To be fair everything Nylander touches seems to turn to gold this season. How fitting for the kid from Stockholm to get the OT winner. But bummer for the Wild to lose two in extra innings.

More of a reference to EE all alone in front. I mean ALL alone yet somehow he doesn’t get a high quality chance.

This team has had a number of finishes like this. OT is set up with one defenseman on the ice and when Johansson was forced to defend, the result wasn't surprising ?
Results aside, both Knies and Faber were outstanding today.
Wild run into another hot goalie... you know, future HOFer Alex Lyon (of Baudette, MN). Score 1 goal on 38 shots. Lose 4-1 to the Red Wings.
Lost 7 in a row. 0-5-2. IN the past 16 they are 3-9-4.
Special teams gave up another 2 PPGs.
Does Dean make it to XMas? Not that it will actually matter, not many other moves Billy G can make though... other than maybe extend a few of these "gritty" players. Who cares about scoring goals?!? Grit and Toughness!!! that's what the NHL is all about.
Looks like BSN is doing me a favor by making it so difficult to watch, because it would be pretty difficult to actually watch this.

Brodin on for all four. Spurgeon on for 3. Have two of the softest defensemen in the NHL running their PK, and they can't figure out why it isn't working.
The only reason that Evason still has a job is because Guerin is smart enough to know that the second he fires him, all the attention turns to him.
KK is definitely not earning his weight being tied for 61st overall in TP, while Zucc is tied overall at 29th but they have zero help. The team is 18th in the league for GPG and 26th for total points. Sadly they are 3rd worst for SV%. The Wild aren't HORRIBLE at 5x5 being 19th for goal differential (-2) but they're deal last on the PK at 66%. That is a 23% worse than the league leader. Unimaginable.
Evason needs to be fired and quite frankly Guerin should go with him.

When asked about Boldy in his post game conference, Deano didn't exactly give him the benefit of doubt.
This might be the low point in the team's history. They haven't done anything as a franchise, but it's not even December yet and their playoff hopes are disappearing. They might be done by Christmas, and the rink will be a mausoleum.
I think the league has figured out that if they stop KK and Zuc, they'll win 9 out 10 against the Wild. There just isn't much left after those guys.

And when a coach who has won exactly nothing in his career starts calling out players, it's time for that coach to go away.
Yet somehow the GM saw fit to extend Zuccarello (NMC), Foligno (NMC), and Hartman (NMC). Further limiting the options and future, of an already handcuffed team. Along with the Gaudreau longer term deal (M-NTC). All these NMC... sounds like a previous GM we had here...
The Zuccarello one I can live with, 2 years, at a discount, for a player who is still decent. The Foligno and Hartman ones make no sense to me. Gaudreau for 5 more years when he is already on the wrong size of the age curve... seems really dumb. He currently has ZERO points on the season (granted only playing in 9 games, and a $2.1M cap hit doesn't get you much in the NHL).
I was actually looking forward to being in a good place for a roster "reset" in 2 seasons. Instead we have Gaudreau, Foligno, and Hartman all locked up for an additional 2 seasons, Foligno and Gaudreau for even longer.
If this is all they are going to be next year, they better find another goalie and not bring Wallstedt up into this mess. You'll ruin any confidence he may have by expecting him to backstop this mess.
Boldy and Kirill both slumping hard, but they have zero help. And with those contracts, there isn't any on the way anytime soon.

Teflon Darby…is this the third firing he survived (so far)?

I am only half kidding when I say this... I am surprised they didn't go after Andrew Brunette.
Hynes is yet another coaching re-tread. He will likely get it turned around just enough to avoid getting a lottery pick, while also still barely missing the playoffs. AKA - the worst possible outcome.
EDIT: I honestly had NO idea that Brunette was the head coach in Nashville.
This smells like a tank job to me. John Hynes resume is pretty dull, not sure how well Guerin knows him but looks like he is throwing him a bone. This can't be the guy Guerin thinks is going to turn around the season.

I think that Guerin recently realized that he isn't bulletproof in this town, and this is a bit of a panic move. Turning to an old buddy from his Pittsburgh days is just SOP for him.
There's absolutely no reason Evason should have been brought back after last season, other than Guerin wanted to save that bullet for this season. Now the timeline for Guerin to prove that he is actually capable of doing his job has been expedited.
When you fire the HC & his top assistant (mid-season) you’re going to bring someone in from outside the organization. Deano clearly needed to go, and an argument can be made that back to back 100 point seasons followed by 1st round playoff losses (when U led in both series) should have got Dean fired at the end of last season…but Billy kept him on for cover while eating 15 million in salary cap buyouts. Hynes is from the Penguin tree, but so is Rick Tocchet and he’s doing a great job to date with Vancouver. Agree Billy is not bulletproof in this town and for the first time in his Wild tenure the spotlight has turned directly on him.

