A comment in the Athletic article mentions that last night was the big Minnesota Wild Gala. Something might have happened there. My spidey sense tells me that there is more to the story. Per Russo, O'Hearn recently signed a new deal and was on the latest roadtrip without Guerin. It is customary to at least to pretend to wish the "fired" employee the best for their service. We only got "The Wild will not comment further on this matter." hmmm...
It sure feels like a non job performance issue.

Yeah that timing feels like something went down last night.
Another holiday party victim? ?
Uh oh did he nail Bedard’s mom?

booze cruise on ice?
Per Russo today- two investigations led by outside council have taken place in recent weeks with the wild. All kinds of staff weee interviewed with second investigation starting dec 1. No indication ohearn was target.
ohearn was let go Tuesday. Guerin didn’t attend the holiday gala and hasn’t responded to messages.

Here are some quotes from Joe Smith's and Russo's Athletic article--

Wednesday’s departure of assistant GM Chris O’Hearn only adds to the feeling of chaos and panic, and not just because of the unanswered questions about the justification for his dismissal, which team sources tell The Athletic came on the heels of multiple investigations into Wild executives by an outside firm commissioned by the organization.
What we know about what led to this is this: In recent weeks, there have been two investigations into the Wild front office. Members of the team’s hockey support staff, hockey operations department and business staff began being interviewed regarding the second one by two attorneys Dec. 1 after the team returned from a road game in Nashville.
O’Hearn was not the subject of that latter investigation, and it’s unknown the specific nature of any allegations against him. It appears that the first investigation just happened to conclude at the same time the second one was being conducted.
What’s interesting is that O’Hearn was the front-office representative on the Wild’s latest four-game road trip, which ended Sunday in Seattle. He didn’t give the appearance that anything was amiss, being around the team in his normal jovial fashion and answering questions from reporters about the team likely needing to go into LTIR. Agents who have spoken to him in recent weeks said it was business as usual.

So is Guerin under investigation also? Hard to understand the whole thing.

that’s a great question, don’t think anyone knows yet. He sent his wife and two players in his place to the gala Tuesday. But he may have been working with comms to draft the press release about ohearn, or on urgent calls trying to replace ohearn.
but nothing would surprise me anymore
I hope they didn't pull a Glenn Taylor and the Wild lose the next 10 years of draft picks... ?

Oh goody, the front office matching the on ice performance.
And they’ve named the employee who filed the complaint
Well, that is classy. May not be a 10 year 700M payout, but I see said employee may have a pay day of their own?
It certainly is not standard procedure to name the accuser when these things are reported. Russo is a pretty good reporter, and this story had to be passed through the Athletic higher ups, so I'm guessing the accuser gave him permission to use his name. I still feel uneasy that he was named though.

I think that I would rather have my name out in the public in this situation. Eliminates the chance of Guerin pulling any shenanigans down the road.
I swear I just saw he's already been cleared on the verbal abuse probe.
I often think so little of people in general, that it's tough for me to use "amazing" or "unbelievable" in terms of how low they can go. That said, even I was taken aback at the number of comments I saw that used "soft" to describe the person who filed the complaint, Andrew Heydt it appears. Man, there are a lot of nasty f*ckin' people out there. ?
I don't think "cleared" is the word I would use. The Wild are not planning on firing Guerin at this time thoughI swear I just saw he's already been cleared on the verbal abuse probe.

Theres a certain generation that thinks everyone should just be happy to have a job no matter how crappy and should take any abuse that comes with it. Younger generations have decided they’ve had enough of that nonsense.
Some interesting stuff in here regarding the Guerin/O'Hearn situation:
1. Those "in the know around the NHL" were stunned that O'Hearn would have done something to cause termination during the season. Said he is super well respected.
2. Elliote had not heard that Guerin was officially cleared from this yet.
3. Elliote has heard players were not happy with Guerin, and were taking Heydt's side
He was cryptic, but seems to think the story isn't over at all.

I think O'Hearn hit them with a Guerin or me, and Leipold picked Guerin
Russo will be on KFAN at 5. Maybe he will provide new details.

Russo said on KFAN that the O'Hearn and Guerin investigations are 2 separate issues. Guerin did not want O'Hearn to go. The ownership felt O'Hearns offenses were fireable. Russo is still working on what O'Hearn did. He doesn't expect Heydt back. Russo said Heydt may not be happy with the resolution and has an attorney.

What the h$ll is going on over there?
Wild win in shootout 2-1
Aloha!
They have now won 3 straight and 7 of the last 9. In the seven wins they have given up a total of 8 goals. The biggest problem they have had this season is goaltending and that has been A LOT better.
Billy doesn’t need to berate anyone for a couple days at least.
The win today was over Vancouver who leads the NHL at +40 in goal differential. Vegas and LA Kings are tied for second +29.
Can the Wild give the Gophers some pointers?

Good Goaltending solves a lot of problems (or at least masks them).
I don't know if A LOT better even does it justice... haha.
Since 11/27 Filip Gustavsson is 6-1-0 with a .954 sv% and 1.26 GAA.
Prior to 11/27 he was 2-6-2 with a .881 sv% and 3.94 GAA. (MAF was 3-4-2 with a .875 sv% and 3.46 GAA)
That's going from AHL replacement level goaltending to "could set some NHL records if he keeps it up" level goaltending.
Rossi and Kirill have both played all 28 games. Rossi has 10 goals, Kirill has 8 goals just as everybody would have predicted. 😀
How much of the goalie resurgence is the actual play in net vs. the play by the other 5 guys on the ice in the defensive zone and heck even the neutral zone? And I haven't looked but I have to imagine the PK must be tracking way more positively than it had been previously.
How impactful has Faber been in this last few week change in the Wild?
I think most of this season can be pinned on the goaltending. They weren't the worst team in the league when they were getting blown out every night because the goalies couldn't stop anything. Just like they're not one of the better teams in the league right now, it just looks that way because Gustavsson has stopped everything. Breaking up Brodin and Spurgeon on the PK has also had a big impact. How much of the goalie resurgence is the actual play in net vs. the play by the other 5 guys on the ice in the defensive zone and heck even the neutral zone? IMO- Faber has been the teams best defenseman since opening night. How impactful has Faber been in this last few week change in the Wild?
I agree. Faber has been very impressive, he has played over 30 minutes in each of the past two games. The media has been in love with Bedard and basically anointed him the Calder winner on draft night and he is very talented, but for Faber to step and play as well as he has he deserves some serious rookie of the year consideration. He will not put up a ton of points, but his play is way beyond his age and experience.
Fluery in net tonight at Penguins where he won 3 Stanley cups

Interesting. I always assumed that the ridiculous over playing of Fleury was a Guerin thing.

it just seems odd that a goalie's SV% would so drastically improve without it being assisted to even a slight degree by the guys playing in front of him.
Not raising my expectations of this club or anything, but that game with the Bruins was a lot of fun to watch.

Both goalies were good tonight, but Fleury was insane. I think he made 15 stops on pucks that were labeled.
Middleton and Faber have had a nice run together.
Dolla was having fun tonight.
1 game under .500. Good move.

Crazy how the coach gets the boot and this turn around occur? But, can it last the rest of the season is the true unknown?
