Vikes need to sign Cousins to new 2 year contract and cut the 3 backups that they have and draft 2 in the draft
Aloha!
I was just reading the top 10 free agents They have Kirk listed at asking for a contact

I don't see any reason why Minnesota would even consider that

That's for the best, inefficient ball carrying stats, fumbling at bad times, and zero rushing TDs last year.

4 year deal is kinda crazy. Best of luck to him I guess.
Vikings did agree to sign an edge rusher to replace Danielle Hunter in Jonathan Greenard, 27 year old edge from Houston (had 12.5 sacks and 15 TFL last season for Houston) and are reportedly negotiating with Saquon Barkley as well.

Yeah, that seems pretty steep.

It had nothing to do with "Purple tinted glasses" and everything to do with reports on Twitter that the Vikings had matched the Eagles contract offer for Barkley.
So Atlanta plays at the Vikes this season I see either a Falcon blow out or the Vikes destroy Cousins

Here is Kirk's contract breakdown.

4 years, $180 million for Kirko, $100 million guaranteed. That is wild.
Going to be interesting to see if the NFL investigates the Falcons for "tampering" with Kirk, as KOC had hinted at the combine. If they do and find the Falcons guilty I believe the Vikings would get a couple extra picks next year.
Can this guy throw the ball?

Coming off a major injury, good for Kirk to get it. I don't pretend to know (nor do I really care) anything about the cap impact but jebus that's steep.

With Cousins signing in Atlanta the draft just got A LOT more interesting for the Vikings and their fans.
The Bears have a QB and the overall #1 pick if the Vikings want to pick up the phone.
Vikings should have locked Cousin's up last season. I wouldn't match Atlanta either on that type of guarantee, but there's not really better options in free agency for more than a stop gap solution.
Vikings bringing Blake Cashman home with a 3 year deal.
I realize that a lot of Vikings fans wouldn't be excited nor do I know if the Vikings have any interest but Justin Fields is likely one of the better QB options available. Would the Bears be willing to trade him within the division?
I expect the Vikings to draft a QB in this year's draft but since we don't know if the guy they want will be available at #11 or if they will be able to trade up without having to give up more than they should in a trade so having somebody who has started in the NFL before is important.
You don't want to pick a QB in the first round just because you need a QB to start the season.

The Vikings tried to sign Cousins last off season but couldn't reach a deal. The Vikings had their price they were willing to pay but Cousins bet on himself and Atlanta paid him what he wanted.
With Russell Wilson going to Pittsburgh they may be willing to trade Kenny Pickett who was their starter last season before getting hurt. Mason Rudolph finished the season as their starter.

Why would anyone want Pickett

He was drafted in the 1st round (20th overall) two years ago. You likely can get him cheap, is 25 years old and could develop here, has started in the league recently, and might be better than anybody we currently have. I agree it isn't an exciting move but what QB is there available who is exciting?
Trading for him wouldn't change the desire that hopefully the Vikings end up with a QB they like in the 1st round of the draft but since we don't know if that will happen and somebody has to start the season at QB he might be a better option than starting a 3rd or 4th round pick.
The Vikings are definitely making moves to improve the DL and LB bringing in three new guys already in free agency.
Isn't Fields the kind of guy that an offensive guru would be looking for?
Trade for Fields and draft a QB and let them figure out who plays
I think that is a possibility if the Bears are willing to trade him within the division and aren't asking for too much for him.

I agree with this.

The Bears will demand a premium to deal Fields within the division as they should. Hard to know what that is as the 11th pick is too high, but they'll want more than just a 2nd round pick.
Whatever Fields would demand is still less than trying to get into the top 3 of the draft.
Fields is a career 60% passer, with 40 TDs and 30 INTs, about 170 passing yards per game and for a mobile QB was sacked more than 3x per game. No thanks.
It will be interesting to see what the Bears get for Fields.

Yet he's still a top 30 QB (i.e. starter capable) in the NFL. There just aren't 32 quality QBS in the league.
Everything that I have read says that the Bears would be lucky to get a 2ndI think that is a possibility if the Bears are willing to trade him within the division and aren't asking for too much for him.

Go after the franchise qb in the draft please!
If the Vikings give up more than a 2nd round pick for Justin Fields they should all be fired. Honestly trading anything for him should put them on the hot seat. Only worse move would be Sam Darnold who friggin stinks.
If those are your only options get your resumes ready because you have completely failed. Hell we would be better off just tanking the year and playing for next season. Would certainly be cheaper.
As for Cousins, that deal makes sense for Atlanta because they are going nowhere and expectations won't be high the next couple years. If we had given him that deal it would have been malpractice. Good for him and better for us.
If fields is worth whatever the bears are gonna demand they wouldn’t be trading him to begin with so just run away from it now and learn from Chicago’s mistake instead of letting them off the hook.

