.

Josh Dobbs is an actual rocket scientist and he got worse after working with KOC. It's entirely possible that neither McCarthy or O'Connell are very good at their jobs.
I thought the whole novelty around Dobbs being a scientist was that the two professions don’t have much in common.
Regardless, run everyone out of town I don’t care much. Minnesota and football haven’t mixed since the 40s.

JJM should have been coached all offseason on his shorter throws. He can move in the pocket, can look off his main receiver and has a strong arm, but he has no touch throwing underneath. The guy has talent but has been so poorly coached since being drafted.

They could have paid Jones. Sam was gone, wanted too much money (for MN's budget), no blame, no harm, no foul. Jones knew he didn't have a chance to be a starter (that's on the Vikes) so he bolted. JJ could have sat for a year or two. Have to play the long game, and too few teams fully understand that when it comes to rookies/young players.

I wish I hadn't seen them at all. Don't like the numbers, the scripting of Vikings above the number, and I rarely if ever like a monochrome look from head to toe and this is one of those examples.
I like some of the Norse touches, but agreed not on the text or numbers. The little decoration on the shoulders is cool. Biggest problem for me this really the shade of purple. I get that using the regular shade doesn’t make them different enough, but it’s just too dark and looks weird.
I really like them, including text and numbers. However, I listen to a lot of Scandinavian metal (like Amon Amarth) and this gets closer to that aesthetic. If you're going to be the Vikings, lean into it for a secondary jersey, rather than just a generic concept. I think they did that here and I like it.
In fact Amon Amarth has a new song called "Gjhallerhorn", that I think would play well as a Vikings taking the field song. (although in their case the Gjallerhorn is a drinking vessel). But I am aware I am in the far minority there.
I still think the U should take the bit in the middle of "Put your back into the oar" as the entrance music for the Football team. It would fit so perfectly.

I think he has been coached. He isn’t a first round draft pick and the team just doesn’t coach him. At some point it’s on him as a player to learn and do better. If he can’t, he just doesn’t have it. His footwork is still horrible. I guarantee that is one of the things they’ve spent so much time focusing on and he’s just not improving.
JJM is Drew "The Statue" Bledsoe without a feather touch on passes. I won't write him off yet, I stress yet, HOWEVER, the outlook is not good right now.

Draft time thought the pick was the position to draft. They didn’t move up in a big way for the top tier qb’s so they pick jjm and passed on Bo Nix (no pun intended) who was more experienced and “more ready now” coming from pass heavy Oregon compared to run heavy Michigan. I thought they’d maybe go Nix but not surprised. The vikings and ESPN over estimated jjm, and their labeled qb friendly system. Sure Looks like a bust pick right now, not completely writing it off but yeah not good. The uniform thing I don’t really get into, I think good teams can wear anything they want and look good, teams with issues seem to not wear it well.

Bo Nix is 26 years old, JJ McCarthy is 23 years old, four years ago at 22 years old Bo Nix was coming off a season where he was benched at Auburn. He was a legacy at Auburn (his father was a good starting QB for Auburn) but was still benched after playing 3 seasons at Auburn. Because of covid (players getting 5 years) he was able to play two years at Oregon.

This is a good point. JJM could still blossom into a great QB. But also does make you wonder why the Vikings thought JJM was the better player to draft at that time.
At some point shouldn't we start seeing SOME flashes of brilliance? I know people were excited about the long completion he had last week. At the same time the receiver did have to come back to the ball and make a great play. Against a starting DB, that might have been an incompletion or an INT.
I was excited about drafting JJM. On KFAN last year they discussed multiple times that the coaching staff tried to overhaul his throwing technique which may have had him discombobulated. The KFAN crew expected JJM to eventually come around once he felt comfortable. He never seemed to get to that comfort zone and instead it seemed the coaches decided to take the handcuffs off him and let him play HIS style and he showed potential... for a bit. But now I feel like he is regressing.
Denver will not help his comfort and happy feet this next game. Unless he plays out of his mind there’s little chance he looks good and gains any confidence in himself or any fan base trust. Just my thought.

For me it’s been like “fools gold” in years past if they look good in preseason so to your point, meaningless. On the flip side more often than not if they look bad now it’s a sign for things to come. Trying to keep my hopes up for them but I’m just not thrilled about Kyler Murray or the running game. Hopefully I’m wrong, I love the Vikings but as a fan I’m not pumped up about them like some years going in.

@bearpaw28 I’m not sure Wentz isn’t their number one. I like Murray for his athleticism in this offense but he’s been criticized for not seeing the field well so there’s that. Yep, he’s a free ticket and that part helps. See how it goes, he had a hard time getting the ball to Marvin Harrison jr. hoping that’s not the case here with Jefferson. That’s really what it comes down to for me. Hey siri play keep the faith.😉🤩😇

IMO, non KFAN biased (as they were talking about this on Sunday Sermons) I think the Vikes still think Max has a place here...somewhere...and they can't get anything for JJ right now. They don't want to risk Max on the practice squad (clearing waivers, etc, looking at MIA who only has ONE QB on the roster right now).
Carson is prob #2, badly kept secret.

But still, that other QB got cut for NO ONE. He lost his job to NO ONE.

Speaking of often injured. Kyler has played one full season in the last 5 years. Most years he missed about half the games. The Vikings didn't exactly pick up an Iron Man.
Career passer rating of 92. Pretty mid, which is better than McCarthy was projecting. Hope Kyler proves me wrong and rushes for 900 and 10 TDs like his early years.

I have mentioned Murray's inability to play a full season a few times, and the Vikings were one of the worst teams last season for allowing QB pressures. If the OL and running game don't improve...

He's a backup at best for a non-injury prone QB, prob 3rd stringer. I have no delusions. He keeps hanging on, though.
