Darnold wasn't a turnover machine yesterday.
I think he still had a FBL and one game does not a season make.

That wasn’t entirely on him. It was a toss to Aaron Jones who was looking at the line and forgot to catch the ball.

That was on Jones, the second one this year. kOC said today that they might have to stop running pitch plays if he keeps having trouble. Weird cause he’s a good receiver.

Not sure why he got the FBL it was a toss to Jones who dropped it as it hit his hands.
Darnold is fine but he is definitely not the future of the team nor is he a starter on a team that has eyes on postseason success. Part of that is though that KOC.
I figure it is a fumble because it isn’t a pass, and it isn’t on Jones because he never possessed it.
But yes still silly, because it was definitely Jones’ fault.
As I recall, yes, any toss to a RB like that which results in a fumble is technically on the QB because the RB never controlled the ball (even in a situation like this where it's clear it isn't the QBs fault)I figure it is a fumble because it isn’t a pass, and it isn’t on Jones because he never possessed it.

B1G refs... corrupt, or just incompetent?
It comes down to a technicality. Jones never possessed the ball regardless of the quality of the pitch. So it goes to the guy that last possessed it.
Interesting how Darnold isn't the guy nor is he a guy you bet on if you want to make the post season. But Cousins was/is the guy and was/is the guy for 2 teams trying to get over the hump & into the post season. Yet both are putting up almost identical numbers.

I liked Cousins but I never thought he would lead us to a Super Bowl. I think he got a lot of grief he didn't deserve though which was obnoxious.
Darnold has outplayed pretty much all expectations. I hate whenever I hear people rip him because I doubt anyone seriously thought he would be 8-2 as a starter. I have no issue keeping him around as an insurance policy but he is just not a long term solution.
I liked Cousins, and thought he had a chance to lead the Vikes to a Bowl, but he didn't have the defense. Was he a "get on my back, I got you" guy? No. He was a very good cog for a team to move forward.
When you tell somebody somethin', it depends on what part of the United States you're standin' in... as to just how dumb you are.
I think Darnold is much better than Cousins at improvising when a play breaks down, Cousins inability to do this is his #1 issue as a QB. He’s great if everything goes according to plan, but throughout the course of an NFL game, that rarely happens. But I have no ill will towards Cousins, he was signed by a team whose HC (Zimmer) never wanted him. Accordingly, Cousins play improved when KOC took over. Darnold has played beyond what anybody expected start of season, but having a starting QB on a rookie contract helps significantly toward the CAP so I expect McCarthy will be given the reins next season.
I do agree on improv, but that could be b/c Darnold is a bit more mobile than Cousins.

10mil on your QB vs 50 lets you have a whole lot more pieces and is clearly why the D has improved so much. question will be if mccarthys physically and mentally ready by next year or not to take that move all the way and have the rookie deal.
These QB contracts (and to a lesser extent the WR) contracts will blow up someday. Redistribution of wealth, so it's back to a team, and not a roster of players with a couple superstars. I actually applauded Ricky Williams' contract back in the day. He basically took a cut to try and win a ring. He could have made SO much money....

If KOC has proven anything it's his ability to coach QBs and from everything I've read JJ is an attentive and willing student......will be an interesting storyline next year.

@bearpaw28 Sorry, just isn't accurate. Cousin's best statistical years with the Vikes were 19' & 20'. His worst year was 22', O'Connell's first.
What we know in hindsight is Cousins isn't worth that money and how it could be used otherwise. The Vikes found out and now the Atlanta Falcons are.
@team2tank Statistically you’re correct, but in 22 Cousins led more 4th Qtr comebacks than I re-call him doing earlier with the Vikings. When it comes to his contract…Cousins is the definition of an unapologetic mercenary.
Aloha!
First half - Chicago fg attempt is blocked, Vikings drive down the field and score a TD.
Third quarter - Vikings punt, ball hits DeAndre Carter, MN recovers and punches it in for a TD.
Bears gonna Bear.

@mnnavy Vikings determined to make this a lot closer than it needed to be. Credit the offense for the late FG but what a crappy 10 minutes by the defense.
Like clockwork.

This team is shit.
KOC coaching decisions (short kick, going for it on 4th for no reason) have bitten him badly.
Neither of these teams deserves to win this game
Full OT keeps the slackers off in this market so I’m in favor.

Better to lucky than good!
Neither of these teams deserves to win this game
Apparently the Bears deserved it less 😉
Darnold with a heckuva day!
The Vikings are on the road three straight weeks and go 3-0
4 straight wins overall
What a clutch OT by both the defense and the offense
Defense gets a 3 and out
Offense drives 10 plays, 68 yards
The Vikings get their 6th win away from US Bank Stadium
5-1 on the road
1-0 in London
3-1 at US Bank stadium
9-2 overall playing only 4 of their first 11 games at home
Nobody thinks the Vikings are going to make it to the Super Bowl (myself included) but they are certainly having a good season that has been fun to watch.
The Vikings lead the league in ave points in the 1st quarter. I have to imagine it goes slowly downhill from there. Would be nice to see them have more of a killer instinct and step on some throats, but good to see them gut out the win in OT.
After the FG to go up by 11, I turned the game off & let my dogs out. Turn it back on & they’re doing the coin toss for OT. 😳 🤬 What a terrible play by Johnny Mundt on Bears onside kick.
Good poise by Darnold & great game by Addison! Viking kicker came through too! Saved Johnny Mundt’s ass…who also had a false start on the OT winning drive. But…a win is a WIN. 😄
They play down to their competition week in and week out
Aloha!
Look at last years Cowboys and Dolphins records. Impressive, right?FYP 😉This team is shit.
Yeah the 9-2 team (kind of) shit. 🤡
Cowboys didn't beat a winning team all year.
Dolphins beat one winning team, and that was the Cowboys.
Just saying, records aren't everything.

