I think if Cousins took a massive, but not insulting, pay cut, he was coming back. Now, he still may come back because of this injury. 37YO QB who tore his Achilles? Those contract offers just got smaller in pay.
He turned 35 in August. I agree with your overall point.
He is just not the right guy...you don't rent a guy who is probably at best going to be good but not great with a lot of turnovers. You can find that elsewhere and give up nothing.
A trade needs to be for someone who if needed be can play next year too. Otherwise what is the point? Hasbeens are not worth it.
We have the right tools for a young qb...they obviously trust Hall a bit since they inexplicably had him throwing against GB instead of running clock. I just don't see what we have to lose. None of the named options make us a contender this year or next. If a better name comes around, someone who can still play and has tread on the tire still then I will think otherwise.
With the Lions rolling, and even IF MN sneaks into the playoffs, there's nothing happening there with the other good NFC teams in the mix. Keep your draft picks, keep what money you have left, ride it out with the QBs MN has. Make a decision on Kirk next year, all depends on financials.
When you tell somebody somethin', it depends on what part of the United States you're standin' in... as to just how dumb you are.
I originally expected Kwessi to draft a QB in the first 3 rounds in his 1st draft or at least his 2nd draft. When he didn't IMO that was telling on what he thought of Cousins. Using both the 2023 1st round pick (Addison) and the 2nd round pick (Hockenson via trade) on pass catchers IMO was an indication that he wanted to keep the QB and get him more/better weapons since Thielen and Cook were going to be gone. If he was looking to replace Cousins I think he doesn't trade the 2023 2nd round pick for Hockenson at mid season last year in order to keep all the draft capital to try to increase his chances of getting a QB he wants in the 2023 draft.
The other school of thought is that loading up your offense with high level weapons can make otherwise pedestrian QBs look much better than they are. A mediocre QB could put up some great numbers with JJ and Addison out wide.

For MN history, Daunte Culpepper was kinda like that. I mean, Randy Moss said it best, "Throw it up there, dog, I'll get it." And Daunte did.

Oh come on nobody works harder on hanging onto the ball. ? ?

Just say "NO!".
For the QB situation, sign a free agent or trade for a low cost rental for the remainder of the season. Beyond that, it would be a "no" from me. Will be interesting if they make any other moves to bolster the roster, beyond quarterback.

When push comes to shove that rarely works when the games get important. (yes I know it has but not often) QBs have to be the person in charge on the field and when you have a bunch of egos out there I dont trust some mid range guy to be able to see past the "hey JJ wants the ball I better get it to him!!" and make the smart play.
YMMV
Well, we have 4.5 hours until the trade deadline? We'll know soon enough.
What do people think of this as a possibility? I wouldn't give up much for him but he would likely be an upgrade to what we currently have. He is will be a free agent after the season.

On March 13, 2023, news broke that Winston was restructuring the final year of his contract to stay with the Saints. He'll be on a one-year/$4 million deal that includes incentives to get the deal to $8 million. This comes after Winston originally signed a two-year/$28 million deal with the franchise last year.
Funny seeing a tweet from that guy. I remember him trolling Aston Villa fans over Jack Grealish' transfer to Manchester City several years ago. It was determined he was a KFA (know-fuck-all)
Obviously you can't extrapolate the play here to the NFL especially with at little experience as has, but have the Vikings ever had a QB like this? No Teddy doesn't qualify. He could turn out to be a bust, but I'm more convinced now than yesterday that I don't think there's a move out there that makes sense unless they can completely fleece another team.