To me, it was Woods. Why you brought back Bob Woods after that special teams performance is beyond me. I could live with Evason knowing that there wasn't going to be much left to squeeze out of this roster.
I am worried that this move will cause them to win just enough games to avoid a lottery pick while also still missing the playoffs. And at this point I couldn't care less about the playoffs with this roster. This team is setup to get throttled in the first round if they even got there. Dumba was about the only playoff worthy Top-4 D-man they had, and its easy to shut down one or 2 guys when they have zero help and nobody else on the roster you need to worry about. We also don't have the goaltending to steal a game in the playoffs to make up for roster deficiencies.
The next two seasons were opportunities to see what you had in the pipeline and maybe even get a lottery pick now this year. Trying to squeeze in as an 8-seed (or 4-seed, whatever) is just stupid at this point.
For Hartman and Foligno, you could've easily for service-able NHL players for less money on shorter term to bridge the gap for 1-2 years. We could've had a significant roster reset. But now where in the same place this franchise has always been. A bunch of aging vets, on long-term over-priced contracts who aren't tradable. Fantastic, looking forward to more of the same from this mediocre franchise for the next several seasons.
No coaching change is going to fix anything with goaltending this putrid. Fleury has been horrid since he arrived and there was no way Gustavsson was going to duplicate a .931 like last year, goaltending is just way to fickle of a position especially for goalies just getting their start. And that is just one of a handful of issues.
Dean is fair game for critique. But this is a scenario to me where there is a long list of issues.
He compiled quite the record while here with a roster that was always in need of work. He is going to get another gig real soon, maybe even this year.
Guerin is on borrowed time, but I think Wild fans are stuck with mediocrity as long as Leipold is the owner. It’s clear Craig doesn’t have a realistic vision on how to build a sustainable title contending franchise.
Yeah I think leipold is the driver here. He’d rather claw for the last seed and get knocked out in 4 games than try for a lottery pick.
curious to see if they go forward with any proposed modifications to the x. I did the long survey where they asked what you’d be willing to buy. I know some people hated the club section being moved to lower level between the blue lines but that’s exactly what climate pledge is- I was shocked when I used my family’s season club tickets and found us lower level at center ice. I’m guessing this is what a lot of arenas are shifting to maybe?

What is this about moving the club section? My dad has season tickets club level - C18, and they've made no mention that he might be moved. Link?

it was a survey I was sent via email that had the new seating design and asked people what they’d be interested in. It moved club, added “loges” and other “gathering areas”
I should be clear- this was all hypothetical- as in, would this interest you IF it existed?
im not a season ticket holder and I got it, maybe season holders got it too? I noticed someone tweeted it at Russo a few days ago but he didn’t respond- it was a mockup of club being moved. Sorry I don’t have a link for you
but wouldn’t shock me if the billionaire owner wants to squeeze more out of people for tickets
Edit- found a link that confirms talks are happening
Fewer more expensive spaces is the way of the future. Easier to get a sellout, easier to increase revenue, easier to create sustained and guaranteed income streams.
It would have been hard to believe not that long ago, but for me the Wild are now solidly entrenched as the worst franchise in town. They seem to have no cogent direction and because of cap restrictions, would appear to have no way getting to such a place even if they had a logical plan. I agree with the idea that Leipold has a lot of the blame in this, not looking at the long game even if it means merely getting to the post-season, but not being a legitimate threat. There is nothing at all about the John Hynes hire that gives me any reason for excitement or hope. This team is going to be an also-ran for a long time.
Why should he? The Twins have given him the road map to keeping the fans around. Just good enough to make the playoffs but not good enough for people to think they have a realistic shot to go anywhere so they aren't too upset. Only difference is Leipold spends money and the Pohlad's are the friggin worst.
(this is in no way an endorsement of the Wild Franchise being this way)
The Twins did not do well for attendance in the regular season relative to their record - 19th overall. Which means several teams not in the playoffs did better.
Comparing Leipold and the Wild to the Pohlads and Twins is a really bad take
Why? It is not a compliment to him in any way (and they deserve zero compliments) and he is doing exactly what they do. The only difference is there is a salary cap in hockey and the Pohlad's make their own salary cap.

Right but the point is next year the team will likely be worse (or at best similar) and attendance will be about the same. As long as the team doesn't bottom out they know exactly how many fans to expect. If the team overperforms they will even likely beat projections.
