My hope is with the added cap space the Wild pick up this year, we won't see Nyquist in next year's playoff. The Wild actually played much better this year, when healthy, than I expected given the reduced cap. I've been looking forward to this off season for several years. Can wait to see what BG does with the money.
Hopefully he doesn't spend it resigning mediocre players.
he already spent most of it re-signing mediocre players. They will have room for 1 big name player, unless he gets rid of some of the dead weight this summer.
Will he be able to sign Kaprisov to the large contract Leipold promised AND bring in another big name player or one or the other?
kk and one player. That’s part of why we aren’t going to be able to bring in this massive influx of talent unless somehow you can find buyers for our more mediocre players and their inflated contracts
and you’ll want to resign kk this year. He only gets more expensive next year if he hits UFA

Yes
If they let Fleury, Merrill, Johansson, and Nyquist go to free agency and they re-sign Rossi, they will have roughly $10M to spend this summer. Probably can't spend all of that though because they have to pay Kaprizov and Gustavsson next summer and only have Zuccarello and Bogosian coming off the books

Kaprizov is either extended this summer or traded. Can't let him play a game next year without a new contract.
This currently shows 18.5 million in cap space for next season. It doesn't show Buium so that is a little less than one million on next year's salary cap.

agree with this 100% and preferably you get that done immediately and before free agency as you don't want him holding cards looking to see how much a contender you make the team and considering walking after next year.
would assume he'll be in the running to be the highest paid guy from an AAV standing with the cap increases and his talent. will be surprised if its anything less than 12.5mil and would guess he'll get at least as much as Draisaitl (14/yr). KKs agent may wait until after McDavid (or some of the other big free agents) signs which could get real interesting as I think the market is going to be some pretty high bids for guys with the cap jumping as much as it will
Since I know nothing about NHL contracts, here's a question: can the Wild offer more money than another team, or is that not even a thing with the NHL? If not, I can't imagine he wouldn't look elsewhere, for a franchise that has a track record of post-season success.

The max NHL contract for a player is 20% of the salary cap. The Wild are not able to offer more money than anyone else. I don't really have a feel for what Kaprizov will do, but I don't think the money will be what drives him in either direction. I believe his decision will come down to whether or not he wants to be here.
The Wild are able to offer a 8 year contract whereas other teams will only be able to go to 7 years if he decides to go to UFA. That point probably doesn't matter much to the Wild though. Either he signs his new deal this summer, or they figure out where to trade him.
I do wonder if Kaprizov tells them that he isn't interested in re-signing, if Leipold would even let Guerin be the one to trade him?

Interesting. Also an interesting choice for him as he’ll be 30 when this contract comes up. Does he go something shorter knowing the cap will go up and he can sign something really large for say his ages 33-40 season? I’d actually like him getting 7-8 now at a large deal and then as he dwindles at the back half you’re not stuck with a deal going into too much of his twilight in case he drops off

I can't see him signing anything but an 8 year deal. I do think that the injuries the last few years will have him more eager to sign before the start of next season, I'm just not positive that it will be with Minnesota.

If Billy G & Craig fail to sell KK on staying & don’t sign him long term, then Billy is out of a cushy job & Craig may as well sell the team, as his reputation will be soiled Badly, possibly irreparably in MN !
Not saying they’ll succeed, just that’s what’s on the line should they Fail.
You don’t like the let them shoot wide open from the slot strategy?
It’s literally counterintuitive
Yeah no idea who’s drawing up the strategy to shade the opposite forward away from the two touch pass one timer guy in favor of letting them have time and space to pick a shot in the middle through a screener. If that’s how we’re going to play the PK we need to take no more penalties tonight
My only problem with the call against Faber is they haven't been calling that all series long. KK gets mugged routinely and cant draw a call. Suddenly, it's a penalty when it happens to Eichel.
It’s weak but Just dumb from faber to put himself in that spot. It’s out at the blue line. No need to get the free hand on him or wrap at all. He’s not going to hurt you from there.
Rossi losing so many physical battles, Gaudreau hasn't had a sniff of offense, and the Eichel-Stone line that went missing for a couple of games is back.
The game started in the worst way and has been frustrating ever since.
Hartman has been the Wild's best player this series.
