His left foot was still on the line. VAR checked it.

Wowww, what a shift. 2 in under 2 minutes for Benzema.

They were looking 0-2 in the face, under 5 minutes later they're up 2-1

I picked the wrong day to not record the games. Watching the extended highlights makes it a little better.

Benzema’s first goal was a reminder of how fun it is to watch a world class finisher. That touch was incredible.

Morata’s goal for Spain wasn’t far behind it either

England slays one of their international demons, defeating Germany 2-0 and moving on to the quarterfinals in the Euros.

There's a small devilish side of me hoping England makes the final only to lose on another Hand of God type of goal or in PKs. Mr. Green

I had no idea it had been since the 66 World Cup final that they had bested Germany in a match that mattered. Incredible streak. That second goal was beautiful. Happy Low is gone and Flick will replace him. Huge upgrade for Germany.

Would love to see Belgium or England take it.

Even the Maple Leafs laugh at England. ;)

Flick doesn’t have much time prior to the World Cup but just a change in tactics and a few tweaks to the roster should help a ton

And that sound you hear is Belgium's golden generation starting to slip through their fingers.

I had no dog in this fight. However since all soccer media in the US is just re-hashed British media, I'm kinda glad Italy won.

Man, how do you put Saka in that position to take that pen. 19 years old, never taken a penalty in his senior career. Feel bad for the kid.

Also very England to have your two subs that you brought on specifically for penalties both miss, lol

I completely agree!!! One of the more veteran players (Kane, McGuire, Rashford, Sterling) should be in the pressure spot of taking the 5th kick. Not cool at all to do this to a 19 year old.

BTW Tim Howard agrees with us. ESPN should hire us when his TV contract is up. :D

It was kind of frustrating after the match ESPN had a British guy and an Italian guy on set. They let the British guy talk forever and barely let the Italian guy speak.

USMNT takes the lead against Jamaica, with Matthew Hoppe's first international goal!

Winner takes on Qatar in the semifinal. 4 minutes to close it out.

Not liking what I am seeing so far.

Qatar being given way too much space.

Yeah that was a rough first half. Qatar is really solid going forward, but they can be beaten at the back. Hopefully we come out a bit more cohesive here in the second half.

I don't the penalty call. The ref was in the perfect spot saw the play live called no penalty then checks the play on VAR which clearly shows the US defender touched the ball (which I thought makes it no penalty)? Qatar player misses the penalty so I guess it doesn't matter but I am still confused on the rule/call.

Pretty wild Stat that John Strong just read there. The Qatari players have ON AVERAGE 50 more caps than the USMNT players have.

This Qatari team has been playing together for like a decade lol

The Gold Cup!

CONCACAF's main tournament. Just like the European Championships that just happened a few weeks ago, with North American teams.

Nit pick, but it's North America, Central America, and the Caribbean plus an occasional guest, like tonight's opponent.

But what was the CONCACAF Nations League tournament? Wink

It’s so very CONCACAF to spoil their biggest tournament with a tournament a month earlier. Most countries agreed as they sent their B and even C squads to the Gold Cup.

Looks like a US vs Mexico final. Judging by the game they played about a month ago it might get 'sporty'.

Yeah nobody really knows what the Nations League is/was... LoL

But the thought of beating Mexico in 2 finals in the same summer is just *chefs kiss*

You wonder how long this new coach is going to last. I know the team is getting pretty long in the tooth but this isn’t a great start to your head coaching stint

Yeah I haven't been entirely thrilled with how he's setting up the team. Going for the draw against Australia was a bad move, IMO.

From what I've read elsewhere it's damn near impossible to age out women from the NT due to how they are paid/contracted and unfortunately it's going to lead to years in which they're not as talented as they should be if they could replace some of the older players.

Wait, are the women really "contracted" to the USWNT?? I mean I know they get paid obviously, but any sort of contract that is requiring them to be on the team would be news to me.

It certainly doesn't work that way in men's international football, as far as I know. Manager just picks the best team from the pool of players and goes with it. Is it not the same for women?

It's not 100% clear what the details are, but the timing of this is coincidental:

https://www.washingtonpost.com/sports/2021/07/30/usmnt-supports-uswnt-equal-pay/

Quote:
The men’s team argued that, contrary to the judge’s ruling, the women had been “pressured” to accept “an unfair and unequal" collective bargaining agreement.

When the women’s agreement was negotiated, the brief claims, the men were “stunned” that US Soccer had not agreed to offer them equal pay, refusing to even meet the terms of the contract the men had negotiated six years earlier.

Uses the phrase "collective bargaining agreement".

Definitely a union contract involved.

There's a lot of complexity in terms of salary vs pay per game played, provision of medical insurance or not, and the fact that the 50% of the FIFA bonus for winning the World Cup that the women's contract calls for is considerably less than the 25% of the FIFA bonus the men's contract calls for (had they somehow won the WC).

The irony of the situation is not only that the women would have made more money if they'd had the men's contract... the men would have made more money if they'd had the women's contract.

B1G refs... corrupt, or just incompetent?

Imagine how much money the men would make if they had the women's record!
