My guess is he doesn’t want to do 8 years, and the amount isn’t as much of a concern.

that has to be the hope among Wild fans. But, that leads to the question of why you would offer the guy  a term that he isn't interested in?

they probably view it as an advantage to have him for that time and the dollar amount will be slightly reduced at a lower term is my guess

There is no advantage to having a player signed until they are 38 years old, unless you are getting a significant break on the cost.

My hope is this is all part of the dance/process and this was offer #1 negotiations are ongoing.

The only thing I glean from this rumor is the Wild came in hot.  Seems like (so far) there is no indication of where in the process they are, where gap is, and how far apart they are.

I'm trying to figure out what Kaprizov's side thinks they stand to gain by leaking this info? Turning down the largest contract in the history of the sport isn't likely something that will turn public opinion in your favor.

Might just be that they know Guerin's job is tied directly to this deal, and any negative news likely adds pressure

Really good point.
Not quite as bad as our man Latrell worrying about feeding his family but close.

Which is what they must be presuming. KK has no incentive whatsoever to sign a deal unless you’re giving him a term length or dollar amount advantage to what he’s getting next year as a UFA. What are they gonna threaten him they’ll trade him for one down season playing against an also ran? Wild either have to take a “hit” on the years or the dollar amount somewhere

I’m not saying one way is smarter or not, but this is the disadvantage of setting the market right now as the cap is set to jump in a high tax state
