Count me in as well. Not a fan of Vegas in the least, but Dallas? I'd sooner choke slowly on barbed wire. I had a dear Aunt I was quite close to, who was originally from Brooklyn. As a youngster, I learned first hand the incredible loathing one had for a franchise which had abandoned their fans. I've put that to good use over the 30 years since the North Stars left. I'm just hoping for a fun series, but I'll pull for Florida to win it all.The good news is Dallas lost.
The bad news is Vegas won.
Yep. I couldn't root for Dallas since they stole my North Stars. And I couldn't root for Vegas since they were gifted a playoff team out of the chute.
I'll be cheering for FL in the Final. Weird.
Same....it is weird...
Suter may be a top 4 for now, but he's falling really fast. His age has caught up to him.

Watching a couple of those breakdowns of plays, I would tend to agree.
When you tell somebody somethin', it depends on what part of the United States you're standin' in... as to just how dumb you are.
Have a friend or two huge into bouncyball, so much like soccer, I pay attention enough to know what the heck he's talking about. 😉

Go panthers!!! Their pregame lineup show in Vegas reminds me of rocky IV’s exebition match circus with appolo and the Russian. Geezaloo
Bob looked human in that one.
Overall a fun game 1. Lots of up and down that could’ve gone either way. Cousins will be replaying that one a long time and Panthers have to feel they’re ok with the 3-4 posts they hit tonight beating Hill clean. Will be curious if the teams try button it up more and play D and clog the neutral zone or if they’re both ok with this slightly more open game

The whole experience at a Vegas game is a 'dog and pony' show. From pregame through postgame, both in and out of T-Mobile. It's part of the Vegas experience, but for their fans. I don't think it would go over well in the true hockey markets both here in the States and Canada.

These stripes are pathetic both in Game 1 and so far in Game 2.

Vegas seems to have found something to exploit that Boston, Toronto, and Carolina couldn’t.
Yeah Vegas is feelin it, they’re clicking and getting good screens and drawing penalties that could or could not be called. It’s looking like such a fast physical game the refs don’t know where to draw the line in this one. Letting this go, calling that.

Same with tv whores who stand up, wave or do whatever during playing to try to be on tv.

Eichel is lucky his head is still attached
It’s amazing how the stripes see the extracurricular for one team and turn a blind eye to the other.

Feels like Florida came in with a reputation and the refs are almost on the lookout for everything. The hockey generally has been fast and fun, but man I could do with less of them handing out misconducts repeatedly

That's a fair assessment.
Vegas is just in a zone at home these first two games. Florida made a showing in both games and with some luck, could have snagged a win. Last night, everything Vegas threw at the net went in. That stuff happens.
It will be tougher for Florida to come back against Vegas than the other teams they played. Now in an 0-2 hole, Game 3 is a must-win, and Game 4 pretty much is too. They can't go back to Vegas 1-3.
Florida is a team of cockroaches—they're hard to kill. But I think the layoff hurt them. They were pistol hot and a long rest only hurts a team like that unless there are injuries.
2 games in a row without o.t what the heck?
Yeah Bob didn’t have a ton of help but he also didn’t make big saves like he did against Toronto either. He needs to up his game for them to have a chance because that’s probably the main advantage Florida has in this series.

You would think Vegas fans are reincarnated UND fans. They want Tkachuk to serve at least a game suspension for his clean check in Game 2 on Eichel. Though its hard nose clean hockey for Kolesar's check on Tkachuk in Game 3.

Florida wins in OT

FL 7-0 in OT for these playoffs, that doesn’t even seem possible
That ending (FLA tying it with 2 minutes left in 3rd & then winning in OT)...AWESOME! I simply can’t root for Vegas. Hoping for a long series…

Boldy
NHL Games Played 128
Goals 46
Assists 56
Pts 102
Salary $7M/year
Caufield
NHL Games Played 123
Goals 53
Assists 31
Pts 84
Salary $7.85M/year
Last season Caufield played in only 46 games (torn labrum surgery) with very lopsided scoring with 26G and 10A. I personally am always less impressed by players who have a high G:A ratio.
Caufield had 2 primary assists in 830 minutes of 5x5 and power playbtime ladt year. For context, Ryan Reaves had 5 in less than 600 minutes.YikesThe little guy from the BADgers gets an 8 year deal worth about 62.8 million with a 7.85 average per year. That’s embarrassing. Yet he’s getting paid.
I tend to agree with the high goals to assist ratio not being ideal, especially when the primary assists are that worse. The only exception to that rule is Ovechkin and nobody can shoot as consistently well as him with the same shot volume.

