We are witnessing our generation's Babe Ruth/all time legend/someone to be talked about for ages:
Shohei Ohtani is the 3rd pitcher in Angels history to strike out 30 batters and allow 0 runs in a 3-start span, joining John Lackey and Nolan Ryan. 4 pitchers have had 30 K & 0 R in a 3-start span in the last 10 years: - Ohtani - Jacob deGrom - Chris Sale - Clayton Kershaw
And that's just his pitching...How I wish he could have come over to the MLB when he was just starting out (same with Ichiro, btw, aka the Hit Monster).
When you tell somebody somethin', it depends on what part of the United States you're standin' in... as to just how dumb you are.

Ohtani is only 27 (the age Ichiro made his MLB debut). He came to the majors/America at age 23. That's not an unheard of age for top rookies to make their debut (it's essentially the age most players from college will make their MLB debut).
He just got hurt in 2018 and couldn't pitch at all in 2019 and only made two appearances in 2020. He had 10 starts in 2018 and 2 in 2020.

Not sure how I feel about the gray all star unis. Gotta be rather toasty.
I see extremely gaudy chains/pendants have become a thing.

Maybe I missed it but I didn’t see any other topics focusing on the upcoming World Junior Championship which gets underway on August 9th. Looking forward to seeing Faber, Knies and Cooley display their skills!

FTJ suspended 80 games for juicing. The excuse this time? Ringworm medication. lol these guys are something.

It wouldn’t surprise me if a ringworm medication had a steroid in it. Lots of medications do. I used to get a ragweed allergy shot that was a steroid. That said, no one is paying me for my athletic prowess.

I don’t know why when I try to quote it makes it look like part of someone’s previous post This is what I wrote:
Glucocorticoid steroids would make ringworm worse (suppressing immune response = bugs grow more) so a topical ringworm would be unlikely to contain an anti-itch steroid Much less an anabolic variety….
so lame excuse.
There are medications/topical creams sold outside the USA (they have not been approved by the FDA) that include clostebol acetate.
Trofodermin, a cream sold over the counter in south and central America and in Europe, contains Clostebol acetate. It is used to treat skin abrasions and lesions. Clostebol has been popped on quite a few PED tests over the last couple years, especially in Olympians, and the growing belief is that Trofodermin (or other, similar products) are the cause. IIRC there was even a study/analysis done to see if this cream could pop a false positive on a drug test and the results found that these types of creams could generate positive PED tests.
Given where he grew up (and where I assume some of his friends and family still live) it isn't out of the realm of possibility he had ringworm or some other kind of rash and was sent Trofodermin, used it and got popped.
Honestly, if I were a pro player, ANY med that was recommended to me, just hand over to the league that they are in, and ask, "Is this ok?" Too much to risk, otherwise.

Pitcher Xzavion Curry makes his major league debut last night for the Guardians. Haven’t done the research, but I’m fairly comfortable saying he is the first Xzavion in MLB history.
Cleveland scored 6 runs in the 8th inning tonight after their first three batters struck out. The third batter reached 1st base on a wild pitch. Then a single, a jamshot ground rule double that bounced out of play after landing a foot inside the foul line in right field scored one, an infield single tied the game, then a 140 foot endcap spinner fell in front of the left fielder and spun to the corner for a double to score two more. Wild change of events.
These overlays usually split, right? Or is it just me?! WTF

How can the Yankees who earlier this year be so good now be one of the worst teams in MLB?
Aloha!
How can the Yankees who earlier this year be so good now be one of the worst teams in MLB?
Bear with me here...
In FFL, some teams built their roster with super top talent, only to falter later in the season. Start off hot, then due to injury, teams resting players, etc, falter come playoff time. Some teams built their roster with a bunch of backups, mixed in with star players...hovered just outside of the playoff bubble until the last 4-5 games of the season, then surged, as the backups started getting more time, due to injury and teams resting players.
Yankees are just burning out. LAD, on the other hand, were on an even keel (relatively), then at the trade deadline, BOOM. They weren't going for a full season domination. They were going for the latter-half-of-the-season full-on bull-rush. They just had to remain in the hunt until that point, which they did.

Major changes for next season approved
Aloha!
Could someone explain to me how banning defensive shifts is going to speed up ballgames? It would seem to me that defensive shifts lead to more outs, which, in turn, lead to shorter innings. IMO, this is just a ploy by owners to increase offense/scoring in an attempt to win back fans.

I suppose in theory if guys can't shift (or look at their little notecards telling them where to play, etc) there is less time between pitches for them to get set etc.
I agree it is stupid to tie this into a "pace of play" rule.
The biggest problem, IMO, is the pitch clock enforcement. There have already been studies done for leagues that have enforced the pitch clock and the added stress on the elbow and shoulder has led to an increase in pitcher fatigue, which is the #1 predictor for pitching injuries. Enforcing a quick pitch clock is going to increase fatigue in the forearm and elbow, and potentially the shoulder. Increased fatigue in these locations is going to lead to injuries (and more pitching changes to attempt to avoid injuring pitchers).
The positive side is that most studies published have found that the 20 second clock saw a significant decrease in fatigue as compared to a 12 and 15 seconds clock. So hopefully that bears true in the future.
Just be prepared for every pitcher that gets hurt to blame the pitch clock 😉
It's no shock that the players on the committee voted unanimously against the changes and the owners on the "competition committee" voted for them.
