Maeda leaves the game in the 6th after giving up a leadoff single and flicking his hand around like he had lost feeling in it.
So I guess I shouldn’t go to anymore games this year. ?♀️
Twins lose 1-0 as the reigning NL Cy Young winner gets a complete game shutout. Game was played in 1 hour 57 minutes.
1 hour 57 minutes… that’s awesome. I might be tuning into more baseball this season.

We took a lap around the stadium and got some food and beverages and missed a third of the game! I feel like I was cheated!
Less than 2 hour baseball? Hey, NCAAF, can you have a pitch clock, too!?
While 3.5+ hours is too long for a game, <2 hours is too short. You pay for an event and you can’t even get time to enjoy the experience.

Well, if Cy Young wasn't on the mound for Miami, the game may have gone a bit longer. ?
Miami wasn't much better at the plate.
It's not too often that a pitcher goes the distance anymore, especially in the early season. The guy was dialed in.
Apparently DH'ing 5 games in a row is too much to ask of Buxton. Twins put the "B" lineup out there yesterday and pretty much conceded it from the start.

What was the final score? ?
The thought is that Buxton would come in today against the left hander. That wasn't a b-team lineup out there. The story of the game was the guy on the mound who throws a 92 mph change up.

They're also trying to get everybody on the club innings early in the season. They don't want to have everyone come in ready to go out of spring training and then have them all sit on the bench for a week+ before seeing game action.
It just so happened to coincide with the best pitcher in the NL making his second start.
Another fantastic pitcher's duel in Miami today.
Lopez gave up a solo home run to Jorge Soler in the first inning. Larnach just broke up Luzardo's shutout in the 7th. Luzardo has wriggled his way out of a jam in the 6th but Larnach with a 2 out single in the 7th inning ties the game.
Well that escalated quickly.
(Not in a good way)

Jax gives up a couple hits, Thielbar comes in to try to wiggle out of the jam. Gets Arraez to strike out, but gives up an RBI single to center and then a three run HR to Soler.
Ouch.
Why does Houston have “OXY” on their jersey arm? I’m assuming it’s someone’s initials but jeepers that’s a bad look.

Thanks. I see it and think opioids.

Oh no. Baseball jerseys have been destroyed now too with ads? Sigh.

Big fan of the Twins jerseys today.
Now that I’ve seen them in action, I agree. They look great.
Buxton hit this ball hard
Frustrating that they had to get Duran going here.
Buxton hit this ball hard
That was crushed!
What should have been an easy ninth finally ends with a Twins win.

Duran is so nasty.
Very Joe Nathan-like. He liked the high heat, also.

Did he call him a “sh*tbum”? That’s a new one.

Crazy what happens when your starters are actual functional major leaguers.
Joey Gallo to the 10-day injured list, retro to April 8.
Lopez had bases loaded nobody out in the first inning and gave up a 2 run double.
He pitched 7.2 innings with nobody reaching base after that.
7.2 IP, 3 hits, 1 walk, 9 Ks.
With Gallo going to the IL, the Twins have called up one of their top prospects Edouard Julien.
Julien was an 18th round pick out of Auburn in 2019 and has done nothing but obliterate minor league pitching since. In 2021 (there was no minor league season in 2020) he had a .914 OPS between Low A and High A. Last season he moved to AA and improved that to .931. He then went to the Arizona Fall League and played 21 games there and had an insane 1.248 OPS (5 2Bs and 5 HRs). He also had 25 stolen bases between summer and fall league last year, with 34 stolen bases in 2021.
So far in 9 games this year his OPS was .969 in AAA. In spring training this spring he had 23 at bats, hit 3 HRs and had a .348/.375/.739 line for a 1.114 OPS.

Interesting - he is from Quebec City. Batted 0.266 in college and hit 27 HR in 2 seasons.

He is wearing #47 today just like former Twin and Canadian Corey Koskie.
Buxton and the White Sox 2B Lenyn Sosa had a nasty collision as Sosa ran into the baseline to field a ground ball. Buxton tried to jump around it but got clipped and flipped up over Sosa's back and landed hard on the dirt. He laid face down in the dirt for a few seconds before eventually walking off under his own power.

That came a couple innings after this (he exited the game with "A jaw injury" per the Twins)

The pitcher's reaction says it all, scary moment.

Good news on the Farmer front. Sounds like he avoided fractures.

The Twins just hung up 9 in the first inning @ Yankee Stadium.
They scored 11 runs in a 4 game series against them last season.

Julien hit his first career HR.

I don’t have Michael A Taylor absolutely raking on my Twingo card this is BS.
Twins scoring 3 seasons worth of runs tonight. Good to get the work done early.
That was 25 years of frustration taken out on a team in one night! Ya love to see it.

Saw on Twitter that Varland will start tomorrow as they are going to skip Maeda's spot in the rotation to give his arm more time to recover. Mahle's start pushed back a day.