Glad to see the keyboard/phone buried there... not sure Carter knew what he was getting into, Russo was scared for his career and Dumba certainly helped out.
Gotta give Russo a ton of credit for taking the high road during that mess. Personally, I wish he would've ended Carter's "career".Anson Carter complimenting Russo and an article in the Athletic.

Finally a nice setup and goal by the Panthers. Nice - go FLA!
series seems pretty well over unless Bob can steal one given Vegas just looks better from front to back. Heard during the call the other night that the only guy on the team that Vegas has drafted in Hague. Hate how the NHL let them build this team and clear the advantage that can come when you have access plus all the contracts already in front of you. Just another reason to dislike Vegas to me

Yes, I would agree that a team that's been around for 6 years and playing in not one but two Stanley Cup finals deserves an asterisk when they hoist their shiny trophy.
Sure, they picked the right players. Kudos to them. But to jump ahead of other teams because they had no need for the draft is a joke.
The irony is that Florida of all teams gave away Marchessault and Smith for free. Pretty sure the same was true for Karlsson with Columbus and if Buffalo wasn’t a complete joke who questioned Eichel’s surgery they might still have him in the org.
I get why Wild fans are bitter at how the expansion draft changed but not sure it explains their current success really.
There were so few protected players that teams were throwing draft picks and solid players at Vegas to protect assets. Meanwhile, the Wild drafted Pooh Richardson.
Also still bitter at how the league changed the handling of contracts immediately following the Wild signing Parise and Suter without allowing the Wild to back out or renegotiate. And here we are with a $14M handicap for years in a row.
There’s some truth to that but it’s not like Florida had to get rid of Marchessault/Smith and keep a prospect who’s now in the AHL (not surprisingly that anti-analytics GM is gone). I suppose teams technically didn’t know guys with no movement clauses would have to be kept when signing those contracts years earlier but the GMs gave those out like candy to mid tier players and it had consequences.
You do need to give Vegas some credit for going in on the right trades in Eichel and Stone, two guys who were jettisoned off dumpster fire orgs for lesser players/prospects/picks. They also clearly have enough depth on D/goalie to go with four different goaltenders and not miss a beat. That’d be a death sentence for most teams.
Vegas is showing how to finish off a team and win a series (The Cup). Also, Cooley reminds me of the way Eichel is playing tonight with the way he handles the puck. Fun to watch.
I'm 50% factual and 50% sarcastic. When you get to know me, you will know which is which.
When Vegas wins tonight on home ice, if the fans boo Bettman... then they are a bunch of idiots. They should be cheering him louder than the team.
The expansion draft happened 6 years ago lol.
The expansion draft happened 6 years ago lol.
Ignoring the complete change in the expansion draft rules;
Bettman has fought harder than anyone for "sun belt" teams. You had guys like the Blackberry guy trying to get a team in Hamilton, Quebec city building an arena, etc. Bettman says nope, lets keep the Coyotes in AZ and add a team in Vegas.
Gretzky said it most accurately. Vegas is insanely deep, and that’s the advantage I think they were given. Their defense is loaded with playoff type guys who smother and block shots. They’ve got 4 lines who can score. You couldn’t protect everyone in the draft and it set them up for success. Kudos to them for capitalizing on it, but to act like they weren’t given a huge advantage isnt telling the full story
The change made sense though, even if the wild got screwed by the old rules. The expansion draft happened 6 years ago lol.

Having hockey succeed in other non traditional markets is a good idea, probably one of the few things Bettman has gotten correct. Arizona being owned by cheap doofuses notwithstanding.
