Alabama lost, Wisco lost, Nebraska lost. It was a good weekend.
The thing I like about Deon Sanders… all the naysayers… All the naysayers would be drooling and jumping up and down if he was the coach of their team. Even at Georgia… even at Alabama… even at Michigan… at Ohio State… and yes here at Minnesota.
He and Fleck come from the same pea pod.
No I wouldn't and no they aren't. Just because they might talk the same game does not make them the same and if you knew anything about Fleck you would know that.
I happen to like Deion, but I would not want him to be coach here for about a dozen reasons. First of all he would run off the whole team, second he would almost certainly pull something shady, he would antagonize the fans and the media, he would be out of here the second a better job appeared and his style would get annihilated in the current Big Ten. (there is more that is just off the top of my head)
Colorado was in such a bad place it had to sell out to him just to bring any sort of excitement to the worst P5 program. When he ditches them it will kill them like it did the Gophs when Holtz went to Notre Dame. He doesn't build programs, he builds All Star teams. That may work for a season, but sooner or later the house of cards will fall and he will make sure not to be there for it...and he will take any eligible talent with him when he bolts.
Man Mel Tucker is maybe the dumbest guy alive...

The MSU AD who signed him for one billion dollars is right up down there, too. But yeah, what a dope.

I'm a big fan of Deion Sanders ever since he played at FSU and the Braves. And where would he go, that's so much better than Colorado, if he has all these negative qualities.

And this is why and punishments on programs should follow the coach. I've never understood why a college program can be punished, but the coach bails and no real punishments.

All is right with the world with the win in Ames. With that said, this game can go away now with the expansion of the B1G upcoming. Both fan bases have ruined the atmosphere of this game in recent years so I think this should be the swan song. I mean that by too many fans are treating this like their Super Bowl. I have treated this game that way in the past but as I have grown up this game has been what I gauge that year's Hawkeyes team expectations. Last year is a case in point. Iowa didn't deserve to win and didn't and ended up with a very forgettable season.
Iowa's offense is still awful behind the awful play calling by Brian Ferentz. The running joke on Twitter is that Ferentz should script 50 plays instead of the first 15 since those 15 are the only ones that work. Iowa's defense is Iowa's defense, bend don't break. Hopefully some more reps next week against Western Michigan will help Iowa improve on both sides of the ball.

@greyeagle I think the money to sign Tucker came from Mat Ishba, the current owner of the Phoenix Suns.
MSU once again suffers because of the behavior of a small number of individuals, but after a while one has to wonder what leads to these choices?

Is Jr. on the hot seat yet? Even at 2-0. Scoring 20 and 24 points against non BIG competition is under his goal of 26 points.

With Barta gone now that is the million dollar question whether the interim AD Beth Goetz will hold Jr to that 25 point mark. Hawk fans are certainly done with him after last year and the two games so far this season. I see the lack of offense a 50/50 thing of play calling and on field execution, which some of the blame still lands on the offensive coordinator. While Sr may have wanted to pave the way for Jr to become head coach, there is NO WAY in hell that the Board of Regents, major donors, and alumni will let that happen.
To go back to your original question, who knows if Jr is feeling any heat at all from the AD since she just took over on August 1st. She hasn't really been pushed on that topic yet. A few more games like the Hawkeyes have had and some sports writers will start to push that question to the front.

I just have to say eff the NCAA. Iowa defensive tackle Noah Shannon had his year long suspension appeal denied by the sham of a organization. Shannon was suspended after he self reported himself while the targeted investigation of student athlete gambling in the state of Iowa. While most every other student athlete was charged with the crime of tampering with records and fined and given several week suspensions. Shannon bet on the Iowa Women's basketball team to win last season through an app on his phone. He was never charged with a crime at all but was given a one year suspension by the NCAA. This ends his college football career.
This whole gambling investigation thing has been effed up from the beginning. I understand that the Iowa Gaming Commission is a part of this but the NCAA has stepped in and only handed out one suspension...Shannon. Also, full context quite a few others that were charged with tampering with records have left the Iowa and Iowa State football teams after being indicted. The other sham in this whole investigation is that it seems that 90% of the people being charged are from the football programs at each school. No regular students have been charged with tampering with records in relation to online/phone gambling. The whole thing stinks and Noah Shannon gets the shaft.
I know that the simple thing to do is not gamble while you're underage or a student athlete at a big university...though it only matters if you are a student athlete at Iowa or Iowa State.
Rant over.

Nico Ragaini was reprimanded after he criticized the B1G officiating crew for a blow pass interference call last Saturday. He may be on double secret probation. Here is the clip that led to the B1G to "publicly reprimand" Ragaini...there are a couple cuss words in this clip so volume down if you are at work.

