Pohlad Pocket Protectors (see above) only want to find a way to blindly justify every reason for continuing to believe in this team. 18 million a year for Berrios is a move the Twins needed to make....every other team in the league would resign a pitcher like Berrios for this amount that came out of their system. Not the Twins and I’m done following this team. They will never win another WS, much less get there as long as the current ownership is dragging them down. I have better things to do with my time.

So you wouldn’t take Berrios for 18 million a year? The Pohlads don’t care enough about Twins fans to actually pay up to give the team a chance to win

In a vacuum the numbers don't bother me. But we were clear sellers last season and we got a good haul for him.

One of the better things you are doing with your time is spending time posting about the better things you have to do with your time on a thread about the team you have no time for.

Well it’s not baseball season, Sinclair has made sure I can’t watch the Wild and I’m stuck watching NBA so my attention is scattered.

Most people aren’t dumb enough to think Mike McCarthy is a good coach despite all evidence pointing to the contrary and you’re still butthurt about it. Guy was a bottom five NFL coach holding back a WB who put up an MVP season not long after and got to two straight NFCCG as the offense improved significantly because they weren’t calling the same basic ass plays over and over again.

But whatever, yeah I used to post a lot on this site in years past, who gives a shit? It has nothing to do with the MLB and nobody besides you seems to care about anyone else’s post count.

That's the point of contention. They NEED to pay someone like Berrios that kind of money if they ever hope to compete int he post-season.

You claimed people have a faulty "playoff memory" of Berrios yet someone else noted he pitched a combined 9 innings giving up 2 earned runs, 6 hits with 10 strike outs. Nothing to sneeze at even if a small sample size.

Regardless I will never again go to a game at Target when in town until they commit to trying to win.

Yeah, “they weren’t gonna keep him anyhow”, in a non-salary capped league is a perfectly valid reason to be pissed at the Pohlads. Especially when this is a team that doesn’t exactly seem competent historically in terms of rebuilds.

My memory was including the 2017 wild card game, my bad. Even so, how did the comment equate to me liking the Pohlads? I agree they aren't doing what it takes, but the Berrios situation isn't great evidence for it in my opinion. I have a very difficult time believing that any team in a selling position doesn't take what Toronto threw at them last year.

i never said "you liked the Pohlads" but your commentary does seem to excuse their lack of building a winning roster of pitchers. They should not have been in a selling position this often is the point, and when they are even in a "buying position" they don't.

Verlander signs back with Houston. Essentially a 2 year $50 million deal (officially only 1 year $25mil but with a 1 yr player option for another $25mil).

Tigers and SS Javy Baez agree to a 6 year $140million deal.

Lots of deals flying the last 36 hours and probably a lot more over the next 36ish, before the CBA ends (December 1st at 11:59pm EST) and lockout begins.

If Seager got $32.5 over 10, and Correa is worth that or more, I think it makes sense for the Tigers to go with Baez instead. The big thing is that I think there was some hesitancy to go with a 10+-year contract after the Cabrera contract. Plus, they still have multiple holes to fill if they're going to compete and that gives them an extra $10 to go spend.

I would expect them to be out on Correa now. They've been grooming a young 2B to be their 2B of the future named Isaac Paredes, he's got about 200 at bats in the big leagues now at age 22. 4 of their top 10 prospects are 3B/SS types so moving Correa to 3B on a mega-deal would potentially block one of those guys in the future.

As Maize said, they'd be better off spending the money they didn't spend on Correa to add talent elsewhere.

Saw this on FB regarding the immortal Sandy Koufax. He WAS absolutely amazing. Key reason why the Dodgers defeated the Twins in the '65 World Series.

Quote:
Happy 86th birthday today – no, baby boomers, that is not a typo – to Sandy Koufax, who, during the final seasons of his career from 1962-66 puts together the best five-year run of success for any pitcher in baseball history.

In those five seasons, Koufax goes 111-34 with four no-hitters, 100 complete games and 33 shutouts, while leading the National League in ERA for each of those five years.

Five years after retiring, the Dodgers' left-hander becomes the youngest player ever elected to the Hall of Fame, picking up 344 of 396 votes cast.

MLB shuts down the Rays attempt to split their home games between St Pete and Montreal. Now they will wait to see if they can get a new stadium in the area or move. Lease expires in 2027.

The Tampa/Montreal shared franchise was probably a long shot to begin with, but if I'm MLB, I'd definitely be looking at the challenges the NHL has had with the Canadian government since Covid entered the scene. I'm sure they don't want that headache to deal with.

David Ortiz elected to HOF...could not be happier for him as he seems like a great dude.

Also saw A-Rod did not make the cut. Rumor has it his snub is directly related to horse :censored: headwear choices, among some possible other reasons.

Agreed. They ignore his steroid use but keep better players out because of theirs? Ridiculous.

The only evidence for Ortiz is that his name showed up as testing positive in a 2003 survey(before MLB started testing), that was supposed to be anonymous, but was leaked to the public. Ortiz' positive that got him on the list very well could have been a false positive, or it could have been because an over-the-counter supplement that he had every reason to believe was legal at the time.

Personally, I don't care either way. I would have let them all in. But there is enough nuance there for someone that wanted to a morality line that included Ortiz, but not some of the more blatant users, even if I doubt that moral code is what as driving their decision.

One of the quieter disappointments is that Joe Nathan only got 4.3%, just missing the 5% cutoff to stay on the ballot. Obviously not a first ballot type of guy, but with Billy Wagner trending towards getting in now that the steroid guys are off the ballot, there's a decent case for Nathan being the next best reliever after him, and he might have been able to build some support with more time.

Different era's have different standards. The 1970's Pittsburgh Steelers were roided up beyond belief but I don't see the NFL vacating their SB titles.