I'm 50% factual and 50% sarcastic. When you get to know me, you will know which is which.
I don't hate it. I mean they need a 3rd QB regardless of who they see as the starter after this week.
So Hall gets probably 2-4 weeks until Dobbs would be an option. 4 games left to the bye week.
Dobbs is just a quarterback place holder. The Vikings have pretty much thrown in the towel. Don't understand the Cleveland trade. They pretty much are committed to Cousins for a couple of more years. If they don't, they can say goodbye to Jefferson!!
Well, I think that's a good get for them. He's nothing extraordinary, but he seems solid and decent. They gave up a 2024 6th, got Dobbs and a conditional 2024 7th and then trade Ezra Cleveland to Jacksonville for a 2024 day 3 pick. Mission accomplished without damage, it would seem.
Josh Dobbs?
Keep your stick on the ice...
Careful now. "Who the hell is John F. Kennedy?" is pretty sacred ground. ? ? ?Josh Dobbs?

Dalton Risner usurped Cleveland's job and Cleveland is a FA after the season. May as well get some value out of him.
Did Dalton start the last two games? The saddest part of this whole equation is that the Jags dropped OT Ben Bartch the former Johnnie to make room for Cleveland..

I don’t know if a 6th rounder is “value” for a guy who started for a couple years.

Its more than the nothing they would get if/when he signed elsewhere in FA
Jaren Hall with a couple really nice plays early in the game but gets slammed to the turf on the 1 yard line trying to scramble for a TD and is being evaluated for a concussion.
Hopefully Josh Dobbs NASA brain can get ready to play in 3 minutes.
Hall into concussion protocol it seems. Dobbs era beginning shortly.
Leber confirms Hall out for the game
Hall has only himself to blame for putting himself into concussion prodigal, cutting back and turning sideways.. DUMBJaren Hall with a couple really nice plays early in the game but gets slammed to the turf on the 1 yard line trying to scramble for a TD and is being evaluated for a concussion.

just turned on the game to see dobbs and thought I had a stroke or something. Good lord. That basically cuts the playbook by like 75% right?
Tank mode baby! Play for a top 8 pick!
Dobbs is not an NFL level QB.
So the newest Viking new QB is their safety QB?

This Vikings season ended the second Kirks Achilles rolled up. If it was June, nobody would even bother watching the remaining games, just pathetic offense.
How bad is Atlanta? Feels like it should be at least 24-3.

According to the announcers their D is awesome and Heinicke is efficient and super skilled.
I would have gone for 2 cause who friggin cares.
The Vikings 4th string QB (Cousins, Mullins, and Hall all hurt) who has been with the team for 4 days leads a 12 play 73 yard TD drive without 2 of our 3 best WRs (Jefferson & KJ Osborn) and without star LT Darrishaw.
Didn't like the kneel but whatever.
Ugly game but being within 1 will work I guess.
Watching FOX half time and why the hell have they not retired Terry Bradshaw yet?
Watching my first game of the year.

I would guess the thinking is they don't want to risk Cam Akers being the QB in the second half on a hail mary. I didn't much like it either but seeing as we have 2 concussions already this game I can accept it 😉

I am not sure what defense Atlanta is playing but "Smart" is not in the name!
This game is hilariously bad but entertaining!
Atlanta challenges a play where the WR may not have had either foot down and loses.
What a terrible challenge from the Atlanta coach...and he had big screen replays showing the play before he made it. Even the receiver didn't look convinced he was in bounds.
It took way too long, but I finally identified why Akers looks weird to me out there. His knees are exposed.

That was an awful awful challenge
Dobbs with a great scramble for an 18 yard TD run!
Dobbs to Trishston Jackson for the 2 point conversion and we have a tie game.
Tie game.
How embarrassed should Atlanta be?

Dobbs now has a TD running, a TD passing, and a 2 point conversion passing. He certainly is not a really good QB but you got to give him credit for what he is doing today after being with the team for only 4 days and doing it with key offensive players missing (multiple WRs and LT).

He gets a ton of credit...but my lord the Atlanta coaches and players are just flailing out there. Bad calls, bad execution and bad decisions.
Dobbs play is not of a quality caliber and long term will lead to a lot of bad plays and losses but it's working this game so good job! It's not sustainable though.
Interesting call here. Heinecke's knee is down but Harrison punched the ball out without touching Heinecke at all.
The referees ruled the play is dead because he was "giving himself up" by diving head first (like a slide) so no fumble can be forced.