Sorry but he did not get the shaft. He admitted he bet on the basketball games. His suspension is legit. Just because he got it harsher than others doesn't change the fact that he broke the rules. If everyone on the highway is speeding and you are the only one who gets a ticket that isn't unjust that is just how it works out. IF he hadn't been stupid and bet on games he knew he wasn't supposed to bet on he would be playing. And don't tell me it shouldn't matter because it was girls basketball because how hard would it be for him to find out information about another team on campus? He is lucky he is only suspended...
Whether the NCAA is screwing things up (they most assuredly are) is a different issue. But him self reporting the crime and getting bent over a barrel is just how life works. Do you think if the U of M in 1999 knew that schools like UNC would just ignore the NCAA and run sham college departments and never deal with the consequences that the U might have chosen not to self flagellate to try and mitigate the damage? (which it did not) I guarantee Clem would have coached until he retired, the 1997 banner would still be up and Khalid El-Amin is a Gopher legend. The U did the "right" thing (after the fact of course) and the program has never recovered from it.
When I was a frosh (also in 1998-9...man that was a rough year) I got an 89 on a test but realized the score was off and I really should have got an 80. Back in HS when something like that happened the teacher always just let it go and gave the points. My professor said "thanks" and then lowered my grade. I never made that mistake again. In the real world doing the right thing usually leads to heartache not reward.
Sorry but he did not get the shaft.
Agree to disagree. The fact that he is the ONLY student athlete to receive a year long suspension out of this whole mess shows how much he got the shaft. Jermari Harris only received two games for gambling and will be making his season debut this weekend. It's just fricking idiotic how the NCAA handled this.

Mizzou kicker has a hell of a boot for a college kid.
Pathetic act of sportsmanship by Tennessee’s coach in the closing seconds which almost lead to a major royal rumble at the Swamp vs. Florida.

Saw the clip, re-watched the clip. If FLA, just take a knee or punt right away. That wasn't a dirty or malicious hit. It was barely a love tap.
When you tell somebody somethin', it depends on what part of the United States you're standin' in... as to just how dumb you are.
You might want to rewatch the play. The TO was unnecessary by TN. And the so called “love tap” was more unnecessary.
Keep your stick on the ice...
I re-watched it a couple times. The game was over, even if TN scored. FLA over-reacted.

Stupid play by TN, sure. Stupid play by FL too. The FL QB waited until that guy was less than a yard away from him to kneel. The DE was already lunging to hit him before the knee hit the ground. He was like a half a foot from contact before the knee touched (see attached image). If he didn't want to get hit he could have just kept moving backwards. Instead he moved right up into the oncoming rusher and then took as long as possible to kneel.
There was zero reason for him to lunge at the QB though - they had zero chance of winning the game and FL clearly wasn't trying to score on the play. FL somewhat overreacted to the hit, but I put that whole sequence 90/10 on TN. Stupid TO, stupid to rush for the QB, stupid to hit him period.

I don't disagree with the timeout being dumb but players are going to play to the whistle whether they're down by 13 or 3.
I am at a dive bar outside of Detroit watching the CO - CO St. Game while someone tries to sing closer by nine inch nails on karaoke night.
not something I ever envisioned I would do in ny life. ?
Haha how often are Colorado students going to storm the field after beating an unranked opponent?

It was very uncalled for. Just like when a team is in victory formation and some defensive linemen is trying to play tough guy. I totally agree to play to the whistle, but in the same breath there comes a time to admit your beat, hold up and let the clock run out.

Colorado State’s HC Jay Norvell calling out the stripes for too many personal fouls being called his team. He was lucky there wasn’t more. CSU was playing with an axe to grind and playing beyond cheap. They wanted to leave their marks by playing cheap. If they would’ve help off on some of the cheap plays, they probably would have won convincingly.

The hit on Dions son (the QB) in OT was way beyond dirty. Besides being ejected, that player should be suspended. Jay Norvell complaining about the penalty calls is a complete JOKE. Oregon up over Prime U, 35-0 at half — 378 yards total offense vs. 21. Former Gopher Bucky Irving with 68 rushing and 16 rushing yards while sharing the RB duties. CU totally out played and out coached. Be interesting if the Buff players play harder or give up.
Tonight's showing can't be good for Forenz Jr's weird 25 point dealio Iowa has set up.

I only went 3-2 vs. the spread this weekend, but I'm still 8-4 on the season. As soon as I start to creep towards .500 (which seems to happen every year) I'll shut it down.