I really hope your post was intentional:
When you tell somebody somethin', it depends on what part of the United States you're standin' in... as to just how dumb you are.
Upon further reflection…Part of me is glad the whole Cousins saga is over. I don’t expect Vikings to be any good next season…but hopefully we draft/trade for our QB of the future. We weren’t going to a SB with KC irregardless…if we had re-signed him for more yrs
My gut says they'll move up to 5-6-7 and draft whichever QB remains between Maye/McCarthy/Daniels (assuming Williams goes #1). Washington almost certainly takes a QB and New England probably follows suit. Picks 4 and 5 have their QBs with Kyler and Herbert (technically 6 does too, with the Giants signing Daniel Jones to that huge extension last offseason). 8th pick just signed their guy too. 7 drafted Levis last season and he showed flashes of brilliance last season. The Bears have #9 and I don't see them drafting 2 QBs in the top 10, and the Jets have Rodgers. Gotta think the Vikings at 11 have the best trade package of anyone to move up to 5-6-7 range to get the QB if they like the one who falls out of the top 3.
I'd be very interested in Fields if the Bears were willing to trade him within the division and we could get him for a 3rd or 4th round pick. If that's the case the Bears GM better be damn sure Fields doesn't have what it takes and Williams does because if Fields turns into a franchise QB here and Williams busts out of the league in 3 years Poles will ever be a GM again.
I think that #11 Vikings, #12 Broncos and #13 Raiders are going to be three teams looking to get QB 4 after
#1 Chicago, #2 Washington, and #3 New England all take QBs
It's easy for us as fans to say the Vikings need to move up to get a QB but is it going to be worth it to give up a bunch to get QB #4?
Atlanta has pick #8 and chose to give Cousins 45 million per year rather than try to position themselves to get QB #4.
I'm not saying I would have given Cousins 45 million per year at 36 years old and coming off an Achilles Injury but Atlanta obviously preferred to go that route rather than being in the same situation the teams mentioned above are in now.
The draft is going to be a lot of fun no matter what happens.
I will be OK if the Vikings don't end up drafting a QB in the first round. Yes that is Plan A but I wouldn't give up too much to get QB #4.
Are we even convinced that QB #4 is worthy of a top 8 pick?
On the positive side regardless of who is playing QB for the Vikings next season they wouldn't have a ton of money tied up in the QB position.
They started spend some of that money today on improving the defense.
It will interesting how the Jefferson signing plays out now that Cousins is gone.
The Vikings don't have a 3rd round pick but have 2 picks in each of rounds 4-6.
2024 picks
- Round 1, #11 overall
- Round 2, #42 overall
- Round 4, #107 overall
- Round 4, #128 overall (acquired from Detroit in T.J. Hockenson trade)
- Round 5, #156 overall (acquired from Cleveland in Za’Darius Smith trade)
- Round 5, #166 overall (acquired from Kansas City in 2023 Draft weekend trade)
- Round 6, #176 overall (acquired from Carolina via Jacksonville in Ezra Cleveland trade)
- Round 6, #187 overall (acquired from Las Vegas via New England in Vederian Lowe trade)
- Round 7, #230 overall (acquired from Atlanta via Cleveland and Arizona in Josh Dobbs trade)
I think that #11 Vikings, #12 Broncos and #13 Raiders are going to be three teams looking to get QB 4 after
#1 Chicago, #2 Washington, and #3 New England all take QBs
Who are the top four projected QB's? Let's see if I've heard of them.

I agree. What have these quarterbacks done? What have they won? Who's saying these first round QB picks are bona fide long term NFL starters?
Vikes sign Darnold to a 1 year deal. To me, this hints they will draft a QB in the first round.

Aaron Jones release by the Packers and signed by the Vikings on a 1 year deal
I like that better than our running back last year. Jones is a solid back.

I’m not thrilled with darnold or jones. Table scraps again. Darnold will get bood off the field somewhere around week 4 and now we have a 10 million dollar backup holding a tablet but “mentally ready”. Jones is 29 and Greenbay moved on from him. He was hurt all the time last year, I get it it’s one year for theses guys but who are the Vikings trying to impress? Do they owe the season ticket holders these pick up moves? I predicted 5-12 last year. I’ll wait till the draft for this year but looking at what the rest of the division is doing and going to do the Vikings are looking up at everyone in the north.
