A players only meeting!! That oughta fix things!!
And yet they're still in 1st place.
And yet they're still in 1st place.
Which is nice and all (always celebrate a banner) but this isn't 1987 a .500 team ain't going to the WS.
The team needs is just missing something. They don't feel like a championship squad. They have a lot of the right pieces but but none of the glue that pulls it all together. They don't feel like a team that can compete with the "better" teams right now.
That isn't a budget issue. They are almost doubling the pay of The Rays and have 14 less wins.
At the pace that they are going. they won’t win 60 games this season!
Well, at least they scored 3 runs in the series, so not a total washout. ?
Atlanta is a hell of a good team that will be in it in October so losing to them down there doesn’t really come as a surprise. Would’ve been nice to take one game but to think they’d win that series against that offense, no way. Getting beat up at home against struggling teams though is hard to take.
Twins back at .500 after a 1-0 victory over Baltimore. Home run by Gallo and 7 innings/2 hits given up from Ober.

The catch by Kepler in the 9th was outstanding.

Duran with a rare bad outing. Came in with a 1 run lead, leaves after getting only 2 outs and 2 runs allowed and bases still loaded. Duran threw a ton of pitches (34). Pagan enters.... and strikes out the batter he faces. On to the 9th, Twins down 2-1.
The 3 Twins batters in the ninth all strike out. Lose 2-1.
I'm 50% factual and 50% sarcastic. When you get to know me, you will know which is which.
Twins take 2 of 3 @ Baltimore but lost Royce Lewis in game 2 to an oblique injury and put him on IL. Jose Miranda called back up and started at 3B today.

Translation….health wise Royce is currently on track to be the second coming of Byron Buxton. Twinkies just can’t catch a break.
Twins win 9-3 over the Royals. Maeda went 7, giving up 1 earned run, 3 hits with 9 k's.

Kepler's last 15 days have been really good.

Correa's bat is heating up (he got hit #1000 today). Buxton has been finding a lot of barrels and is finally getting some rewards (at one point he had exit velo over 97mph in 6 of 7 at-bats and only 1 hit) but he collected 3 hits today.

He looked good enough to go another inning, but with the lead and him still sorta fresh coming back from injury, I have no issue with him being pulled after 7.
When you tell somebody somethin', it depends on what part of the United States you're standin' in... as to just how dumb you are.
Lopez with a 12 K shutout. Nice.
The finally get decent team pitching but as of now they're 24th for BA, 23rd for OBP, 16th for SLG and 20th for OPS.
These guys simply can’t score against a team not named Royals.
Another pathetic weekend of baseball. Players only meaning did jack and squat.
Kind of a rough outing for Moran today.
Every day is a tough day for Moran! He has been very undependable the whole season! They don’t have a dependable left handed reliever or he be sent down!
Twins draft Walker Jenkins at #5. HS outfielder from North Carolina. Kid is an extremely well put-together athlete (6'3" 215lb). Can run, throw, and absolutely mash. Most people believe he was the #1 high school prospect in the draft.
He has super smooth power. Brief scouting report:
St Paul Saints win 20-4
should just move them up to majors and move Twinkies to minors
Aloha!

I was going to write that any high school draft pick is a huge unknown until they face major-league quality pitching, but this kid might hit for the team average if they brought him in. ?
When do people start calling for Rocco's head? If it looks like they could miss the playoffs competing in this lame division, I would think we'll start hearing whispers in August.

This kid already looks like a pro baseball player physically. My dad texted me last night asking when 18 year old baseball players started getting built like that.

Buxton strikes out looking with the bases loaded. At least he’s good in the fie… ?

Who is the third voice on the broadcast tonight? The one that isn’t Morneau.
How do you drop your bat right between your legs and trip yourself?
Why is Buxton playing every day? I don’t get it.

My guess is he'll get a couple days off soon. He has had some good at-bats the last few games but hasn't been rewarded for them with hits (he did draw a 12 pitch walk with bases loaded late in the Saturday game against Oakland) and had a 108mph line drive to the warning track into the wind for an out tonight. But with Wallner up I'd guess they'll have him DH a couple games shortly.
@beauner up by 4 in the 9th SEA trots out the end of their bullpen in Adcock. Twins get 2 on and a HR by Kepler to cut it to 1 but mixed in there was a 3 pitch SO by Buxton which I think was his second 3 pitch SO of the game. How is this sustainable? What are we losing without him? Get him healthy. I’m guessing he needs knee surgery and they are pushing it to the off season.

That reminded me a little of this from a few years back
How do you drop your bat right between your legs and trip yourself?
I could do that! ? ?
I have done it before at softball. It bounced weird when I dropped it and got caught in the corner of the batter's box and went right off the top of my back foot and when I went to stride it kicked into my left leg and tripped me. It was embarrassing as hell ?

I tend to agree WRT the knee surgery in the offseason. They've made no secret that his knee is keeping him from playing in the field.
As far as keeping him in the lineup, he's still a threat to hit the ball out every time he barrels one (off the bat last night I thought the ball he hit was gonna be half way up the batter's eye and then it got up into the wind and just died). But with the way he's struggling (I

But with the way he's struggling (I believe last night made him 1 for his last 29) they'd be better off getting him a couple days off to just work in the cage and get right. He's not missing by a lot but something is just a tiny bit off right now and maybe something can click with him if he gets a couple days off.
With Julien and Wallner up and capable of producing without a real great defensive spot (to call both of them defensive liabilities would be fair, IMO), it would make a lot of sense to let them take the DH spot for a few days.
Use Solano/Castro at 3B, Correa SS, Farmer 2B, Kiriloff 1B and Julien at DH for a couple games and then swap Julien to 2B and sit Farmer/Solano/Castro and let Wallner DH.
The rest of the offense seems to be waking up little by little - Correa's bat is heating up, Kepler has been pretty good for the last month, Solano continues to be a very steady bat, Kiriloff is hitting well. If they're going to insist on keeping Buxton in the lineup it would at least make sense to move him down to 6-7 in the lineup for a few games.
MLB replay system continues to be an absolute joke. Correa gets called out on the field on a tag. Replay on every single camera angle shows France didn't touch him. Twins challenge. Call stands.
I’ve been loving the timing of this west coast swing. We’re up at a resort near Motley and when the skeeter cloud descends upon us by the fire and pushes us inside, the games are just starting up. Even today’s game time is great, after lunch and done before dinner.

If you look closely at the Twins' schedule on the days of this road trip there are small asterisks indicating that the game times were selected for Karlsson's benefit. ?
How do I get this kind of treatment from them? ?
Jorge Polanco has only played 30 of the first 97 games.
Edouard Julien (2B for the Twins)
On Base % .394
Slugging % .574
OPS .968
Luis Arraez (2B for the Marlins)
On Base % .425
Slugging % .463
OPS .888
It's a good thing they traded Arraez so they could get a better second basemen. ?
Obviously the Twins could use Arraez's bat but if he wasn't traded he would have gotten a lot of the playing time at 2B (with Farmer/Solano) that became available due to Polanco being hurt.
Julien never would have gotten called up.
Polanco getting hurt and Arraez being traded forced the need to call up Julien which has worked out great.