Some head scratching moments for special teams all around the league today, it seems.
The Bears did a good job on Jefferson holding him to 2 catches for 17 yards but Darnold said ok I will just beat you with Addison (8 catches, 162 yards, 1 TD) and Hockenson (7 catches for 114 yards).
The Vikings had 452 yards of total offense on a day Jefferson had 17 yards.
Jefferson did draw a big 35 yard passing inference penalty (taking the ball from the Bears 41 to 6) that set up the Nailor 5 yard TD catch.
When the TV announcer said, NFL teams are 0/10 this year in onside kicks… I admittedly said out loud you cursed the Vikings and the Bears well execute this onside kick.
Keep your stick on the ice...
Vikings remaining sch:
vs. Arizona
vs. Atlanta
vs. Chicago (MNF)
@ Seattle
vs. Green Bay
@ Detroit
I see 4-2, maybe 5-1. At worse 3-3, unless the team takes a major nose dive. Even at 12-5 should put the Vikings in the playoffs, unless some of these 5-5 teams run the table and things get funky.
Keep your stick on the ice...
This team is shit.
Yeah the 9-2 team is shit. 🤡
Thus the correction I already made. Still waiting for your explanation of why Notre Dame goals 2 & 3 last night were Airey’s fault.
what exactly has Airey done this season for people to vehemently defend him?
I mean he is 8-0 with a 90% save percentage and giving up 2.3 goals per game. (4-0 91% and 2.26 in conference) I mean he isn't Ryan Miller but he he has done his job and then some. And neither of the goals in the 2nd period were his fault...hell on one he made at least 1 stop while the D stood there with his thumb up his butt. If the Gophers had scored goals that way I doubt you would be saying it was all the goalie's fault.
As for Karlsson posting about the Vikes...he tends to overreact in game. Much like you did with Airey 😉
KOC coaching decisions (short kick, going for it on 4th for no reason) have bitten him badly.
Agree with his decisions continuing to be concerning, it’s a weekly theme especially as the game goes on. The Vikings typically start out fast on offense when things are more scripted and then they lose momentum almost like clockwork.
Absolutely no issue going for it 4 & 1 from the Bears 36 where the conversion average of that play is 82%. Up by 14, convert and it’s over.
The issue and the head scratcher he made is not having Darnold under center? Shotgun on a 4-1? They lost the short yardage advantage it might as well had been a 4-5.
They should have ran which they were owning Chicago all day with. Too predictable, fine Darnold under center, play action with the option to roll out and/or easy pick up throw. Instead he’s in the shotgun and it turned into a 50/50 play.
Yeah that is what I meant...its not really going for it that is the issue it is the bad play call. Shotgun there makes zero sense you take away your advantage. Under center you have every tool in your arsenal and the D has to play for the QB or RB dive or the (stupidly allowed) tush push. In the shotgun there is almost zero chance you are running meaning they can spread the D out a bit and even blitz. Why make them ignore half the playbook when you need very little yardage?
Again I like aggressive play calls and going for the dagger but its about more than being aggressive. You have to put yourself in the best position to succeed and they did not. Darnold is at his best in play action and the threat to run is real as both RBs were getting good chunks of yardage. If you want to pass just call a play action pass under center and throw a high percentage throw. Make the defense react and put them on their heels.
But honestly we abandon the run way too fast when the clock is on our side so much I wonder why we even put the RBs in the game. So odd...
As for Karlsson posting about the Vikes...he tends to overreact in game.
It is football. Can’t figure it out. I could be watching two teams I don’t care about and it’ll get under my skin. I probably shouldn’t watch, which honestly as a Minnesotan might be for the best in the long run. 😂
@gator I don't know, I like your optimism but they have their work cut out for them. These last 6 games are more difficult than their first 5.
Give them credit for winning 4 in a row, 3 on the road. Only 5 teams in the league are on 4 game win streaks right now, its tough to do. But this team doesn't have a lot of momentum right now for being on a win streak and 9-2. It looked like they were creating some yesterday headed into a tough schedule and then it all went poof.
Last four games opponent record 3.5 wins, 11.25 losses, they just played some real bad teams. About to head into a 6.66 wins / 4.33 losses stretch, buckle up.
Maybe the better opponents will bring out some better quality play and a higher level, they need it. Cause right now this looks like a 12-5 type of team getting bounced Wildcard weekend to a 9-8 Falcons or Seahawks team.
I mean Arizona and Seattle are 6-5 and leading a mediocre division so while yes they are playoff "contenders" it isn't like they are setting the world on fire. Same holds true for the Falcons. Honestly the toughest games that I see are the Pack and Detroit followed by at Seattle. Going 3-3 should not be that much of a chore if they are any good at all.
@handyman The point is all of the teams that they are about the play, each one is better than what they just played the last 4 games, except the Bears as we play the Bears one more time.
Yes, they absolutely can win most of these games when you look at in game by game. But in the aggregate if they keep playing like this there isn't going to be any 5-1 or 4-2, they need to step it up.
In 2022 we lost to a 9-7-1 in the first round at home. This season is starting to feel similar to that one.
These next 3 games are at home and would be big if they could start playing better and keep winning. Detroit has Chi, GB, Buf coming up.
