Aloha!
Names are starting to leak..See below...
Before side deals are announced, and before all picks have been leaked, I don't think Seattle came away nearly as strong as Vegas did. Better handle of it later.

No surprise Seattle took Soucy, he’s a solid NHL level D & not that expensive .

And now that once vaunted defense, which is pretty much all they had for years, is gutted.
I think it’s a slight surprise with a potential (future) number one goalie (Kahkonen) available (with a next to nothing contract), but Seattle is obviously putting its faith in Driedger and Vanecek.

Do you mean they cut over to Stephen A Smith on some kind of rant until they realized it wasn't a basketball show?

Wasn’t your fault. There were spoilers abound apparently.
Looks like a lot of GMs learned their lesson from last time and just lost a player instead of giving picks to Seattle to take someone else.

2014 Frozen Four Gopher killer Gostisbehere traded with 2 draft picks to Arizona for "future considerations". The Coyotes now have added 2 high salary pieces and 5 draft picks in exchange for basically nothing.

Vancouver would seem more natural.

Yes, just the NHL will put their hands in it and not just let it happen naturally.

Buffalo picks up another 1st round pick, #13, from Philly. That is around the Lucius projected area.

B1G refs... corrupt, or just incompetent?
Could this have been a loop hole for the Wild to rid themselves of either Parise or Suter contracts?

Guessing Fleury didn't have a NMC in the contract

I think the front loading of their contracts made this result impossible for the Wild.
I kinda doubt Fleury wants to retire so that whole saga is interesting. Could maybe see him come back to Pittsburgh.
Happy Free Agent day. Couple of notes so far.. Mikey Reilly re-signs with the Bruins, 3 years at 3m per year.
Nate Schmidt could be moved to Winnipeg today.
Tampa doing Tampa things by trading Tyler Johnson and a pick to Chicago for the contract of retired player Seabrook.

He choose the ?which he has every right to. But…I think Stars shot at a SC next 3-4 years is far less than Isles or Bruins who evidently at least had some interest in Suter ☝️

Goligoski gets $5M while Suter gets $3M. I know there is an age difference of a few years, but Suter scores a lot more than Goligoski. Is Goli THAT much better on the defensive side than Suter?

No, but there's a reason it was one year. Come early January he likely signs an extension in which he'll get paid $1-2M a year. If things are going well, of course.

I’d argue Goli is better & will score more offensively this season & that Suter was decent defensively but starting to slip. But.. the bottom line… is BG didn’t want Suters entitled attitude & mouth in the Wild locker room & that’s why he’s gone…
Goli had 22 points in 56 games last season, has been mostly healthy since 2013-14 and averages around 23 TOI. Suter had 19 points in 56 games with roughly similar games played since 2014 and had 22 TOI last season - by far his lowest in more than a decade. Seems like a wash there and if Goli is a better locker room guy? Obviously speculation on my part.
Wow. Grubauer to SEA. Avs need a goalie.

True, but year over year Goli averages about 24-32 points while Suter is in the 47-50 points range.
Last season, Suter had fewer PPG, so maybe he hit a wall....but still similar to Goli.
Maybe this is an agreement for Goligoski to get paid up front with contract extensions for less money next year. But that sounds like something that wouldn't be allowed.

Get over it regarding Suter. His best days are in the rear view mirror. He can still play, but he got points in earlier years because he was on the 1st PP unit. So was Koivu. That’s ain’t happening for Suter going forward in Dallas. Goli will see PP time for the Wild

Yeah but I think those days are long past for Ryan. Obviously anything can happen but these 2 look to be on similar trajectories and I'm not sure this season should reflect a dropoff in swapping these 2. Time will tell.

I'm over Suter. I'm just trying to reconcile the $5M Goligoski got when Suter signed for $3M. I get that you love the Goligoski signing.
I'm still trying to figure out if Guerin is a genius or a complete idiot.

Russo suggested there might be a $2M extension happening for 2022-23 on Jan. 1, but that wouldn't work cap wise for AAV to make official today. Goli could always sign somewhere else for more next year if it doesn't seem like a good fit too.
Alex was born in 1985 like Suter. I get the buyouts, I don’t get giving Alex 5 million, even for one season.

The Aves gave up their 1st round pick in 2022 as part of the deal. They obviously needed a goalie badly and Phoenix knew it.
I like the trade…since I don’t see Kuemper being the type of #1 goalie the Avs (or any team) needs to hoist a Stanley Cup.
